Is all of this walking beating up your knees? I know mine would be hurting enough to have me on a bike at this point-and not nearly as big as you are.
ttinco, yes they bother me some on anything but grass, thats why i usually go to the soccer field or the forest, ive started doin some streches, knee bends, etc,to make my knees stronger, they have helped tremendously, before i learned to walk on grass, and do the exercises for the knees,it got so bad,i was afraid id have to stop,i just googled "knee pain",and came up with several, when i said i stopped every mile or two and stretched, thats what i was talkin about,,,the knees didnt start botherin me til i got in the 5 mile range, evn the bike trail, which is asphalt, bothers me some, that where i had to go to today(soccer field was too wetone side is a bit low,and durin heavy rain, its impassable,),the last 2 miles,i would stop periodically, and do some half knee bends, was the only way i could continue,i think from now on,even if i have to go up and back, one side of the soccer field, thats where im goin to walk,in the meantie,im gonna continue with the knee bends, etc,and hopefully my knees will become strong enough(more balanced) to walk when and where i please,,in my experience, becoming bored with your exercise,is the number one obstacle, thats the only reason,i dont just go to the same place, every day,ye got to keep it fresh, annnd,no excuses,,if your lifestyle dont support it,you cannot be overweight,'dr phil',,,,'keep the continue' sammy sosa

Hognuts, are you ever going to start to do some running too?
seymour, from what ive read, joggin aint what i need for losin fat,im better off to walk 7 miles, than to jog 5,a good steady pace, for as long as i can reasonably hold out,is the way to lose this stored fat, once i get down to 210 or so,thatll be another story,id like to eventually jog a few miles, but if its goin to hurt my knees,i dont need it....while walkin the other day,i happened upon a fellow walker who said he was 75 years old,i asked him if he was goin to give me one piece of advice, what would it be,he said, and i quote,'stay on the grass'.. didnt do any walkin yesterday, was givin the legs a break,,,but,i did get some exercise, went and got me some seeds and miracle gro, goin to raise me a few veggies, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, radishes,i havent raised a garden,as an adult,bu was brought up in the country,if it hadnt been for killin hogs and growin a garden,we would have starved to death, and now that i dont have to worry about makin money, think ill enjoy growin my own stuff,(no,not mary jane, but i have done that, and it was some good shit, hehehe),im also clearin out a place in the garage,to put a weight bench, instead of buyin one,im thinkin about buildin one,i enjoy very much, tryin to make somethin out of nothin, give me a hammer, nails, screws,i can raise all kinds of hell, every once in a while,i actually put somethin together, that is useful, the good thing about workin for yourself is,you can tear it down, and start all over, again tomorrow, annnd,if worse comes to worse, ill get the old guitar out and sing an oldie goldie song,,, 'keep the continue'

mrhognuts, sorry but I just found out about this wonderful thread. Is it possible to give us new thread readers alittle small recap of your progress? How much weight have you lost since the start of this thread? Also any good tips you have learned along the way.

This thread has really inspired me to do something about my current situation. I'm going on 25 and weigh close to 265. I have tried running 1 or 2 miles a day the last few weeks but it's just too painful on my calves and my ankles. I think it's because my feet are just not use to running with that much on top anymore. I really want to lose the weight and i'm really interested in the idea of dieting, doing some weight lifting and walking a few miles a day. I'm hoping if I can get down 235 then maybe i can start running again without the calves and ankle pains.

Valuebets...you lose weight by exercising and eating the right foods....stay out of fast food joints and get your body moving at least five times a week...pain in the ass the first couple of weeks but if you stick to it, you will see definite results....

Amazing achievement. I'm going to follow your footsteps, hopefully see the same drastic results before the end of the year.

MrHognuts, I saw on tv that for some people who lost dramatic weights in a short time period can result in having loose skins, do you experience this?

Anyways, better get my ass off those damn computer chair and get moving. Best of luck, MrHognuts!!!

valuebets, losin 65 lbs in 11 or 12 months aint what i call drastic, andno i dont have loose skin, cause i have only been overweight for a few years, every bit of my fat is in my stomach,,ive been liftin weights and tendin to my veggies today, before i started
walkin,i never had any energy,it sure is great to wake up in the mornion and be enthusiastic about tendin to my yard, veggie garden, got my weights out in the garage, even built a bench out in my yard,so i can mess around with the weights on nice days,i love the outdoors,,losin weight is the hardest thing ive ever done, buuut,it is by far,the most rewarding,,valubets, get out there and bust your ass,if it gets a little rough, just remember that old hognuts did it and so can valuebets.

Nothing but respect for you Mr.Hognuts. It's really reassuring to hear that I don't have to worry about loose skins  .

I'm in the same boat in terms of putting on weight, about 65 lbs of fat in a span of 3 years. I just got lazy after college and ate way too much take outs. I really felt disgusted about myself until I saw your thread. Now its time to put in the effort and see some Hognutsesque results!!!

valubets, when youre out there and it gets a little rough, remember that old hognuts is pullin for ye,,somethin i hear a while back has stuck with me,bein overweight is not by chance but by choice, that pissed me off til i got to really thinkin about it,and how it relates to my life,i had a choice to make and i chose the unhealthy one,i chose baseball, basketball, football, gambling.etec etc, over my health,i suddenly became so ashamed of myself, and i realized i had a choice,to continue livin(not living, just existing, iwas a miserable mfer)like that,or go to option b,and get off my ass,,the fact is,i had ceased to enjoy life, the games just distracted me,for a couple hours a day,im happy to say that now,i have made everything secondary to my health, that goes for friends, family, ballgames, you name it,it dont mean shit to me if i havent exercised, that day,,ive got a long way to go, but 230 is a lot loser to 200,than 295.....hmmmm,think ill go for a lil walk, mess around in my garden, and then at 2:20,the reds and cubs are playin,,hehehe.."keep the continue"

old hognuts is sore as hell today, went to the library and checked out some books on weight liftin, and got carried away,im enjoyin the weights a lot more than i thought i would, buuut, they will let you know real fast, what kind of shape youre in...im learnin a lot about the body, anatomy, etc,i honestly didnt know the difference between a tricep and a bicep, until yesterday,i also found a website that shows you how to work on all the different muscles, its very interestin,im glad i got started with the resistance trainin, but if it hadnt been for some bursitis in my left shoulder,i probably would have never took the plunge,at one time it was really bad,i could hardly sleep, without meds, after only 2 weeks,i feel so much stronger,in that shoulder,it was beginnin to interrupt my guitar playin, and that shit wasnt goin to work,i was almost to the point of havin an operation on my shoulder, til i started with the weights, amazin what a little effort can do for ye....viejo where you at???

between draggin sacks of miracle gro around, transplantin tomatoe plants, from small containers to 2 gallon containers, waterin all my plants, annnnd hittin the weights in my front yard every other time i passed them,i feel like ive had a pretty good day, later,im goin to learn some of the weight lifter terms,so i can describe what im doin, right now im doin curls, for the biceps, liftin over my head, for whatever liftin over your head is for, hehehe, and layin down on my back, and bench pressin, obviously i dont know what im doin, but it sure does make me feel better,i even customized a 16 pound sledge hammer,i sawed off the handle, and it makes a perfect weight to work on my triceps, and biceps, while im watchin the games,im eventually gonna have to invest in some more equipment, especially before wintertime, when i wont be able to spend so much time outside,i dont want to get in a hurry, liftin these fkn weights, wears my ass out.....viejo,good to hear from ye,i thought for a while one of them fkn alligators had got hold of your ass, hehehe,,,you sure are doin a great job not gainin any lbs,the nightlife can put it on real fast....'keep the continue'
