American Citizens have a RIGHT to be FREE of this YET ANOTHER POLITICALLY ORCHESTRATED ANARCHY. Illegal aliens are destroying America one city and town at a time. It wont be long before they come to a town near you. The closest city to where I live has been invaded for years and still is being invaded as I right this. The crime rate there is in the top 5 worst cities to live in. Shootings are a daily occurrence in broad daylight in front of many witnesses and yet the police can not get any one willing to testify as to what happened and what the suspect looked like. There are some sections in this city that the police will not even patrol because they fear for their lives. This city looks like a dump, trash is just thrown onto the ground in many places. The school district is always looking for teachers because of the violence in the schools. It probably is the only district in the nation that does not require every student to have a SS number. They used to require this and proof of immunization and after numerous audits were conducted because of the NCLB act found that close to half of the students were using the same SS number which turned out to be a real number that has been linked to identity theft. This poor person that the number actually belonged to went through h e l l until it was discovered what was going on.

All illegal aliens need to be rounded up and deported no matter the cost. It will cost the US tax payer a lot more in the long run to let these illegal aliens stay. The great number of them never pay taxes because the work under the table and will continue to do so even if they were made legal. Because when you make 5.00 under the table and live with 10 to 15 other people it is more then enough money to survive on and still be able to send over half of what they make back to their home country.

How many of the illegals would continue to work these minimum wages jobs that no American will do if they are granted amnesty? My guess is not a d a m one of them will. They will demand that they be paid higher wages because they can not live off of what they were making while they were an illegal. So now all of these jobs will be vacant and will require more illegal aliens to do these jobs that no American will do including the 20 million or so that just received amnesty. So the cycle begins again and in another 20 years we will be right back here debating this very same subject again.

I and many millions of Americans will not stand for it, it needs to stop now and every one of these illegal alien criminals needs to be deported back to where ever they came from

The first and foremost thing that needs to be done is SECURE THE BORDERS AGAINST ILLEGAL ENTRY.

The INS and the SS Administration need to be able to share their info and provide it to ICE. The SS administration already knows where thousands if not millions of these people work. This information needs to be sent to ICE for use in Enforcement actions against these businesses that are employing them. Now enforcement actions are preformed at that business, take a count of illegals captured and levy a fine based off of that number to be paid to the ICE force. This will pay for itself through fines levied against businesses employing illegals. The third part would be for the state and local police to be involved in the capture of illegals and turn them over to ICE for deportation. When ever they pull some one over for a traffic violation they have to run checks for outstanding warrants and scofflaw violators, while they are running these checks another check would be linked to the INS to check for immigration status, if they are illegal arrest and transport them to the nearest ICE facility. When any one is arrested for a crime all of these checks need to be run again anyhow just add the INS check in. While this cost would be an added burden on the states and local police departments, this bill should be turned over to the feds for reimbursement.

In time a huge volume of these illegal aliens would be deported, it will not happen over night, just as the number of illegal aliens that we are currently at did not happen over night. This plan will work and the costs would be a lot less then making them all legal and allowing them to live off of the social services that we all pay into.

That last time I had to visit the SS administration in Reading when I walked in I was expecting to see a mix of people boy was I wrong, 90% of the people that were there were Latinos that could not speak English. There were 2 black couples and 2 caucasian couples. While sitting there waiting for my turn another group of Latinos came in and couldn't even read the signs that were printed in Spanish much less alone the ones in English.

The illegal aliens are in fact siphoning millions of tax dollars from our social services systems and it will only get worse

Secure our border with the military, plain and simple, we can protect other nations with our military and we need to do the same here. Militarize the borders south and north.

This way while they are training to preform their duty to the US they also could be protecting the US at the same time. When we are at war as is the case now these military personnel would need to remain at their posts on the border and would be used in the rotation to allow the ones in combat to return to the US and get a break from the he!! that they have been through until the rotation comes back around.

We don't need the border patrol at all, it is a waste of money that could be put to better uses. We are paying every person in the military to train to protect the US while we are not at war and that is all they do. Put them to work on the borders, they can train just as easily there as they can any where else that they do now.

By training in the areas of the borders they will encounter almost every type of landscape that they would need to fight in if a war were ever to break again. Hot desert and tropical climates in the south and cold mountainous in the north.

This will allow us to protect our borders while still allowing a good mix of training for our armed forces.

History shows that no nation can survive the tension, conflict, and antagonism of two or more competing languages and cultures. It is a blessing for an individual to be bilingual; however, it is a curse for a society to be bilingual. The historical scholar, Seymour Lipset, put it this way: "The histories of bilingual and bicultural societies that do not assimilate are histories of turmoil, tension, and tragedy." Third, "We could make the United States an 'Hispanic Quebec' without much effort. The key is to celebrate diversity rather than unity. As Benjamin Schwarz said in the Atlantic Monthly recently: "The apparent success of our own multiethnic and multi cultural experiment might have been achieved not by tolerance but by hegemony. Without the dominance that once dictated ethnocentricity and what it meant to be an American, we are left with only tolerance and pluralism to hold us together."Lamm said, "I would encourage all immigrants to keep their own language and culture. I would replace the melting pot metaphor with the salad bowl metaphor. It is important to ensure that we have various cultural subgroups living in America enforcing their differences rather than as Americans, emphasizing their similarities."

"Fourth, I would make our fastest growing demographic group the least educated. I would add a second underclass, unassimilated, undereducated, and antagonistic to our population. I would have this second underclass have a 50% dropout rate from high school."

"My fifth point for destroying America would be to get big foundations and business to give these efforts lots of money. I would invest in ethnic identity, and I would establish the cult of 'Victimology.' I would get all minorities to think that their lack of success was the fault of the majority. I would start a grievance industry blaming all minority failure on the majority population."

"My sixth plan for America's downfall would include dual citizenship, and promote divided loyalties. I would celebrate diversity over unity. I would stress differences rather than similarities. Diverse people

There was no applause. A chilling fear quietly rose like an ominous cloud above every attendee at the conference. Every American in that room knew that everything Lamm enumerated was proceeding methodically, quietly, darkly, yet pervasively across the United States today. Discussion is being suppressed. Over 100 languages are ripping the foundation of our educational system and national cohesiveness. Even barbaric cultures that practice female genital mutilation are growing as we celebrate 'diversity.' American jobs are vanishing into the Third World as corporations create a Third World in America - take note of California and other states - to date, ten million illegal aliens and growing fast. It is reminiscent of George Orwell's book "1984." In that story, three slogans are engraved in the Ministry of Truth building: "War is peace," "Freedom is slavery," and "Ignorance is strength."

Sen. Reid is hell-bent on getting this amnesty through the Senate as fast as possible and before we can fully mobilize the country as happened when we defeated his Comprehensive Amnesty bill in June.

Here is something pretty amazing: After the American people overwhelmingly rose up against the big compromise in June that traded an amnesty for some mediocre extra enforcement, Sen. Reid is trying to push through an amnesty WITHOUT ANY ENFORCEMENT MEASURES!

He is using the Rule 14 that I told you about last night to avoid any committee debate, hearings or deliberations. Filing for cloture means that he can bring the amnesty up on Wednesday.

TALKING POINTS AGAINST THIS AMNESTY</B>

But here are the things I am emphasizing to the media, most of whom can't seem to understand how I can possibly oppose helping out a bunch of good kids whose parents are the ones who broke the law by bringing them here to be illegal aliens.

• S. 2205 would do what all amnesties do -- entice millions more people to become illegal aliens here. The word across the world would be that immigration crime pays.
• The DREAM Act amnesty doesn't just offer U.S. citizenship to illegal alien teenagers, it also provides amnesty to the parents of most of them. Once the amnestied teens become citizens they can obtain an amnesty for their parents.
• S. 2205 provides for no extra enforcement to help ensure that families around the world don't risk their teenagers' lives by forcing them to enter the U.S. illegally across the deserts. Passage of this amnesty likely would increase deaths of illegal aliens in the desert as more and more people attempt to get into the country in preparation for the next amnesty.
• Many of the advocacy groups pushing the DREAM Act amnesty openly say it is intended as a way to break the barrier and then to push for several more amnesties and rewards for illegal aliens.
• Many of these teenagers weren't brought to the United States illegally by their parents. Rather, many of them came on their own and found illegal shelter with legal immigrants who were from their country.
• If there is a compelling story for giving amnesty to any of these high school students, it should be told only after the rule of law has been restored, including a fully functioning entry/exit system at the border and mandatory verification of all new hires by all businesses, governments and non-profits.

As we posted on our Home page immediately after the vote, the Senate early this afternoon voted 52-44 in favor of "cloture" on the DREAM Act amnesty. That was 8 votes short of the 60 necessary to allow the bill to even be brought to the floor.

WHO SWITCHED TO AMNESTY? WHO SWITCHED AGAINST?

For the third time this year, an amnesty failed in the Senate. (Until this year, the Senate was widely considered a lost cause for those of us interested in reducing overall illegal and legal immigration.)

I have said for years that if this concept of an amnesty primarily for teenage illegal aliens ever got to the floor of the House or Senate that it would be the most difficult to defeat. It involves the most compelling emotional stories that the open-borders people have. It is not easy to help Senators understand that they must show compassion for all the American people, too, and consider all the ramification of passing a stand-alone amnesty.

But you did it!

THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO FAXED AND ESPECIALLY WHO PHONED

To all of you who made that first phone call to a Senate office this week, isn't it amazing how easy that was and what a big difference it made? The accumulation of thousands of first-time phone calls was magnificent.

And to you who phoned and phoned and phoned every day this week, you are marathon super citizens!

We had less than 72 hours to mobilize an army of opposition to the S. 2205 DREAM Act amnesty. The other side, of course, was tipped off ahead of time and got a big head start on us on Monday. But by Tuesday noon, it appears that your phone calls were swamping theirs.

And the other side didn't come close to you on faxing, I'm confident.

You sent more than 185,000 faxes into the Senate from the time I first alerted you shortly after midnight on Monday morning to the time of the vote today!

Because you had already signed up for duty and already knew the issues, you were able to respond so quickly to my requests for action. You counteracted the effort by Senate Majority Leader Reid to avoid all the Senate rules and rush this to a vote before the country could even know what was happening.

WHAT TODAY'S VICTORY MEANS FOR THE FUTURE

This really IS a giant victory.

The other side recognizes it. Yesterday, Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) seemed to say that all the other amnesties and rewards for illegal aliens that Democratic leaders had lined up for the next several months were dependent upon passing this DREAM Act amnesty.

According to The Hill, a political junkies' publication on Capitol Hill, Sen. Menendez said: "I think the Dream Act is a litmus test. If we can't do this for children ... then I doubt we can do anything else."

Of course, the DREAM amnesty was NOT just about children, since it included illegal aliens through the age of 29!

Still, the pro-amnesty side had the image of children as their primary arguing point. Demonstrating where they felt their greatest strength lay, the amnesty's chief sponsor, the Senate's Assistant Majority Leader Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), used huge blow-ups of cute teenage illegal aliens on the Senate floor in making his appeal today.

But in the end, the American people's education of Senate offices this week -- and their constant pressure for most of this year -- seemed to have gotten through to a lot of Senators who understood that you can't make broad public policy on emotional photos and stories alone.

SEN. DURBIN'S TEST

Sen. Durbin was quoted in The Hill yesterday: "We're going to try to make this very focused. I don't want to reopen the comprehensive immigration bill debate in all of its different areas that could come up. Really I just want to test this issue."

And the test failed.

Most of the advocacy groups for illegal aliens made it clear in their emails to their members that this wasn't just about teenager illegal aliens but about a first step that, if passed, would lead to voting on a whole range of other amnesties and rewards for illegal aliens.

Sen. Durbin brought to the floor what seemed to him to be the best case amnesty scenario he had to offer. And it didn't fly.

THE END OF AMNESTY ATTEMPTS THIS YEAR?

Optimistically, we can hope that Democratic leadership will decide that it just isn't worth wasting more of the calendar and more divisiveness by bringing up any other amnesties this year -- and maybe not even next year.

We'll soon see because the open borders pushers are clamoring for a vote on the AgJOBS Amnesty when the Farm spending bill comes up probably next week.

We are hearing that some of the Democratic mid-level leaders are balking at adding the AgJOBS Amnesty to the Farm bill in committee. The question now is whether Reid will try to talk the amnesty zealots out of trying to attach it on the Senate floor, after their failure today.

I've been looking over the Yeas and Nays on today's vote and trying to imagine how enough of them could switch to get 60 votes for an AgJOBS amnesty. It seems to me that some of today's good NO votes could switch to YES. But I can see at least a couple of today's YES votes switching to NO on AgJOBS. Seems like a close call, but I also have difficulty seeing how the larger AgJOBS amnesty would be more popular than the DREAM Act amnesty with the poster kids. I hope Sen. Reid's math is working out the same and he will just save us from having another amnesty crisis next week.

SEN. HUTCHISON (R-TEXAS) MAY CAUSE DREAM AMNESTY TO COME BACK UP?

Perhaps the darkest cloud on the horizon is that Sen. Hutchison and Sen. Durbin have already announced their intent to create a new DREAM amnesty as a substitute that might garner the extra votes for passage.

Hutchison's key concept seems to be that the illegal aliens would get the right to live here permanently, to work and to get in-state tuition but would never be allowed to become U.S citizens.

We'll see.

WHO SWITCHED SIDES FROM THE JUNE AMNESTY VOTE?

The final cloture vote for the Comprehensive Amnesty in June was 46-53. The amnesty side fell 14 votes short.

Today, it was only 8 votes short.

On the face of it, this switch would seem to be more about generally realligning with where the people of North Dakota are.

Hard on the heels of your tremendous defeat of the DREAM Act amnesty in the Senate last week, we have our best chance yet in this Democratic-controlled Congress for improving enforcement against illegal immigration.

North Carolina Democratic Representative Heath Shuler will soon be introducing a great immigration enforcement bill:

The SAVE ACT (Secure America with Verification and Enforcement)

This bill (it will have no bill number until introduced) is far more than a gesture to show that Shuler is on the side of the American workers.

Congressman Shuler appears to be deadly serious about getting this bill enacted and removing the jobs magnet for illegal immigration. He is moving the ball on this bill a whole lot better than he did as an NFL quarterback, completing passes to fellow Representatives every day as he gets their signature as co-sponsors on the floor of the House.

He is fighting for immigration rationality and the rule of law with the kind of winning confidence he showed in college when he was runnerup for the Heisman Trophy.

NumbersUSA will make its formal endorsement of this bill later today.

We believe this bill with its bi-partisan support but originating on the Democratic side of the House is just the vehicle to give us a chance to actually pass immigration legislation through a Democratic-controlled Congress that would significantly improve the lives of most Americans.

REQUIRES EVERY EMPLOYER TO USE
ELECTRONIC VERIFICATION SYSTEM ON EVERY EMPLOYEE

The SAVE Act does a lot of things to protect our borders and to help with interior enforcement. (We'll provide you with a section-by-section analysis as soon as the bill is formally introduced.)

But the section that I applaud the most has to do with workplace verification. We believe that jobs are the main reason illegal aliens come here. Drying them up would seriously slow the flow of new illegal aliens. And it would start to drive perhaps as many as a million already-settled illegal aliens back home each year.

• The SAVE Act would eventually require every employee in America to go through the E-Verify system. This internet system provides employers with an inexpensive, quick, and accurate way to verify that employees are not illegal aliens. The rules for use are such that no employee or employer suffers if there is a mistake in the system because there is ample time to correct errors on the employee's side and on the government's side.

  The SAVE Act would ...
  
  [*]... require during Year 1 that all government agencies, government contractors, plus all businesses with more than 250 employees run all NEW hires through E-Verify.
  [*]... require during Year 2 that all businesses with 100 or more employees use E-Verify for new hires.
  [*]... require during Year 3 that all businesses with more than 20 employees use E-Verify for new hires.
  [*]... during Year 4 add businesses with fewer than 20 employees so that all businesses use E-Verify for new hires.
  [*]... also during Year 4 require all businessese to run all their previous hires through E-Verify.

The four-year phase-in is to give the government more room for massive expansion of its current system. It also allows the government to work out kinks before it is required for use by small businesses which often lack the personnel to easily deal with new procedures.

During the first three years, new illegal aliens and currently settled ones who lose their jobs will find fewer and fewer places where they can seek work.

But during those first three years, current illegal aliens who stayed in the same job would not be affected by the expanding use of E-Verify.

In the fourth year, however, all of those illegal workers would be run through E-Verify. If their Social Security number, name and a couple more details didn't match -- and they had no excuse -- they would lose their jobs.

NumbersUSA has always maintained that very few businesses actually want to hire illegal aliens. And we believe that of the minority of businesses that do hire illegal aliens, most do so without knowing it or do so because they feel forced to do it to keep from being run out of business by competitors who ARE hiring illegal aliens.

If we give businesses a tool they can rely on, and assure them that their competitors won't get by with hiring illegals, very few illegal aliens will get hired anywhere.

There aren't enough odd-jobs and off-the-books jobs in the underground economy to soak up the estimated 7 million illegal workers in the country. Most illegal aliens will no longer find enough work to support them and their dependents, and most of them will eventually give up their lives of illegality and go home -- ATTRITION THROUGH ENFORCEMENT & SELF-DEPORTATION.

FIRST-TIME PROVISIONS TO CATCH
ILLEGAL ALIENS USING IDENTITY THEFT

All of us inside and outside government who have lauded E-Verify under its different names the last decade have acknowledged that it doesn't identify all illegal aliens.

It works with the majority of illegal aliens who are making up Social Security numbers and names when they apply for a job.

But if an illegal alien has paid the money to steal the identity of an American, or a legally present foreign national, E-Verify passes them through.

The Shuler bill is the first to address this problem and solve it.

It creates a system of detecting when the same identity is being used to hold down more jobs than are credible. In some cases, the same identity is being used by hundreds of people in hundreds of workplaces. The Shuler bill creates a notification system that roots out this fraud. We'll describe this in more detail in a later alert.

A CHANCE FOR HOUSE DEMOCRATS TO STAND ON SIDE OF AMERICAN WORKERS -- AND AGAINST OUTLAW COMPANIES HIRING ILLEGAL ALIENS

We are ecstatic to see so many Democrats considering signing on to the toughest workplace verification language ever proposed in Congress.

In the Senate, the Democrats are overwhelmingly leaders for open borders and providing unscrupulous businesses with massive flows of foreign labor. But Shuler is out to prove that Democrats in the U.S. House stand by American workers.

I'm making such a big deal about this bill because many commentators since Democrats took control of Congress last November have said it will be impossible to move an enforcement-only bill any sooner than 2009.

If we are to have any chance at all, the vehicle must be a Democratic vehicle. The SAVE Act is.

But we need your help to push your Democratic Representative (if you have one) to sign up. Wouldn't it be wonderful if you could persuade 50 Democrats to be original co-sponsors of this bill?

Here are some other things the SAVE Act would do:

Increases Customs and Border Patrol agents by 8,000, utilizes new technology and fencing to secure the border, and expands specialized enforcement programs, such as the “Tunnel Task Force”

Outlines provisions for recruitment of new agents and personnel through bonuses, student loan repayments, and other financial incentives

Creates a pilot program to increase aerial surveillance, satellite, and equipment sharing between the Department of Homeland Security and the Dept. of Defense to reduce costs and save taxpayer money

Increases investigative abilities of ICE by employing more agents and increasing cooperation between ICE and state and local law enforcement, including sharing personnel, information, and equipment

Creates new infrastructure for the detention, processing and removal of illegal aliens by increasing detention facility capacity, and streamlining judicial processes

Implements a targeted media campaign to inform illegal aliens of new laws and penalties, while also informing employers of penalties for hiring illegal immigrants

Many Republicans have been cautious about a Democratic "Enforcement-Only" bill being promoted by Rep. Heath Shuler (D-N.C.) and gaining dozens of Democratic original co-sponsors before its introduction next week.

With nearly all the top leaders of the Democratic Party promoting amnesty and other rewards for illegal immigration, the question among Republicans has been whether the "SAVE Act" that comes from mostly lower-level Democratic Members of Congress can be trusted to truly combat illegal immigration?

Key Republican leaders of the anti-illegal movement have been giving the SAVE Act close scrutiny this week.

Doubts began to melt with the enthusiastic endorsement of the SAVE Act by California Republican Brian Bilbray, who earlier this year replaced Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.) as chairman of the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus (when Tancredo began running for President).

Bilbray promoted the SAVE Act at a key meeting of House Republicans today. And Rep. Tom Feeney (R-Fla.) was reported to have received a strongly positive reception from his fellow Republicans after walking them through the details of the bill.

Our Capitol Hill Team has been in the offices of our best Republican allies against illegal immigration all day. The report from the team is that these Republicans, after looking it over, believe in Shuler's bill.

So do dozens of Democrats whose offices we've visited recently.

The fact is that this is becoming an incredible bi-partisan bill that represents the will of the American people to finally turn the tide on illegal immigration.

We are not allowed to tell you the names of all the original co-sponsors until the bill is introduced next week. But if your U.S. Representative already has officially signed up as a co-sponsor, you will find a 'thank you' fax on your Action Buffet corkboard.

And we CAN tell you that your faxes and phone calls are really making a difference on the Hill. It is beginning to look like this bill could be introduced with more original co-sponsors than any immigration bill ever.

BIGGEST ANTI-ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION GROUPS ENDORSE 'SAVE ACT'

After weeks of study of the SAVE Act, NumbersUSA on Monday issued its official endorsement.

Today, FAIR (the Federation for American Immigration Reform) issued its endorsement. FAIR is the nation's oldest organization fighting illegal immigration, since 1979.

It does so by mantating that all employers use the E-Verify Program, requiring that the Social Security Administration share "no-match" information with Homeland Security, and prohibiting employers from deducting wages paid to illegal aliens.

WOULD DEMOCRATIC LEADERS POSSIBLY ALLOW AN ENFORCEMENT-ONLY BILL TO COME TO FLOOR FOR A VOTE?

Even a month ago, that seemed highly unlikely. After all, the career immigration record of Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) rates at only 3% in our grading system! Only 11 of the 435 Members of the House are worse.

But all of you and many other Americans have made so much noise about illegal immigration that we are hearing some slight openness among Democratic leaders to allowing concerned Democrats to make their case.

SENATE AG CHAIRMAN STRONGLY OPPOSES ANY VOTE ON AgJOBS AMNESTY ON HIS FARM BILL NEXT WEEK

Chances of a giant amnesty for ag workers and their dependents diminished significantly this morning at the National Press Club.

Sen. Harkin (D-Iowa), chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee, told a group of reporters that he is adamently opposed to the Democratic leadership allowing the AgJOBS amnesty to be introduced as an amendment to "his" Farm Spending Bill.

Harkin noted that he is an original co-sponsor for the amnesty for illegal aliens working in agriculture. But he said immigration should not be legislated in the Farm Bill.

In fact, he said, immigration policy should not be taken up again until after "the next election." That would be 2009!

Late Sunday night, I alerted you to the possibility of an introduction of Rep. Shuler's SAVE Act. I suggested that some of you might want to start calling your Representative to ask them to take a look at the bill.

By late Monday morning, Shuler's office was being pounded with phone calls from other congressional offices in the Capitol.

The staffers were asking Shuler's staffers, "What is this immigration bill that our constituents are calling us about this morning?"

Most of them hadn't heard a thing about Shuler's SAVE Act to keep illegal aliens out of U.S. jobs. So, they were really startled when NumbersUSA members started calling them as soon as they arrived at the office Monday and kept calling all day.

After three days of tens of thousands of faxes and thousands of phone calls, every office in the U.S. House (if not every staffer) has now heard about the SAVE Act from NumbersUSA constituents.

You have achieved your first task of moving this into the radar of nearly every office.

I'm sure your calls helped create more receptivity among Republicans who discussed the bill at their big meeting today.

Now, we have to help push your Representative to sign the bill (if he/she hasn't already).

REPUBLICAN VOTERS ARE WEEDING OUT THE OPEN-BORDERS TYPES IN THE PARTY

Pro-amnesty and open-borders views are taking a heavy toll on major Republican leaders this year.

Last spring, Sen. McCain (R-Ariz.) lost his front-runner status for the Republican Presidential nomination -- and plummeted almost to single-digit polling -- largely because of his highly public leadership pushing amnesties for illegal aliens. His staff admitted then and again recently that his small-donor contributions just dried up once the Senate amnesty battle began earlier this year.

Now, I am so proud of all you Republicans who have knocked Sen. Brownback (R-Kan.) out of the Presidential race. He had staked his hopes for the last two year on having a large core base of evangelical and conservative Catholic voters. He criss-crossed the country speaking to large religious conventions of these voters. Two years ago, I was hearing from many of these voters that they were enthralled with Sen. Brownback. When I would tell them about his aggressively pro-amnesty work, people reacted in disbelief.

But eventually the truth got out about Sen. Brownback's immigration positions.

Most of his other positions were almost perfectly in line with the religious base he was seeking. But, like McCain, he totally blew it with an immigration position at odds with that base. Polls show that evangelicals, for example, oppose amnesties and rewards for illegal aliens by a higher margin than almost any demographic group.

NumbersUSA participated in advertising throughout Kansas starting years ago in efforts to make sure that voters there understood the leadership role Sen. Brownback was taking for open borders positions. We have looked for opportunities wherever we could to expose him during his Presidential run.

Along with defeated Sen. Spencer Abraham (R-Mich.) and defeated Rep. Dick Chrysler (R-Mich.) and firmly ensconced Rep. Howard Berman (D-Calif.), Brownback played the key role in working with Sen. Kennedy (D-Mass.) in 1996 in killing the immigration-reduction recommendations of the bi-partisan U.S. Commission on Immigration Reform, chaired by the late Barbara Jordan.

We are most pleased to see Sen. Brownback give up the race -- and plan to leave the Senate after this term.

We are ecstatic to see Sen. Mel Martinez (R-Fla.) announce that he will soon be resigning as the head of the national Republican Party.

All news reports about his departure have noted that his constant leadership for amnesty this year has seriously hurt Republicans' ability to raise money from small donors.

I am so thankful to the thousands of you who began faxing and phoning campaigns of protest as soon as Sen. Martinez was nominated for the Party leadership. This is a reminder that even when you don't think you are having an effect at first, your pressure can eventually have results.

Thanks to all of you who have told us of returning every Republican solicitation for funds with a note that you won't give another dollar until the Party has leaders who support immigration enforcement. You are having a real effect in gradually purging the Party of supporters of illegal immigration.

I hope all of you who are Democrats are paying attention. Many of you have been doing the same thing with Democratic fund-raising letters. Let's put a lot more pressure on Howard Dean and the pro-amnesty leaders of the Party. It is not an impossible dream that these leaders will start to feel the heat and see the light, as national Republican leaders are starting to do.
