I am going with the Yankees in this match up. I don’t trust Dickey as he has been way to inconsistent and the Yankees have beat him twice this season already, and Toronto is 1-7 in Dickey’s last 8 road starts against New York. Also Tanaka has been outstanding, posting a 2.77 ERA over his last 11 starts, and the Yankees have won 12 out of his last 14 starts. Furthermore, Tanaka has only allowed three earned runs in his two starts against Toronto this year, plus he has a dazzling 2.28 career ERA against Toronto, so I am confident he can lead his team to victory in this one.

5K BALTIMORE +105 (BLOWOUT WINNER 7-3)

Tampa Bay is doing their best to be a thorn in the rest of the division’s side in the last month of the season. Baltimore put together back to back shutouts of the Yankees the last two days. The Orioles need quality pitching and while Jimenez isn’t it, he’s pitched well before. Andriese is winless over the last two plus months. Asking him to contain Baltimore’s power laden lineup is too much to ask for a pitcher in a slump. Baltimore wins the opener.

5K KANSAS CITY -1.5 +130 (BLOWOUT WINNER 11-5)

These are exactly the kinds of games the Royals need to win in the last month to get in the race. Kansas City has a slew of games against doormats that can jump starter a win streak and put them in the thick of things for the last AL wild card. The Royals have to take advantage of these situations. Minnesota is terrible and their pitching is a wreck. Kansas City gets the victory to open the set.

5K CINCINNATI +101 (LOST)

I do want to buck the trends on this one, but it’s tough to against 11 straight wins. However, the Mets have to play Washington in a very tough match up on Sunday night. I’m going to go against the tired team with basically no rest.

5K PITTSBURGH -101 (LOST)

I am leaning towards the Pirates in this contest. Wainwright is not the same pitcher on the road where he has a 6.06 ERA and plus he terrible 5.97 ERA over his last seven starts, so the Pirates should produce some runs off him. Also Kuhl has been very consistent, allowing three runs or less in all but one of his starts this season, so I am confident he can limit the damage to the Cardinals offense.

5k DETROIT -101 (EASY WINNER 5-3)

This is a marquee pitching match up but it’s safe to say it would be more exciting had both teams had something to play for. As it is, the White Sox are little more than a spoiler the last month of the season. The Tigers are right in the mix for the last AL wild card spot. The match up between these two last week at Comerica Park was terrific. This one should be as well but the result is the same. Detroit gets the win.

5K TEXAS -122 (LOST)

I like the Rangers here. Yes King Felix is at home, but he is not in great form right now, while Cole Hamels is. Hamels has a strong 1.91 ERA on the road this year and he has a very hot offense behind him. The Mariners as a team are floundering right now and Texas can deliver the knockout blow to them in this series. Look for the Rangers to play well in this series overall and it starts with a big holiday win today.

Bauer tossed seven shutout innings to the Astros earlier this season, and has a phenomenal 0.67 ERA in 27 innings pitched against Houston in his career, so he should be able to hold Houston down. Also I can’t trust the rookie Paulino who has only made three starts at the Triple-A level, and I think he will be in tough against the Indians’ solid offense.

7K SAN DIEGO -135 (EASY BLOWOUT WINNER 10-0)

I am taking the Padres in this match up. I like what I have seen from Richard, as he has only conceded a total of three runs over his last five starts so I am confident siding with him. Also, the Rockies have been playing terrible baseball, especially on the road and the rookie Hoffman has been shaky for the Rockies, allowing 13 runs in 15 innings so the Padres should score some runs off him and get the win behind a strong performance from Richard.

5K CLEVELAND -1.5 +135 (WINNER 10-7)

Not much to go on for either of these guys; it’s TBA for Cole, who hasn’t been made official yet but it should be him. Asher pitched well in the minors this year before the suspension, but his big-league numbers are ugly. The Phillies are 1-6 in his past seven starts. The over is 9-2-1 in the Phillies’ past 12 in Game 1 of a series.

5K TAMPA BAY +123 (LOST 4-5)

I am going with the Rays in this one. Sabathia has a hard time with the Rays, posting a weak 5.61 ERA over his last four seasons against them, and he has a 5.20 ERA at home this year so I do not feel comfortable siding with him. Also, Cobb looked good in his first six days ago, and he has dominated the Yankees over his career, sporting a minuscule 1.93 ERA in 70 innings pitched against them, so he should be able to contain New York.

Another "PLAY OF THE WEEK" winner..... here are my results....

PLAY OF THE WEEK

7K NEW YORK YANKEES -137 (EASY BLOWOUT WINNER 5-1)

I am siding with the Yankees in this match up. Tanaka has been terrific against the Rays, sporting a 2.57 ERA with a 2-0 record in three starts against them this season, and he has a dazzling 2.63 ERA against Tampa Bay, so I am very confident siding with him and the Yankees. Also, Archer has lost both his starts against the Yankees this season, plus he has been awful on the road this season where he has a 5.79 ERA, and the Rays have lost in his last five starts against New York, so the Yankees should get him for multiple runs and get the win.

PLAY OF THE DAY

7K DETROIT -118 (LOST)

I expect the Orioles to take game one, but Detroit should bounce back in this one as they look to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Orioles will send out Ubaldo Jimenez, who has pitched much better of late, but still has horrible career numbers vs the Tigers, including his 2-8 mark with a 7.39 ERA in 10 starts here at Comerica. The Tigers have an offense that can do some damage vs him on their way to a big win.

OTHER PLAYS

5K SAN DIEGO OVER 7.5 -108 (EASY WINNER 9 RUNS)

I am going with the over in this contest. Gray has been struggling, posting a terrible 7.26 ERA over his last six starts, so he should give up runs in this one. Also, Friedrich has also struggled, as the Padres have lost his last six starts with Friedrich putting up a weak 5.68 ERA in that span. We have two struggling pitchers facing off with the over hitting consistently in their starts, and I think that trend continues in this one.

5K CLEVELAND -114 (LOST)

Hector Santiago has horrible numbers vs the Indians in his career and and the he has not pitched well as a member of the Twins. The Indians have been playing much better of late, while the Twins are going well in the opposite direction. The Indians have had their issues with the Twins at times this year, but not in this game as Cleveland picks up a nice road win here.

5K OAKLAND UNDER 8 -104 (LOST)

I really like the under in this contest. Hernandez tossed seven shutout innings in his first start against Oakland and he has a stifling 2.67 ERA in his career against them so I can’t see them scoring many runs off him. Also, Graveman has a solid 2.93 ERA over his last seven starts, plus he has a terrific 2.64 ERA at home, and the under has hit in his last six starts, so I think runs will be at a premium in this one.

SEPTEMBER 11TH 7K PLAY OF THE DAY

7K CLEVELAND -1.5 -125 (EASY BLOWOUT WINNER 7-1)

Cleveland has a terrific offense and sends their ace to the mound in the last game of this series. Minnesota continues to flounder at the bottom of the AL Central and the AL as a whole. Berrios pitches terribly at Target Field with an ERA approaching double digits. Cleveland wins easily but if the line is too heavy, take the over. Minnesota gives up a ton of runs at home.

The Reds have been a bad road team this year, but they should take this one behind the starter that is in better form. Brandon Finnegan has a 3.00 ERA in his last three starts while Vogelsong has a 7.53 ERA in his last three starts. The Pirates as a team are really struggling and the Reds have played the role of spoiler and will continue to do so in this one.

5K SEATTLE -140 (EASY WINNER 3-2)

The Mariners have picked up wins in four of their last five games. In the process, they’ve closed the gap on the last AL wild card spot. Alcantara was hit hard in his major league debut by an Angels team that isn’t overwhelming offensively. The Mariners are still fighting and have some big bats in the lineup. Seattle finds a way to get the victory to keep their success of the last week going.

5K TORONTO UNDER 9 -107 (LOST)

I am going with the under in this match up. Buchholz has bene much better as of late, allowing only a combined three runs over his last three starts, plus he tossed 6.2 scoreless innings against Toronto earlier this season, and has had good success against them over his career. Also, Sanchez has been effective against the Red Sox, posting a terrific 2.70 ERA over the last three seasons (including this season) against them, plus the Boston lineup is only hitting a combined .210 against Sanchez, so I am confident we see a low scoring game.

7K BOSTON -1.5 +100 (EASY BLOWOUT WINNER 12-2)

The Boston offense is clicking once again and they crush lefties at home. They will be facing Wade Miley, who has been horrible for the Orioles since coming over from the Mariners in a trade. The Red sox should have a field day vs him in this one. David Price has been hot of late and the Sox have won his last 6 starts and bost won each game by at least four runs. Boston should take this one easily.

I am going with the Rockies in this contest. Anderson continues to shine, conceding only a total of four runs over his last three starts, so he should be able to contain the Diamondbacks. Also, Miller continues to get shelled, and has surrendered a whopping 16 runs in his 15.2 innings pitched against the Rockies this season, and has a terrible 5.80 ERA in his career against Colorado and I think they get him for multiple runs in this one.

5K KANSAS CITY -1.5 +130 (LOST)

5K KANSAS CITY OVER 8.5 -110 (EASY BLOWOUT WINNER 19 RUNS)

Have to go with the Royals here. Even though Gee has had his struggles against Oakland, the Royals are hitting .267 against lefties compared to .255 versus right-handers. They should pound Detwiler, a spot starter, into submission.

5K ST LOUIS OVER 8 +100 (LOST)

I am going with the over in this contest. Hendricks hasn’t been as sharp as usual against the Cardinals, allowing ten runs in his last 17.1 innings pitched against the Cardinals and he has yet to beat them in his career. Also, I can’t trust Leake against this Cubs offense, he wasn’t sharp in his previous start, and he gives up a ton of hits which I think will translate to multiple runs for the Cubs. The over has hit in four out of the last five games between these two clubs and I think it hits again in this one.

I’m not betting against the Mets right now. They are playing their best baseball of the year, and they have their best starting pitcher going on Tuesday. A.J. Cole looks to have good stuff, but I’ll take the resume of Syndergaard on Tuesday. I expect a low scoring game, but I think the Mets and Syndergaard are able to escape with the win.

I can’t trust Peacock against the Rangers deep lineup, as he put up a sub par 4.23 ERA in the Minors this season and he has a 4.61 career ERA, so he is a very hittable pitcher, and the Rangers should do damage off him. Also Griffin has been solid against the Astros this season, holding them to five runs in 11.2 innings pitched, plus he is 5-0 in his career against them, so he should do enough to contain their offense while the Rangers bats hit Peacock hard.

Also, Walker has been cranked by the Angels this season, allowing 12 runs in 4.2 innings, plus he has an awful 8.89 ERA over his last six starts, so I can see the Angels doing big damage against him as well.
