7k Seattle -120 (Lost 2-3)

Ariel Miranda has been hot of late and the Mariners really need this game if they hope to stay in the wildcard race. They also have revenge on their minds after getting swept at home by these Twins earlier in the year. The Mariners have the edge on the mound and at at the plate, while Minnesota looks like it will just mail it in the rest of the way. Take the Mariners to grab a big win here and stay in the race for a wildcard slot.

SATURDAY PLAY OF THE DAY

7k Cincinnati +104 (Easy Blowout Winner 6-1)

I like the Reds in this one. Straily has dominated the Brewers this season, conceding only four runs in 20.1 innings with a 2-0 record, and he has allowed two or fewer runs in seven out of his last ten starts so he should continue his success against Milwaukee. Also, Jungmann really struggled in his last starts which came in April, surrendering 22 runs in 22.1 innings so the Reds should be all over him in this one.

7k Boston -148 (Easy Winner 6-4)

Andriese won his last two starts but that 17 appearance win less drought was telling. Porcello leads the majors in wins as he has been unstoppable all season long. Boston holds the top spot in the AL East and is in a three team race for the top spot in the AL. With that prize comes home field advantage and Boston would love to have it. Porcello keeps rolling and gets the win as Porcello gets win #22.

7k Oakland +114 (Lost 0-5)

The Rangers are straddling the fine line between trying to stay healthy and giving their starters too much rest in between outings. One wonders if that’s affected Hamels, Darvish and company as their numbers have gotten worse of late. The A’s have nothing to play for but pride. They’ve done damage to several teams chasing the postseason over the last month or so. Alcantara builds off the success in his last start and Oakland continues to be a problem for Darvish.

PLAY OF THE DAY

7k Oakland -105 (Easy Blowout Winner 7-1)

The Rangers are fighting with Boston and Cleveland for the top record in the AL and home field advantage in the playoffs. Oakland is fighting to stay out of last place in the AL West standings. Lewis dropped his last three starts and Texas lost his last seven Sunday starts. Cotton pitched terrific in his three major league starts and should be a solid piece for the A’s going forward. I look for Oakland to steal this one as Lewis continues to struggle.

5k Seattle -147 (Winner 3-2)

The Mariners are in striking distance for the last AL wild card but needs to win down the stretch. Minnesota is set for 100 losses thanks to another losing string over the last week. The Twins though Santiago was going to be a solid addition in the rotation. He may be but the rest of the Minnesota team is a train wreck. Walker struggled most of this season but had solid outings in his last three starts. Seattle picks up the win in this contest to stay close in the last wild card race.

5k Houston -1.5 +107 (Easy Winner 4-1)

Anaheim climbed out of last place in the AL West with their recent stretch. Houston was on a roll before dropping the first two of this series. The Astros need wins to chase the last wild card spot which is held by the Tigers. Musgrove pitched well over the last month or so. Wright still seeks his first major league victory. It doesn’t come here as Houston wins the last game of the series to stay in the race for the wild card.

5k Baltimore Over 9.5 -110 (Lost)

The Diamondbacks are playing out the string as their season went down the drain over the last few months. Baltimore entered Saturday half a game behind the Tigers for the last wild card spot. The Orioles need to beat teams that are struggling and Arizona fits that bill. Bundy is the better pitcher at this point. With that said, there’s a lot of power in the lineups. It’s a safe bet that this one goes over the total.

5k Toronto -135 (Winner 4-3)

I am going with the Blue Jays in this one. Estrada tossed seven shutout innings to Seattle in his previous start, and it did not look like his back was causing him any discomfort like it has been during his struggles earlier this month, plus he is 2-0 against the Yankees this season. Also Pineda has really had a tough time on the road this season where he has a 5.36 ERA, and I can’t see the Blue Jays losing a big game like this at home.

5k LA Angels -130 (Easy Blowout Winner 8-1)

Both teams are playing out the string over the last week of the season. In all honesty, they’ve been looking to 2017 for the last few months. Mengden struggled all season after coming up from the minors. Nolasco has found something in his last couple starts and his ERA is a run and a half lower with the Angels than it was with the Twins. He makes it three straight strong starts with a victory here.

5k Kansas City -165 (Winner 4-3)

The Twins are no match for anyone at this point in time. Berrios had his last start skipped due to rain and hasn’t pitched since the 16[SUP]th[/SUP]. He’s been terrible at the big league level as teams wait for him to try and sneak a fastball by them. It worked in the minors but not at the big league level. Kansas City won the last two AL pennants but someone else hoists the flag this year. Kennedy is on a roll the last couple months. The Twins don’t slow it as the Royals take the opener.

5k Milwaukee +162 (Lost)

Both teams are playing out the string over the last week of the season. In all honesty, they’ve been looking to 2017 for the last few months. This series is an elimination series as both teams are in dire straits as far as the last playoff spot goes. Fiers is inconsistent and has struggled at times lately. Hernandez was roughed up in his last start against the Astros but comes up clutch in big games. Both teams are desperate but the Mariners’ edge on the mound overcomes Houston’s home field advantage. Seattle takes this one and drives what could be the last spike in Houston’s playoff hopes.

5k Boston -1.5 -108 (Lost)

The Yankees are done, especially with the way their offense is playing right now and facing a very hot David Price is not the way for their to turn things around. The Yanks have gone just 2-9 in their last 11 games as of this writing, while the Red Sox have won their last 11 in a row and while they have qualified for the playoffs, they can still grab home field advantage throughout in the American League and that should keep them focused for this game. Take the Red Sox to grab an easy win here.
5k San Francisco Under 8 -108 (Lost)

Moore should be much better at pitcher-friendly AT&T Park. Marquez likely will be quite nervous in the first road start of his young career. The Rockies are 1-4 in their past five in Game 1 of a series. The under is 4-1 in the past five meetings in San Francisco.

2016 MLB Power Baseball Game of The Year

I am going with the Tigers in this one. McAllister has struggled against the Tigers, posting a weak 5.25 career ERA, and the Tigers lineup is hitting a combined .348 in 135 at bats against him, so they clearly see the ball well off him. They scored five runs against him in six innings this season, so I expect the Tigers offense to be very productive. Also, Fulmer has been outstanding at home where he has a 2.70 ERA, and he is coming off terrific performance so I am confident siding with him. This is a must win for the Tigers and I think they deliver.

Cleveland is: 1-4 in Bauer’s last 5 road starts & 1-5 in Bauer’s last 6 starts against the Tigers.

Detroit is: 20-6 in their last 26 home games against a team with a winning road record & 7-0 in Fulmer’s last 7 starts in the third game of a series &6-1 in Fulmer’s last 7 home starts against a team with a winning record.

I am going with the Nationals in this one. Ray is having his worst month of the season, posting a 7.66 ERA in his last five starts, and he gave up six runs to Washington in August, so they should be able to plate multiple runs off him. Washington's last six wins with Joe Ross on the mound, five have been decided by two runs or more, including three straight.Also, Ross will be on a pitch count but he will go 3-4 innings and I trust the Nationals bullpen to hold Arizona down, as their offense has scored three or fewer runs in eight out of their last ten games. Arizona's Robbie Ray has seen all of his 14 losses decided by two runs or more.

The A’s are slumping as they enter the last series of the year. Seattle still has life in the wild card race but they need wins and help. Miranda won four of his last five starts coming into this one. Graveman is win less in his last five starts and the A’s look to be mailing it in at this point. Seattle gets the nod to keep their playoff hopes for the last spot alive.

5k New York Yankees -155 (Easy Blowout Winner 5-1)

Tough to call this game as the Red Sox may still need to win it to take the division title, but still the Yankees have the clear advantage on the mound and they have been a strong home team, where they are 45-31 on the year so far. If the Sox clinch on Wednesday night, then this play will be even stronger as they will not need to win the game. Henry Owens has been horrible in his brief career as a starter and is 0-2 with an 8.31 ERA in three starts vs the Yankees. Take the Bronx Bombers in this one.

The Rays struggled over the last couple weeks in what was a microcosm of their season. Chicago won their last four entering Wednesday’s game. Chicago has won three of Jose Quintana's last four starts along with five of seven, and he is 7-4 at home this season with a 2.76 ERA. Tampa Bay's Chris Archer is 5-9 on the road with a 5.54 ERA, and his team has lost four in a row overall with him on the mound. Archer is staring at 20 losses on the year. The last time that happened was Mike Maroth for Detroit in 2003. Quintana pitched well the last couple of months. The White Sox get the nod in this contest as they take the last game of the series.

The Rays are playing out the string on a disappointing campaign. Texas goes into the last weekend of the regular season fighting for home field advantage in the AL playoffs. Darvish was sharp his last time out after a terrible start against Oakland. Andriese is unbeaten in his last three but Tampa Bay has nothing to play for here. Texas wins the game rather handily.
