omt,

Im a new member and but I haven't followed sports for awhile(12+yrs). I use to love watching various sports(NFL, NBA) with my friends, it was really exciting times. you know, getting together with the boys, drinking a few beers.

When you have a few kids your priorities are rearranged.

I have always had an open mind when it comes to making money. I never thought of making money betting on sports though.

Anyway, my friend and I were talking the other day and he told about a sports bettting system promising a great win ratio so I checked it out.

Is this for real?

Im just risking 3% of my money. looks like a money maker to, you should check it out too.

have you heard of sport betting champ, sports betting system?
I would love to hear your comment on my discovery.

First of all, welcome to the RX. To answer your question, I have not heard of the system. My main comment would be just to be careful. As for me, I have been in this business for 38 years. I am fundamental handicapper. It is how I handicap.

omt,

I am brand new at betting on sports, and was wondering what would be the best/most effective way of educating myself on the subject. Besides reading this forum are there any books you would recommend, or any basic handicapping strategies, or principles that I should know about? Also, just out of curiousity, do you bet on mixed martial arts(MMA)?

Welcome to the RX. As to your question, there are many, many books on sports wagering that vary from sport specific to general overall strategy. Rather then try and pick one for you, I would rather refer you to the largest single bookshop on gambling that is located anywhere and that is in Las Vegas. I have been there personally many, many times over the years and purchased volumes of literature. The owner's name is Howard Schwartz and the bookstore has been there for decades. It has a toll free number and a free catalog. The link is listed below. As to your other question, the answer is "no", I do not bet on MMA. The reason is I simply don't keep up with the fighters enough to make an informed wager.

New here, off to a good start with a 2-1 day yesterday. I've been looking around on betting types and wanted your opinion on parlays. To me it seems as it can be a hit-or-miss thing as opposed as straight wagers. Is it reasonable to lay down some money on parlays when its based on one game (such as point spread and over/under) or just stay with straight wagers for the time being?

Thanks in advance.

First of all, welcome to the RX. As to your question, you will find that I am not a strong proponent of parlay wagering. It is tough enough to correctly handicap games slightly more then 50% of the time, so when you are combining two, your odds of winning are even more difficult. While it is true that at times you may have a good feel of a particular game and could combine the side with the total in a parlay, you are still making it more difficult on yourself to be successful "long term". I would recommend staying with straight wagers. If you can successfully approach between 53% to 55% winners consistently and properly manage the money level of your plays, you can be very successful. Best of luck.

Hi OMT,
Since this is my first time actually winning at online betting. I was wondering if i should withdraw the money via wire transfer? If so, is it safe? or should i go with check? If going by check, is it safe to deposit it directly into my bank account or cash it at Check N Go? Thanks!

It somewhat depends on the amount. If it is over 10K, then make withdrawls in smaller amounts. If you are speaking of a bank wire transfer, then, of course, there will be a record of the transaction. Obtaining a cashier's check is safe, but whether your bank will deposit it depends on the bank's policy. If you want the least amount of information, suggest a cashier's check and cash it at Check N Go.

OMT thanks for letting me join your forum.
I'm thinking of driving to Reno and placing a $1000 on Arizona. The drive is a big pain to me so I'm wondering if there is an establishment you trust. Easy to use, safe and all that. Plus I don't want to use my bank or cedit cards to make it happen!
Thanks

Welcome to the RX. I would recommend 5Dimes. Just click on the link above. You can deposit using Western Union and the funds would be in your account in about 30 minutes.

Ted, why did you take Iowa against MSU this week. Your thoughts, thanks Ted.

At this time of year I look for what I consider to be "live conference home underdogs". Iowa was coming off a road loss to a pretty good Penn State team where they actually led by 13 points only to lose the game late. With Michigan State coming in, I felt the Hawkeyes would slow the tempo down and keep the game close at home, so the +6 was attractive going in. Unfortunately, the Spartans jumped out to an 8-0 lead and held that distance throughout the game and the Hawkeyes could never get closer. With their 3 point shots not falling it made it even more difficult to catch up plus they were unable to control the tempo of the game. Those were my thoughts going in but obviously it didn't work. Hope the answers you question.

OMT,
What is a Pick 6? Last night during Super Bowl discussions, the term came up several times. Knew all the lingo involved except for term "Pick 6"

Also what exactly does +1/2 -1/2 really do in say a Hockey 1st period bet. If Boston and Philly are tied after one and I had Boston +1/2 would that win?

As to your first question, in football when the term "Pick 6" is used it means the defender intercepts the ball (i.e Picks it off) and returns it for a touchdown (i.e) 6 points.

As to the second, the +1/2 and -1/2 are the spread line. If you had Boston for the first period at +1/2 that means you are getting a half a goal to start, so if the period ends 1-1, you win because you have 1 & 1/2 goals while Philly only has the 1. The reverse is true for the -1/2 goal.

Ted, I've always wanted to know the answer to this question. I'm sure at some point in our lives we've all met and personally known women who for some odd reason talk out of the sides of their mouths. I'm talking about women like Tina Fey, Gretta Van Sustren, and the like. So what happened? Did they always talk like that or did they have a mini-stroke or something? I've asked many people this and nobody seems to know. What's the deal with side-talkers?

The day that men understand women will be the day hell freezes over. JMHO.

Subscribing to threads

I don't understand this - I want to subscribe to a thread so I get the replies on my cell phone when I am not near a computer.

The problem: Once one reply is sent, I get the message "There may be more replies, but you will not receive anymore until you visit the forum again".

That is the whole point! I can't visit the forum and that is why I subscribe...

Does anyone have a solution to this?
