Canada we called it Pop

Do people still drink that shit regularly when they get older? Unless its used a mixer in a drink of course.

I'll be annoying the shit out of y'all if/when we ever meet. Because I drink dr pepper and call it coke. Always have. Always will. When I was in college in NY I'd ask "y'all got any cokes?" And everyone would think I was referring to coca cola exclusively.

here in southern cali everyone i know calls it soda. knew a girl that went to school in minnesota and came back calling it pop. my cousins in england call it pop also, so the term doesnt bother me. coke would drive me to punch someone though. what do they call sprite and ginger ale, basically anyother soda besides coke

I grew up always calling it "tonic." Surprised no one else has mentioned this term.

I call it pop. I think it is a Midwest thing.

At the beginning of the 19th century soda water consisted of nothing but water, a little soda, and sometimes a bit of flavoring. Soon someone thought to force gas into the water and to keep it there under pressure, the soda water sparkling and foaming when the pressure is removed and the gas escapes. The soda was kept under pressure in cylinders that came to be called ‘soda fountains’…the sparkling, popping soda that came out of the fountains probably was responsible for the name POP for SODA long before soda was bottled."

We call it soda out here on the west coast. We also call shoes, shoes, not sneakers. And we say jacket not coat. My mom grew up in the mid west, and always used terms like pop, sneakers, and coat.
