Hey Conan, wanted to get your thoughts on a couple of games.
Stanford/Wake Forest. This is a 9am west coast start time and the line at the moment is Wake -2.5. I remember last year Cal playing Maryland as a 2td favorite at this same time and really struggling, especially early in the game. Wondering if you had Wake on your radar based on the low spread and early start time.
Idaho/Washington. This is more of a play against UW, then for Idaho. Everyone seems to be giving UW a pat on the back for their performance in the loss to LSU. Hell, after the game Jake Locker had a smile on his face. But they also play USC next week and I wonder if after keeping it close against LSU, they are already looking ahead to the challenge of USC. It seems that Idaho is a letdown spot, and the 20.5 points seems inflated based on their performance against LSU. I'm thinking UW might be a good fade in this spot.
max, don't be so skeptical of UW. You had to see them to understand. They have been on this upswing all spring and summer long. Their performance in the LSU game came as no surprise to those of us who have been following closely.
In Stanford's case, the line is right. I'm waiting for it to get bet up some more, then I may play the Cardinal small. Another thing. Stanford is now in their 3rd year with Harbaugh as their HC. Their OL is one of the best on the WC and they got some big boys out this way. USC and Cal to name a couple more. Opening holes the way they did for Gerhart was no fluke. Their OL is big, strong and experienced. Also, their young QB Andrew Luck looks like the real deal. There were several new QB's starting last Saturday and he played the best of them all, competent to say the least, albeit reigned in because Harbaugh is taking it slow with him. They didn't need much from him anyway because they dominated the line and didn't really require any more than that. It would be wiser to think that they could sneak up on Wake rather than to take anything away from their performance vs WSU.

Hey, anyone catch ASU last Saturday? Not bad at all. Sullivan played better than expected and their defense was as expected too. I still think they may be a little weak offensively but their defense seemed to live up to its billing. We'll learn some more as time goes by but so far so good. They might come out vs UGA in 2 weeks tougher than I thought they would.
