McCain trying to hide from own record on illegal immigration
AP

Fox News reporter Jennifer Steinhauser recently spent a few days following Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) around Arizona, on his re-election campaign. Not surprisingly, the topic which voters continue to hound the Senator on is that of illegal immigration.

During a town hall meeting at a North Scottsdale library, a man named Richard Martin railed against McCain, saying: “We all know what happened after 9/11. Why didn’t you close this border down? Where were you, Senator?”

Steinhauser reports that over the three days she spent with the McCain campaign, the most commonly asked question was why he supported amnesty for illegal aliens.

McCain’s answer…“I never supported amnesty.”

WHAT?

As one of the keynote speakers at the 2004 conference, he told the zealous crowd: "It is in our national interest to bring the 8 to 12 million undocumented immigrants out of the shadows and allow them an opportunity to become citizens of this great nation."

Of course, McCain has not only supported amnesty, he wrote the Amnesty bill!

The 2007 McCain-Kennedy Comprehensive Immigration Reform Amnesty bill would have merely required illegal aliens to pay a $5,000 fee in order to stay here and gain legal residency. The fact is that McCain places the same value on American citizenship, at roughly the same cost as a 2003 Volkswagen.

Under McCain's bill, even members of Mexican drug gangs would have received amnesty by simply signing a statement in which they renounced their gang affiliation, the so-called 'background checks' that illegal aliens would have received were only of the 24-hour variety, which reveal very little (if anything), and they would have then been given a six-month worker card. Even violent members of MS-13 would be given legal status based on nothing but their promise to become upstanding citizens.

In 2008, Republican Presidential candidate John McCain told the crowd at annual National La Raza Conference: “I don’t want to fail again to achieve comprehensive immigration reform.”

Of course, “comprehensive immigration reform” is nothing more than code for amnesty for illegal aliens.

After the massive illegal alien protests in 2006, in which millions of law-breakers demanded their ‘rights’ and trampled upon American flags, McCain made the following statement: “If such demonstrations continue, I think we will have a bill for the President to sign soon. The more debate, the more demonstrations, the more likely we will prevail.”

John McCain has spent the last quarter-century in Washington D.C., and for many of those years, he has spent his time working on behalf of illegal aliens and the unscrupulous companies which hire them. He has also sat by and watched as thousands of Americans were murdered, raped, and robbed by those same illegal aliens.

It is only since J.D. Hayworth began gaining ground in his primary challenge to McCain, that the Senator started taking a supposed tough stance on border security.

Until he loses the Arizona Republican primary on August 24, McCain will continue to pretend that he is a tough conservative. However, as much as he would like to, he cannot hide from his own record on illegal immigration.

PHOENIX (CBS/AP) Police in the Arizona border city of Nogales are watching their backs and have been told to carry guns when they aren't at work after smugglers threatened to retaliate against two off-duty officers who stopped a vehicle carrying 400 pounds of marijuana.
Nogales Police Chief Jeff Kirkham said Tuesday that he considers the threat credible because various informants were able to identify the specific officers in the city of 20,000 who thwarted the drug load earlier this month.

"Are they credible? Yes," Kirkham said. "Are they going to carry through with those threats? I don't know."

Kirkham said the U.S. Border Patrol has sent additional agents to the area east of the city where the off-duty officers, who were riding horses, stopped the smugglers during the first week of June.

The smugglers left behind their vehicle and fled into Mexico, while the two armed officers guarded the vehicle and its drugs.

No one was injured in the bust, and there hasn't been any retaliation against officers.

Nogales police managers advised off-duty officers to carry their guns, avoid the part of the desert where the bust was made, and carry a cell phone or police radio to report retaliation attempts or anything suspicious.

The police chief said he believes this is the first threat made by smugglers on an officer in his city and that his city doesn't have the cartel murders that are seen in communities south of the border.

From: Roy Beck, President, NumbersUSA Date: Thursday 24JUN2010 Noon EDT WE NEED YOUR PHONE HELP NOW TO STOP DE FACTO AMNESTY THAT BY-PASSES CONGRESS

Thanks to all of you who have sent more than 200,000 faxes into Congress and the White House about this threat since Tuesday!

If you haven't sent all of your faxes yet, please go to your customized Action Board now.

TAKE ACTION: Congressional offices and the White House need to start having their phones ring off the hooks.

Click here for your PHONE ACTION NOTE that includes the phone numbers and names of your 3 Members of Congress -- and it has your easy talking points.

If you have never phoned before, take it from thousands who have gone before you and made their first NumbersUSA call that it really is pretty easy and non-threatening. Look at the talking points and then call. You should get off the phone quickly. You just want the staffers to mark you down as another citizen concerned about a de facto amnesty given by the Administration without a congressional vote.

UPDATE & BACKGROUND

Be sure to read the Fox News story that has a lot of quotes from Rosemary Jenks, Director of Government Relations for NumbersUSA.

And don't wait for emails from me to stay up to date on this developing story. Please come back to the NumbersUSA home page each day for our latest information on the battle to stop a backdoor bureaucratic de facto amnesty.

In my alert that broke the news of the de facto amnesty plot on Tuesday, I erred in implying that this amnesty might happen by an executive order by the President.

This amnesty could go in place just by federal bureaucrats taking an action that the President just lets happen. He would merely have to give his quiet consent to DHS Sec. Napolitano massively abusing one or both of two powers she already has:

1) parole authority

2) prosecutorial discretion to grant "deferred action".

These are intended to be used in individual cases, not as a blanket amnesty to cover millions. But we have received information from both Democratic and Republican offices that they have been told from people inside the Department of Homeland Security that "parole" and "deferred action" are being looked at as a way to get around the fact that Congress is not going to vote for an amnesty this year.

Below is what our staff tells me:

Parole

The Immigration and Nationality Act (section Section 212(d)(5)) says that the Secretary may "in his discretion parole into the United States temporarily under such conditions as he may prescribe only on a case-by-case basis for urgent humanitarian reasons or significant public benefit any alien applying for admission to the United States, but such parole of such alien shall not be regarded as an admission of the alien and when the purposes of such parole shall, in the opinion of the [Secretary>, have been served the alien shall forthwith return or be returned to the custody from wh ich he was paroled and thereafter his case shall continue to be dealt with in the same manner as that of any other applicant for admission to the United States."

Those granted parole--parolees--are entitled to work authorization by regulation (8 CFR 274a.12(c)(11)).

Deferred Action

This is a phrase that was made up as part of the Homeland Security Secretary's prosecutorial discretion (a standard law enforcement tool, so not laid out in law). It is described as follows by USCIS:

"Deferred action is an exercise of prosecutorial discretion not to pursue removal from the United States of a particular foreigner for a specific period.

"Deferred action is not intended to be a permanent remedy for this situation; rather it is a temporary discretionary solution. The grant of deferred action by USCIS does not confer or alter any immigration status. It does not affect any period of prior unlawful presence. The grant of deferred action does not convey or imply any waivers of inadmissibility that may exist, regardless of whether or not that inadmissibility is known to DHS at the time of the request for deferred action.

"Likewise, deferred action cannot be used to establish eligibility for any immigration benefit that requires maintenance of lawful status. Periods of time in deferred action do, however, qualify as periods of stay authorized by the Secretary for purposes of sections 212(a)(9)(B) and (C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act [INA>. Aliens with deferred action may apply for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) if they can establish an economic necessity for employment.

"Aliens granted deferred action are permitted to apply for work authorization by regulation, as well (8 CFR 274a.12(c)(14))."

Bottom Line

We should be petitioning both Obama and Napolitano to abandon any plans to usurp Congress' Constitutional authority over immigration by abusing the Secretary's restricted parole and prosecutorial discretion authority to accomplish an amnesty for illegal aliens.

As the President and the Democratic Leadership of Congress well know, they do not have sufficient votes in Congress to pass an amnesty because there is overwhelming opposition to amnesty among the American people--the voters.

Rather than abusing their authority to bypass Congressional (and public) opposition, the President and Secretary Napolitano should be doing the jobs they swore to do when they took office: faithfully execute the laws that have been duly passed by Congress.

Even though Parole or Deferred Action don't give permanent residency and permanent work permits, they create temporary situations that can mimic a full amnesty and make it much more unlikely that the government will ever expect these illegal aliens to leave in the future.

And even though there may be strong opportunity to overturn in federal court the massive use of Parole and Deferred Action, millions of illegal aliens very well might have free run of the country for the years it could take to get the court decision.

Much better to persuade Members of Congress now to tell the White House it doesn't want to see any of this come to pass.

THANKS FOR MAKING THE PHONE CALLS,

Augustin Cebada, Brown Berets; "Go back to Boston! Go back to Plymouth Rock, Pilgrims! Get out! We are the future. You are old and tired. Go on. We have beaten you. Leave like beaten rats. You old white people. It is your duty to die ... Through love of having children, we are going to take over.

Professor Jose Angel Gutierrez, University of Texas and La Raza; "We have an aging white America. They are not making babies. They are dying. The explosion is in our population ... I love it.."

Professor Fernando Guerra, Loyola Marymount University; "We need to avoid a white backlash by using codes understood by Latinos ..."

This an excerpt from a statement by Augustin Cebada of the Brown Berets de Aztlán, a paramilitary offshoot of the Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán (MEChA), delivered during a Fourth of July rally held outside the Federal Building in Westwood, California, in 1996:
”We're here in Westwood, this is the fourth time we've been here in the last two months, to show white Anglo-Saxon Protestant L.A., the few of you who remain, that we are the majority, and we claim this land as ours, it's always been ours, and we're still here, and uh, none of this talk about deporting. If anybody's going to be deported it's going to be you.”

"Chicano is our identity; it defines who we are as people. It rejects the notion that we...should assimilate into the Anglo-American melting pot...Aztlan was the legendary homeland of the Aztecas ... It became synonymous with the vast territories of the Southwest, brutally stolen from a Mexican people marginalized and betrayed by the hostile custodians of the Manifest Destiny." (Statement on University of Oregon MEChA Website, Jan. 3, 2006)
"In the spirit of a new people that is conscious not only of its proud historical heritage but also of the brutal gringo invasion of our territories, we, the Chicano inhabitants and civilizers of the northern land of Aztlan from whence came our forefathers, reclaiming the land of their birth and consecrating the determination of our people of the sun, declare that the call of our blood is our power, our responsibility, and our inevitable destiny. ... Aztlan belongs to those who plant the seeds, water the fields, and gather the crops and not to the foreign Europeans. ... We are a bronze people with a bronze culture. Before the world, before all of North America, before all our brothers in the bronze continent, we are a nation, we are a union of free pueblos, we are Aztlan. For La Raza todo. Fuera de La Raza nada."

Wonder if they'll pull something in Lame duck session of Congress like Rosemary Jenks said @ Phoenix Rally?

Stand With Arizona (and Against Illegal Immigration) Why not just outsource all of ICE to La Raza? This Administration continues to make a mockery of the rule of law. Will I tell you to blast-fax the White House? Nope. They don't give a rat's ass what you think. Just REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER. Tell everyone you know to read the insanity on this page, and then get to the polls and throw out every single pro-"comprehensive reform" creep put of office. The ONLY thing that will stop this gang is a Congress that will cut off their funds. This page in August will provide you with the immigration record of every Rep. to help you identify them. Lead Story

The U.S. Department of Illegal Alien Labor

By Michelle Malkin • June 25, 2010 08:49 AM
CofC-cards_solis-front.jpg

My syndicated column today takes aim at open-borders Labor Secretary Hilda Solis. She’s already a familiar character to those of you who read Culture of Corruption (and here’s a reminder of the roll call vote on her Senate confirmation.)

President Obama’s Labor Secretary Hilda Solis is supposed to represent American workers. What you need to know is that this longtime open-borders sympathizer has always had a rather radical definition of “American.” At a Latino voter registration project conference in Los Angeles many years ago, Solis asserted to thunderous applause, “We are all Americans, whether you are legalized or not.”
That’s right. The woman in charge of enforcing our employment laws doesn’t give a hoot about our immigration laws — or about the fundamental distinction between those who followed the rules in pursuit of the American dream and those who didn’t.
While in Congress, she opposed strengthening the border fence, supported expansion of illegal alien benefits (including driver’s licenses and in-state tuition discounts), embraced sanctuary cities that refused to cooperate with federal homeland security officials to enforce immigration laws, and aggressively championed a mass amnesty. Solis was steeped in the pro-illegal alien worker organizing movement in Southern California and was buoyed by amnesty-supporting Big Labor groups led by the Service Employees International Union (see also Trevor Loudon’s profile of her radical far-left ties). She has now caused a Capitol Hill firestorm over her new taxpayer-funded advertising and outreach campaign to illegal aliens regarding fair wages:
“I’m here to tell you that your president, your secretary of labor and this department will not allow anyone to be denied his or her rightful pay — especially when so many in our nation are working long, hard and often dangerous hours,” Solis says in the video pitch. “We can help, and we will help. If you work in this country, you are protected by our laws. And you can count on the U.S. Department of Labor to see to it that those protections work for you.”
To be sure, no one should be scammed out of “fair wages.” Employers that hire and exploit illegal immigrant workers deserve full sanctions and punishment. But it’s the timing, tone-deafness and underlying blanket amnesty agenda of Solis’ illegal alien outreach that has so many American workers and their representatives on Capitol Hill rightly upset.
With double-digit unemployment and a growing nationwide revolt over Washington’s border security failures, why has Solis chosen now to hire 250 new government field investigators to bolster her illegal alien workers’ rights campaign? (Hint: Leftists unhappy with Obama’s lack of progress on “comprehensive immigration reform” need appeasing. This is a quick bone to distract them.)
Unfortunately, the federal government is not alone in lavishing attention and resources on workers who shouldn’t be here in the first place. As of 2008, California, Florida, Nevada, New York, Texas and Utah all expressly included illegal aliens in their state workers’ compensation plans — and more than a dozen other states implicitly cover them.
Solis’ public service announcement comes on the heels of little-noticed but far more troubling comments encouraging illegal alien workers in the Gulf Coast. Earlier this month, in the aftermath of the BP oil spill, according to Spanish language publication El Diario La Prensa, Solis signaled that her department was going out of its way to shield illegal immigrant laborers involved in cleanup efforts. “My purpose is to assist the workers with respect to safety and protection,” she said. “We’re protecting all workers regardless of migration status because that’s the federal law.” She told reporters that her department was in talks with local Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials who had visited coastal worksites to try to verify that workers were legal.
No word yet on whether she gave ICE her “we are all Americans, whether you are legalized or not” lecture. But it’s a safe bet.

Right on. Glad she is sticking to her guns. It really pisses Obama off, she is Republican and a woman, I love it.
Im guessing those signs will become target practice for drug & human smuggling invaders..Jan Brewer is sticking to her guns just fine trying to save her State & the rest of the Country from being taken over by Mexico & LaRaza but what good is that with no ammo?

At least she is standing up to Obama who thumbed his nose at her keeping the law suit quiet when they met. How disingenuous was that but typical Obama, no class at all. Those signs are 80 miles from the border and 30 miles from the Arizona St. Cap, are you kidding me. Maybe we should start an ammo fund.
