The Arizona Fever

Yesterday, the respected Pew Research Center released a new poll showing Americans are backing Arizona's recently passed immigration enforcement bill, SB 1070, by huge margins.
According to the poll, 73% of Americans agree with "requiring people to produce documents verifying their legal status if police ask for them.”
When the Pew Poll respondents were asked if the police should be able to "detain anyone unable to verify legal status," 67% said yes. The real encouraging sign here, though, is that Democrats, Republicans, and Independents all agreed that police should be able to detain those unable to verify their immigration status.
The Pew poll is just the latest sign of a fast-spreading Arizona fever! In fact, virtually all polls show that Americans are rallying behind Arizona's approach.
This is fascinating: According to a new Gallup Poll, the U.S. public is now more concerned about immigration than subjects like "terrorism," the "national debt," and "national security."
Americans are desperate for relief, for any reasonable way to encourage illegal aliens to go home! Congress has failed to act. So now states are acting.
You probably have already heard that the open borders lobby (National Council of La Raza, the left-wing S.E.I.U., some major religious groups, etc.,) has gone hysterical over Arizona's SB 1070. They've made a cottage industry out of condemning Arizona and Arizonans as racists, xenophobes, backwards, bigots. You name it, and they've probably said it.
La Raza and even MoveOn.org (which has usually avoided immigration fights) are busy organizing boycotts of the whole state of Arizona. For example, they want Major League Baseball to move the upcoming All Star game from Phoenix -- something MLB Commissioner Bud Selig refuses to do.
Will these boycotts succeed, drying up the Arizona tourist business, and pressuring Arizona to buckle under? It’s hard to imagine this occurring, with the American people lining up behind Arizona. On the other hand, we're used to the elites controlling things. It could happen. The city councils of San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Austin, Texas, among others, have already joined in a boycott.
While individual city councils are boycotting the law, states are not. Indeed, other states are moving towards the Arizona model. Arizona-type laws are being considered in nine states so far. In Colorado, 55% of voters want their own. In Florida, it's 62%. These states DO NOT WANT ILLEGAL ALIENS.
Spreading Arizona-type laws to other states is the best chance we've had of actually reducing illegal immigration in many, many years. I've been told that a difference is already being felt in Arizona.
When all is said and done, the future seems to be getting brighter for unemployed Americans. The Arizona law will ultimately be found constitutional and Congress will either be forced to enforce our nation’s immigration laws or more states will follow Arizona’s lead and enforce these laws themselves. Those states that continue to maintain sanctuary policies will only see their illegal populations grow. Perhaps this would be a fitting punishment for those states that care more about illegal aliens than Americans and legal immigrants.

LaHood: Cross-border trucking announcement coming ‘soon’ 
<SCRIPT></SCRIPT>In the days leading up to Mexico President Felipe Calderón’s visit to the U.S., the administration made it increasingly clear that another cross-border trucking program with Mexico would be announced “soon.”
Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood told Sen. Patty Murray, D-WA, just that at the tail end of a Senate Appropriations subcommittee hearing on May 6.
“President Obama’s team has worked very hard to put a program together,” LaHood told Murray. “We will be announcing it very soon.”
He went on to say that “President Obama’s intention is to restart this program.”
LaHood explained to Murray that because the provision calling for a cross-border trucking program with Mexico is in the North American Free Trade Agreement, the program “needs to be restarted.”
That has remained a cornerstone argument from backers of a long-haul, cross-border trucking program. However, not everyone is sold on the “we have to” argument that the U.S. has no choice but to open the border to long-haul trucks from Mexico.
Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-OR, initiated a letter calling for the removal of the requirement from NAFTA. The letter gained significant bipartisan support with 77 lawmakers signing in support.
The letter, delivered to U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood and U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk in April, laid out the challenges facing the administration in launching another program.
Among the concerns are the security of the U.S., retaliatory tariffs and, most importantly, highway safety.
“We caution the administration that we firmly believe it would be difficult, if not impossible, to receive Congressional support for a cross-border trucking program that allows tens of thousands of Mexican trucks traveling across the lower 48 states,” the letter states.
The letter offers a “solution that has a greater likelihood of success.” That is to renegotiate NAFTA and eliminate the trucking requirement.
“This would remedy all the truck safety, homeland security and unemployment issues associated with this long-standing trade dispute,” the letter states.
The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association commended the efforts of DeFazio and the other lawmakers to put an end to the debate.
“Mexico’s regulatory standards and enforcement on trucks aren’t even remotely equivalent to what we have here. To open the border at this time is insanity from both an economic standpoint and safety,” said Todd Spencer, OOIDA executive vice president.
Spencer said DeFazio and the other lawmakers “should be applauded for this letter and their ongoing efforts to keep our highways safe and our nation secure.”
OOIDA Director of Government Affairs Rod Nofziger said the call to remove the NAFTA obligation remains a real alternative for members of Congress to consider if the Obama administration presses forward with a new program.
“It is imperative that lawmakers consider their obligation to any sort of program from all angles,” Nofziger said. “It’s absolutely urgent that truckers call their lawmakers and explain the serious ramifications that opening American roads to Mexico-based truckers will have on them and the entire U.S.
“Our lawmakers need to hear that simply throwing up their hands and opening the border is not an option.”

Nothing illuminates the bankruptcy of liberalism better than liberalism itself. The above quote was a composite of fan responses to Phoenix Sun owner Robert Sarver's idea that his team wear "Los Suns" jerseys to protest the new Arizona immigration law. Is there any doubt how Mr. Sarver would react if what he claims to believe in were directly applied to his interests? How about his players? How many of them would take a salary cut so that "undocumented attendees" whose "only crime" was a desire to see an NBA basketball game could attend one?
There is a reason the expression "limousine liberal" came into being. It aptly describes those who fervently believe in the theory of liberalism--as long as they remain largely immune from its practical application. It is the cabal of self-righteous souls who are positive that Arizonans are racist, xenophobic bigots--but would never stand for illegal aliens sneaking across their property in the middle of the night. It is the same people who encourage family-destroying, welfare dependency--as long as the socially dysfunctional stay in their own neighborhoods. It is those who support all manner of alternative energy--as long as it doesn't despoil their ocean view.

It is those who bemoan the deplorable condition of public schools--even as they send their own children to private ones. It is those who champion financial "reform"--because they already have their wealth, and they don't want any competition. It is those who applaud government-run health care--because they have lifetime access to the best hospitals and doctors in the world, and will never spend a minute in any emergency room rubbing elbows with the great unwashed. It is those who wax poetic about the innumerable shortcomings of the country--from the tenured safety of a college campus.
There are none so enlightened as those for whom "do as I say, not as I do" underlies the totality of their worldview. Unabashed hypocrisy is the foundation of modern-day liberalism. It is the ideology of people who consciences are completely assuaged by the idea of "throwing money" at every problem they encounter--as long as it's other people's money, and someone else is doing the heavy lifting.
How about it, Mr. Sarver? How about allowing free admission to one of your remaining playoff games? How about serving free refreshments? Certainly such a magnanimous gesture is doable. Perhaps you could persuade your players, concessionaires, parking lot attendants, etc., to take a one game pay cut as well--or you could simply pay them and take the hit personally. And since you're apparently comfortable with illegals remaining a permanent part of the Arizona landscape, perhaps the occasional "Free Game and Refreshment Night" could become an equally permanent part of the Phoenix Suns schedule.
And why stop there? Maybe it's time to start replacing some of our mainstream media personnel with undocumented workers. After all, who would be more effective blasting Arizonans and other Americans for their "racist" attitudes than those who have had personal experience with them? Who would make a more effective advocate for "comprehensive immigration reform" than someone who would directly benefit from it?
That is not to say working in the media is one of those jobs "Americans refuse to do," but why should illegals be limited to such work? If we're going to make millions of border-busters part of America, shouldn't some upper-echelon jobs be included in the mix? Isn't that what liberals mean when they talk about "fairness" or "social justice?" Doesn't "spreading the wealth around" apply to everyone? Shouldn't all neighborhoods, schools, hospitals, businesses, etc., experience the "richness of unassimilated multiculturalism" that liberals demand of Arizonans?
Shouldn't everyone walk a mile in someone else's shoes?
Talk is cheap. And no one makes it cheaper than the American left, for whom "feeling good" is all about them feeling good at someone else's expense. There isn't a scintilla of doubt in my mind what the reaction of most liberals would be if millions of stock brokers, journalists, celebrities, college professors, et al, were sneaking across the border and demanding that America "accommodate" their needs and desires.
The late Leona Helmsley once said that "only little people pay taxes." Liberalism has precisely the same price tag: only "little people" pay for the excesses of the self-anointed. Phoenix is the kidnap capital of the United States? I don't live there, but I'm sure Arizonans are racist. Arizona rancher Robert Krentz gets killed on his own property in an area officials already know is an illegal "smuggling corridor?" I didn't get killed and it's not my ranch, and Arizonans have no right to protect their lives and their property if it conflicts with my ideology.
Modern day liberalism is a cancer. It is fascism being sold as progressive thinking by elitists for whom all things counter-culture have become the traditional. It is a knee-jerk contempt for everything that makes this country the envy of the world. Only liberals could believe that importing millions of illegal, low-skill, under-educated people "enriches" America. Only liberals could conclude that "celebrating our differences"--differences which precisely separate Third World nations from First World nations--are "no better or worse" than expecting immigrants to adopt our culture and our values.
Only liberals can lump illegal and legal immigrants into one philosophical package in order to brand those who make the crucial distinction between the two xenophobic bigots.
And only a contemptible media would be such a willing accomplice to such obvious mischaracterizations, misinformation and outright lying perpetrated by the American left. And that's by commission. Here's a statement by U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder speaking to the House Judiciary Committee that's been virtually ignored by the MSM:
"I have not had a chance to, I've glanced at it. I have not read it. .. I have not really, I have not been briefed yet. I've only made, made the comments that I've made on the basis of things that I've been able to glean by reading newspaper accounts, obviously, looking at television, talking to people who are on the review panel, on the review team that are looking at the law. "
To what was Holder referring? The Arizona immigration bill, which is all of ten pages long.
Think Holder's the only one? Of course not. Liberal outrage isn't about informed opinion. It's all about uninformed emotion whipped up by those with an agenda--including an Attorney General who ought to be thoroughly ashamed and embarrassed by his ineptitude and his bias, but most assuredly isn't. The Arizona law feels wrong? That's good enough for liberals.
We'll see how good liberals feel in November.

Last week Rep. Ted Poe (R-TX), poked a Texas-sized hole in
the push to stop Arizona's reasonable immigration law (SB 1070).
During a hearing with U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, who
has threatened legal action to block SB1070's enforcement,
Poe asked, "Have you read the Arizona law?"

Holder stammered, "I glanced at it."

Poe, a former prosecutor and judge then turned up the heat
on Holder, questioning his snap to judgment regarding the
constitutionality of the statute without having first read
the law. Poe then chided Holder by pointing out that the
16-page bill was much shorter than the healthcare bill --
which Holder claims to have read.

Jim, had Holder read the law, he would have concluded
that SB1070 simply states that violating federal immigration
law is now a state crime as well.

+ + Why the Left is attacking Arizona...

Without even reading the new law, Holder and the pro-amnesty
Left are on the attack. And their reasons are clear...

The Obama team and pro-amnesty advocates are trying
to label anyone who supports border security as
a racist, xenophobe or hate monger -- and then
use this platform to pass amnesty and rally
their base in November.

Never mind that 70 percent of Arizona residents support the
law, or the fact that as citizens we have a right to have
our borders secured. If the Left can succeed in framing the
border issue in hate and xenophobia, they will have created
the political justification they need to pass amnesty while
discrediting their political opponents in the upcoming election.

Specter was defeated in the Democratic primary by US Representative Joe Sestak, who is an amnesty supporter as well.

However, seeing some of the biggest illegal alien Amnesty supporters in the US Senate like Bennett and Specter fall is encouraging news for our political revolution! We can hope, pray, and work hard to make sure McCain will be joining them in the unemployed category soon!

It looks like the June 5 pro-SB1070 rally in Phoenix will be the main one, although rallies are scheduled there by different groups on May 29, June 5, and June 12.

I heard there will be an anti-SB1070 rally right across the street on the state legislature grounds from the pro-SB1070 rally in Wesley Bolin Memorial Park on June 5. I predict there will be a line of police between these two opposing groups. But what happens when the rallies are over is another question. It could get ugly.

Wish I could be there with everybody in Phoenix to defend the law......Best I can do right now is educate & rally up members for the various groups I post here...Thanks for giving us the dates & Locations....No doubt some Arizona residents will see this
