I will disagree. Huge debts cause all sorts of problems and you know it. Whether is means a lowered credit rating to not having the money to pay for certain things needed. This is common sense. I have heard all this mumbo jumbo that the stimulus should have been even bigger and that's why it failed but that BS. I am not opposed to government going into debt to get certain things done but when its being wasted then every citizen who is paying for it should be outraged. Including you AK. Otherwise things like ghettos, broken down infrastructure, millions more on food stamps etc will only continue to get worse. Sounds familiar? You are wrong about government needs to be more like a business. Of course not exactly like a business but it must live within its means. If it doesn't, you get what you have today.

If you disagree then I suggest you are in denial. Like Obama is. Like Reid is. Like Pelosi is.

I suggest you really don't have a clue what you are talking about. This is way too complex for you guys. Government debt is not like your debt. How can we pay for the government if we aren't paid first? The truth of the matter is the money we use to lend to the government or pay our taxes to "fund" the government has to be given to us first by the Government. One of those chicken/egg situations, lol. But trust me, it's not even a real debate, the Government will continue to go in to debt towards infinity. They will never pay it off because that would require them taking back what they gave us.

Your theory of wasted spending is just conjecture. I don't care where the money is spent, although it is nice to spend money that does benefit the infrastructure and defense of our country. But otherwise, whether it's "wasted" or not it is still income for real people who spend that money in the real economy.

This is too complex for you. I suggest you go the normal conservative route and just paste clip art pictures they find on Google. Talk to Sheriff Joe and Dave, they'll help you out.

every government job (including politicians) is paid for by working people. 100%. They are trusted with your money to spend it appropriately. This is the basic part of life. Not too long ago that accountability seems to have changed into something evil. And they have convinced you and others of this nonsense you believe. I ain't saying you're stupid but only that you have bought into this brainwashing. There wasn't a 17 trillion debt 10 years ago. It wasn't there 15 years ago either. No one really even said the word trillion much.

The crooks in Washington have desensitized so many into believing its no big deal. Just like the Patriot Act remember? Now they think its ok to spy on anyone anything. Their plan is working to millions but there are those, like me, that say bullshit because you work for us. You are elected to serve the people, not special interest groups and lobbyists.

I am not anti government but I am against corruption and incompetence. Something Obama and his administration are full of. It's not too complex for me as you suggest. Lol.

I will agree that the US will probably never pay it off. Especially the way the are running the country today. It will only keep getting worse as it has under obama. Millions more on food stamps, more low paying and part time jobs and the Chinese will continue to keep on using their US bonds to buy up shit all over the world because eventually they will become worthless if they don't.

I suggest AK, that you have been sold a type of pyramid scheme by this administration and you turn a blind despite all indications this is insane, you choose for whatever reason to buy into it.

If that makes you feel happy than believe it all you want. But in a fiat nation like ours, for us to be able to fund the Government we have to be funded first. People made this same argument 75 years ago when the debt was $42 billion. They made it when the debt reached $100 billion, they almost shut the government down when it reached $1 trillion. Same old argument yet you guys are always wrong. When it's $50 trillion you won't even remember when it was $17 trillion and you'll still be wrong.

I've been sold an education in economics. You are just a normal anti-government loon which is why you fit right in with the clowns on this site. If you want to learn let me know, but you should not think you have all the answers. What you are saying is incredibly immature for a grown man.

all I will say to that is there are many educated people in economics, people much smarter that you and me, who disagree with you and agree with me. So what does that mean exactly? Nothing to you I know. But it means we will agree to disagree. I know I am right and I know you will disagree. You seem to think things are just great in the USA, I get it. And I see they aren't. And the merry-go-round goes round and round.

Very few educated economists agree with you. And we will not agree to disagree. You are very very wrong on this. You guys just hate the government which makes you focus on all things negative which makes you guys really crabby and fearful of everything. Almost everything I say comes from the actual sources, whether it be from the Federal Reserve, economic entities throughout the world, professors of economics, etc. You guys have the conservative blogosphere on lockdown, lol.

You are correct, but there is a point (the point at which US Treasuries are no longer desirable) where debt becomes unsustainable. It is naive to believe that the government can operate without debt but it is also naive to believe that there are not circumstances, bad demographic trends or troubling debt-to-GDP ratios, that can make US Treasuries undesirable.

That point will never come. They will always be desirable for banks, foreign countries with large amounts of USD, and hedge funds/large investment portfolios in USD. They are the most liquid and secure interest bearing asset their is. There will never be a point in our lives where banks will stop buying treasuries.

If the government has UNLIMITED amounts of money and can spend and waste it on whatever it wants... I have a question.

Why doesn't the government just buy a house and 2 cars for every citizen and put $3000 per month into everyone's account?
It would end poverty and homelessness.

But they can't do that....why?

They could do that if they wanted to. The reason they won't is.

1) Congress wouldn't agree to it
2) It would pose a serious inflationary threat

What I talk about is the fiscal balances between the various entities in our system. When I say the government can spend an infinite amount it doesn't mean they should, it just shows that people who say we are broke or that $17 trillion is too much debt, etc... have no clue what they are talking about.

For anyone who's ever wanted to debate the clueless "community organizer" or Paul "the internet will be a bust" Krugman, well... FratFraud is the next best thing.

never said I hate the government. I hate incompetence and crooks. So should you. If you think this is working, then so be it. You are never going to convince me otherwise. I am right. Just like the many educated economists.

Corruption and incompetence are one thing. That's an argument one can have. But your arguments are just about that, you are sticking to the normal anti-government rhetoric. It's called "mainstream economics" for a reason. It's what your people try to say is "liberal brainwashing", lol. But you have very few real economists on your side. I mean there are some conservative leaning economists, but the majority of economists across the world think like me. If you have thoughts like Sheriff Joe, festeringZit, or Dave you have got to second guess your decision making process. It's working better than any other economic system in the history of mankind. So I guess maybe the smart people know what they are doing.

It got there because the economy grows. It will get to 30+ trillion, 50+ trillion, 100+ trillion. A necessity in our monetary system. I would call it basic math.

Normal people call it basic stupidity.

I think AK is just saying this stuff to get some people agitated to see their reaction. Maybe some kind of internet psychology experiment? Something doesn't add up to me.
