I remember when I was going to the U. of Toledo, if you asked for a phosphate, you got an ice cream soda. Soda was known as "pop" in the midwest.

soda and pop are pretty close as in sodapop.

coke is too specific, if it includes any version of pop. I bet Coca-Cola loves that term !

When I was a kid the term "sodapop" was still common then it was "coke" now its "what have you got as a mixer?"

The real question is...

Who in God's name spent time putting this map together? And how did they get the data?

If the answer is simply "it's a government project" then it makes complete sense.

isn't calling ALL soft drinks "coke" the equivalent of calling all cars "camaro" ?

Bill : "Hey John, nice Camaro."
John : "It's a Cadillac you idiot"
Bill : "I don't understand. Can we take your Camaro out for a spin?"
John : "It's a Cadillac you dork"
