fugazi .. I for one minute do not beleive that Pete and Sark have problems. Hell Pete helped him get the WA job!!

Of course Pete knows there will be competition in recruiting but Pete also knows the 4 and 5 star recruits are his in any head to head matchup with the boys out of SoCal ..

He helped him get the job, but this happened after Sark became the head coach. Sark nabbed Holt and was also trying to get Rocky Seto.
The recruit in question is James Boyd, during his recruitment Sark mentioned to him that SC would be going on probation soon. I know this as fact straight from Boyd's HS head coach. It's pretty common knowledge that SC could be facing probation or some sort of penalties soon, so it's not like that this is earth shattering info.

Hey Conan, wanted to get your thoughts on a couple of games.

Stanford/Wake Forest. This is a 9am west coast start time and the line at the moment is Wake -2.5. I remember last year Cal playing Maryland as a 2td favorite at this same time and really struggling, especially early in the game. Wondering if you had Wake on your radar based on the low spread and early start time.

Idaho/Washington. This is more of a play against UW, then for Idaho. Everyone seems to be giving UW a pat on the back for their performance in the loss to LSU. Hell, after the game Jake Locker had a smile on his face. But they also play USC next week and I wonder if after keeping it close against LSU, they are already looking ahead to the challenge of USC. It seems that Idaho is a letdown spot, and the 20.5 points seems inflated based on their performance against LSU. I'm thinking UW might be a good fade in this spot.

max, don't be so skeptical of UW. You had to see them to understand. They have been on this upswing all spring and summer long. Their performance in the LSU game came as no surprise to those of us who have been following closely.

In Stanford's case, the line is right. I'm waiting for it to get bet up some more, then I may play the Cardinal small. Another thing. Stanford is now in their 3rd year with Harbaugh as their HC. Their OL is one of the best on the WC and they got some big boys out this way. USC and Cal to name a couple more. Opening holes the way they did for Gerhart was no fluke. Their OL is big, strong and experienced. Also, their young QB Andrew Luck looks like the real deal. There were several new QB's starting last Saturday and he played the best of them all, competent to say the least, albeit reigned in because Harbaugh is taking it slow with him. They didn't need much from him anyway because they dominated the line and didn't really require any more than that. It would be wiser to think that they could sneak up on Wake rather than to take anything away from their performance vs WSU.

******************************************************

Hey, anyone catch ASU last Saturday? Not bad at all. Sullivan played better than expected and their defense was as expected too. I still think they may be a little weak offensively but their defense seemed to live up to its billing. We'll learn some more as time goes by but so far so good. They might come out vs UGA in 2 weeks tougher than I thought they would.

No offense bud, really not meant that way but... :>( that was pretty weak.

You're right, it's not earth shattering news, as that story surfaced over 3 months ago from Yahoo Sports. Look it up, it's in their archives for everyone to peruse.

So Sark was negitive recruiting against USC, then he let it slip out to the media that he was doing so, even if it's against the NCAA by-laws to say anything about recruits.

If this story has legs to it, what has happened since then?

Recapping so far:

Oregon St.-6½/UNLV*
UW-21/Idaho*
WSU+2½/Hawaii ½*
USC -5/OSU*** (GOW) -- A rare 3* pick but that's how my action went down.
The line blew me away! I did get 2* at 5½ just to be accurate and 1* at 5. I'd lay 7 all day.)

One more solid wager I am waiting on would be the total in the WSU/Hawaii game...
Looking for an under opportunity. Also maybe a total over wager in the OSU/UNLV game.

I never said USC would walk through Udub like nothing. I know better than that. Why would you suggest that I don't know this? Even when TW was there it wasn't so easy. I just think this soap opera sh*t is way overstated. By the way, did you know that he lured Holt with a ½million/yr. deal? If he offered me a ½million/yr. and told me to jump, I'd say OK, how high? Fact is though that PC reloads his coaches like he does players. Working under PC is a ticket to the bigtime.

Trivia question:

Subject:
First time starting USC QB in his first OOC road game (with no previous playing time on the road)

Question:
Who was it and what was the final score?

(scroll down for the answer)

Answer: Matt Lienart 2003 vs. Auburn, score USC 23-0 (That game killed Auburn's NC hopes)

Now that we've heard from everyone on the subject of Matt Barkley in his first big road game ever, what does he have to say about it? When he was asked what he thought about having 100,000 screaming fans in bedlam, this was his reply:

"I don't think that will make a difference," Barkley said after his cool-as-a-cucumber debut against San Jose State. "We'll do what we do best -- focus on ourselves throughout the week, focus on how we can be better. You have to learn to push that stuff out. The atmosphere is probably going to be nuts. I probably don't even know how crazy it's gong to be. That won't faze me."

No it won't. That's hard for most people to understand, but Matt Barkley isn't like most people. Keep in mind that these are words from an 18-year old.

Adding to the above just for the sake of taking it on a bit further to get the team's approach and their attitude:

USC will practice with extra noise all week. It will work on various nonverbal signals to share audibles and information. While the Trojans defense is young, Barkley will be surrounded by veteran players on offense.

If any Trojan is worried about the notorious atmosphere in the Horseshoe for a night game, he isn't letting on.

"It's just noise," safety Taylor Mays said. "I like it. I like hearing it and then hearing it get quiet."

Thanks BP for the heads up.
I just found it at 50½ at bookmaker and it's a bet.

WSU/Hawaii U50½*

also:

Oregon St.-6½/UNLV*
UW-21/Idaho*
WSU+2½/Hawaii ½*
USC -5/OSU*** (GOW)

That could be a wrap, but I'm watching the board to see if anything changes or if anything else crops up.

beaver game got bet down 2 pts. also 56-54

Yeah? Well if it keeps getting bet down, I'll try a little bit on the over.
I'm definitely looking for the best deal I can get on this one.
I won't bite where it is now.

I may also hit Stanford if the line moves up much more.
Maybe by game time it will be bet up to +4 if I'm lucky.

It would be tough to expect the number to come off of 7 again. As far as the total goes, I'm looking to go over in this one but I'd like to see the total drop some more. I think the Beavers will win this one by a margin of between 7 and 13 ponts. Possibly they may take it to the Rebels but I believe it's better to go conservative and keep expectations within reason. Over a TD is likely because they want to win it with a comfortable margin of victory. That rings true to me.

It's that desert air that distracts a lot of teams not used to it. Maybe that's it. It seems to turn games into something more competitive than you'd expect. The Beavers had a rough time the last time they traveled to that part of the country, barely beating Arizona when they played them at the end of last season. But then again they were facing a much better defense than UNLV brings to the game. I don't think UNLV will have an answer for the Rogers brothers.... and QB Sean Canfield sure looked good in his first start this year, accurate all over the field. Not much of a drop off when the new guy Ryan Katz took over calling the signals during mop up time.

I agree with you on WSU plus the 2.5 football points cause the other team has some little football players' on it and WSU has their mojo going on and that works for me.

Have a good year my friend. There is a lot of football money out there, grab it!

Conan, I like your plays so far....except for WSU. I know Hawaii struggled, but WSU is a terrible football team. I think Wulf is a decent coach and I've been waiting to see them turn around. Until I see it I'm staying away from taking them. They made me a lot of money last year!! And they didn't disappoint in week one....
