ANyway question is If I budget $600 per week for sports betting, amy I better off betting on one sport say football or spreading it in thirds to include football, hockey and basket ball
Thanks

First of all welcome to the RX and thank you for registering. I hope you enjoy our site as we have many experienced posters and a great deal of information available to you to use as you see fit.

Regarding your question, it really depends on your proficiency in each sport. Personally, I know that I am more proficient in football and basketball then baseball. I don't wager on hockey. If you feel stronger in one sport then the other, then you should consider having a larger bankroll in that sport then the other. If you feel you are equally proficient in all sports, then there is no need in splitting it into thirds. Just keep the entire bankroll as one. I hope that helps answer your question. Best of luck to you!

Thank you very much for the welcome and the info, I intend to use the site as much as I can. Right now i'm using a handycapping service that offers handycappers for all the sports. I will use them while I'm learning how to pick myself so having said that with a handycapping service would you stick with one sport or spread your bankroll to more than one

First off, let me state that you need to be careful when using a sports service. There are a lot of scam artists in that industry. I would highly recommend that you not plan on using a $600 weekly bankroll if you are following a service. Play the same amount on each game and make it small until you see how the service is performing. You can get hurt really badly with a bankroll of $600 per week. Let them prove to you that they can win before playing large amounts on each game. And I would treat all sports exactly the same. Keep the bankroll as one. Do not split it up. At this point, you have no idea if the sports service will be successful or not.

You mean you think they would lie to me?? LOL I'm sure you never heard this before, they say theiy're the number one service in Vegas. Thank you very much for the great advice. I have been using them for smaller bets while I'm getting into the sports side of things I was thinking of using the same philosophy I use when staking poker players a little bankroll spead around a number of players. that's why I was wondering one sport or more. Again thanks and I'll stay on top of them

Hi Ted,
You have a really great site. I am new to this whole betting thing and know very little. I was listening to my local sports radio station KLAC and I hear these betting agencies wanting people to use their services. I am interested in trying, but I researched one of the names Gary Sanders and read all types of negative things about that group in many post on the site. With this being said, how does a person start? Where do I place the bets how do you pick a company? I want to start with $500 and have fun. I am willing to only bet one game a week, a few or even none. I don't have a need to be betting all the time. One other thing that might help me is I don't have any favorite teams. I just like certain players and one of them retired. Any advice you could give to get me in the right direction would be great. I read your off Mon and Tues so I will wait for your reply. Thanks again.

First of all, let me welcome you to the RX and thank you for deciding to register and become a member. As to your questions, let's go through them one at a time.

What you heard on the radio is an advertisement for a sports service, commonly referred to as a "tout". The sports service industry is filled with scammers that lie about their record and all they want is your money. By and large they are not professional gamblers and have no more information then true honest handicappers. Sometimes, they give out both sides of games so that some customers get the win while others get the loss. That way they make half their customers happy and collect from all customers. There are a few honest services in the industry but please stay very, very far away from these services as you will only lose your money. Quite frankly, you can find much better and honest handicappers right here at the RX in the various Sports Forums.

Now, as how to get started on where to bet. There are many, many Offshore Sportsbooks available that you can send your $500 by various means and then be set to wager. At the top of this page, you will see a list of our featured sponsors. We back all our sponsors and if you ever were to have a problem, it is our job to help you as we have direct communication with the top management of each sportsbook. That is one of the perks of being a registered member of the RX. When asked, I always recommend our highest rated books with an A+ rating. They are safe, secure and you will be paid if you are successful and request a withdrawl. Since you are just beginning, I highly recommend registering at 5Dimes. Most of our members have accounts with them and are very satisfied. There is rarely a problem with them and they have many methods to deposit and withdraw funds. They also have a large betting menu to choose the type of play you would like to wager. In order to sign up at 5Dimes, simply click on the red link in this writing or the link at the top of the page and you will be taken directly to the site. Look on the home page for "Join" or "Sign Up" and register by filling out the fields they provide. No money is required to sign up. If or when you decide to make a deposit, simply call their toll free number and discuss with their customer service representatives the various methods they offer for the amount you plan to send. They may offer you a bonus as a new customer or you could choose "reduced juice" instead. "Reduced juice" means instead of having to pay $110 to win $100 on a wager for example, you would only have to wager $105 to win $100. You don't need to wager that high. You can bet $5 if you want. This adds up over time in savings. If you choose a bonus, you will have to wager your initial deposit (including the deposit fees charged depending of the method used which will be added to your account thereby costing you nothing) plus the bonus a certain number of times before you can make a withdrawl. IMHO, it's better to take the reduced juice rather then the bonus but it's your choice.

This should get you started, but feel free to ask additional questions if this is not clear enough or you would like to discuss anything. Once again, welcome and best of luck.

Thank you for the in-depth reply, it was very helpful. Why do some poster show bets placed with 2 different places? I noticed like 3 bets with betonline and one with 5dimes? Does this make a big difference? Thanks,

Many players have more then one sportsbook account. The reason is because sometimes the line or spread is more favorable in one sportbook then the other and it is important to always try and get the best line or spread. It definitely makes a difference over time as sometimes you win a game by 1/2 point that you might otherwise tie or lose just by getting a better line. Personally, I have a number of accounts at a variety of sportsbooks, including 5Dimes and betonline.

For the future:

Follow these instructions and you can either create your own Custom Avatar or select one of our Pre-defined Generic Avatars:

On the toolbar above, click on the drop down menu, little white arrow, on the right side of Forum Actions, then click on Edit Profile, then under My Profile, click on Edit Avatar, then you may choose either to create as Custom Avatar or select one of the Pre-defined Generic Avatars. Once you have completed your avatar, click on Save Changes and new avatar will show under your username.

OMT,
I always use a local but decided to sign up online today. They asked me to western union money to a man in Nicaragua then copy front and back of bank card and drivers license. Is this fairly standard?

Sending Western Union to Nicaragua is a fairly common practice. Many other countries are used by the books as well. It sounds like you are using your credit card or debit card to make the transaction. If so then providing a copy of the card plus the driver's license is also very common. If you were to use cash and go to a Western Union agent, you would only need to provide you driver's license to the agent for identification depending on the amount you are trying to send. If you have additional questions on this matter, feel free ask me. I am very familiar with the use of Western Union as it is one of my preferred methods of making a deposit.
