Key to loss

Time of Possession 37:05 to 22:55

Defense was key in this game. The Giants minimized the Pats offensive opportunities by keeping their Defense on the field, which put pressure on the Pats offense to have a near perfect game to win (almost did it)..If TOP were more even, there would have been more opportunities to make up for the few mistakes they made as well as momentum gain. Giants took advantage of the PATS defensive weakness by grinding it out, and keeping the Pats offense off the field the majority of the game.

First of all, even if Welker caught the ball, how do you know what would have happened in the next series of plays. How do you know that Brady wouldn't have been intercepted, or got sacked and fumbled, or another player fumbled and the Giants recovered and scored a TD. We've all seen something happen like that before. Catching the ball didn't guarantee NE anything! They would have had the ball on about the 20 yd line. What happened after that is anyones guess.

And give credit to the NYG punter as he pinned them 3 out of 4 times deep in their territory. That plus TOP made it extremely tough on NE. That two points from that safety were big factors in game strategy as it turned out.

i would be shocked if anyone believed the pats would win 5 times out of 10 against the giants

the giants might have been trailing throughout the game but other than the 2nd q it always felt like they controlled the game. i never got the feeling like, 'oh shit here comes tom brady and they can't do anything about it.'

One thing that I liked about the Giants DB's is that they showed CLASS! When Welker dropped that pass, you didn't see them start getting in Welkers face about blowing the catch. They congratulated each other and walked away from the play. No standing over the player and pointing fingers at him and making gestures to put him down.

Watched the game over yesterday...It was a horrible throw by Brady...Welker was all alone for 15-20yds coming off the line of scrimmage and Brady could have hit'em then....Brady threw a bad pass but Welker stuck up for him....and Brady's deep throw to Gronkowski must have been due to a brain fart...Wait Gronkowski was supposed to be hurt and limited yet he was at the club Super Bowl night getting his groove on as if there was nothing wrong LOL.

Eli is imo right now the very best QB in the league.
But for pure passing there are still a few that are better.
I would not take the others over him however.

Lets not go crazy here. Don't forget it was the Giants D, not Eli, that won these last 2 games. Honestly, against SF, Eli led his Giants to a whole 10 points if it were not for Kyle Willimas gifting the Giants the ball twice inside SF territory. And vs. the Pats the D held the Pats to 17 points, way below their season average.

Eli looks like a dorky kid but he's elite.

Welker helped lose the game but he wasnt alone in it. plenty of blame to go around.

Again, you can't tell what would have happened even if Wilmas didn't have the ball hit his knee or fumble. How do you know that another player wouldn't have fumbled or Smith would have been intercepted for a pick 6 if the 49ers kept the ball? You just can't predict what would have happened if the 49ers kept the ball. We've all seen strange things happen in the NFL.

I really get a kick of how these sports announcers on radio keep assuming that the Patriots would have DEFINITELY SCORED had Welker caught that pass. It's like we've never seen a team turn the ball over when they get inside the 20 yd line, or even closer. I guess no one ever saw Byner fumble the ball on the two yard line when Elway started his "miracle" 98 yard drive to victory after the Broncos recovered the ball. I guess that never really happened.

First of all, I always like seeing your name here because it just cracks me up.

Eli won 7 games this year in the 4th quarter. He is a steady player, and makes the big plays when he needs to. He was far better than Tom Brady was, and made the critical plays he needed to make.

In some regard, you could also say Tom Brady is a vicitim of his team's mediocre receiver corps. But he also was the beneficiary for years to, and every QB is not as good or bad as he appears mostly because there is always a team that surrounds them and either makes them look a lot better or worse than they are. Eli is a great leader, and that is the biggest intangible imo.

I agree but you are kind of helping my point which was the Giants D won the NFC title game & Superbowl not Eli. Eli & the O could only muster 10 points if it were not for Williams handing them the ball. It was the Giants D that shut down the 49ers O and more importantly held the Pats 2 TDs below their season average. Most of the public, especially in the SB, focuses on the QB but the Giants would not have won a SB if their D did not play amazing just like the SB 4 years ago.

The Giants defense was the star of the game and was the biggest reason that the Giants won the Super Bowl. I completely agree with you TP.
They made the big plays, got the picks, sacks and forced the errors. They played great.

As far as QBs go, we all know it's incredibly hard to be an aggresive passer and not make a lot of mistakes.
Most QBs fail because they don't have the arm to be that aggresive, or don't have the brains or skills to avoid mistakes.
Dilfer was the extreme of having a brain and being able to avoid mistakes, and was also the extreme at NOT having the arm to be aggresive.
Eli is a very good mix of both qualities. He doesn't quite have the arm of Brees, Rodgers, Brady or Manning I, but imo he has better skills than all the rest when it comes to avoiding mistakes.

His playoff run this year was an amazing combination of error-free football and aggressive passing. He had all those 4th quarter comebacks this year and belive me TP, I am no Giants fan and am one of the last to appreciate Eli's skills, but this year, even moreso than the last Super Bowl season, the guy earned his marks.

Patriot fans have surpassed Yankee fans on the annoying scale.

Patriots fans still think they won the Super Bowl four years ago.

If Tyree didn't make that catch...........

If Welker caught that ball..........

Don't know what fans you are hearing, but that ain't the case up here. 100% of the people at my party, more than 25 of them, thought the Pats deserved to lose. Not one person I know thinks we won the super bowl 4 years ago. I'd like to see the ring if we did. There was no IF IF IF talk, it was choke choke choke talk.

It was choke city again. Who is denying this? The Giants deserved to win, just like 4 years ago. 99% of us New Englanders take the losses like men. We have won plenty to know the flip side of the coin.

And to the donk telling Gisele to shut up...do you know the context that was said in? Do you know how that happened, where she was and all the Giants fans blasting her? She was defending her husband...wow how terrible. And she was right. Welker should have caught the ball. But do I or anyone I know put the loss on Welker? Hell no. The guy was targeted 8 times and caught 7 of them. The Pats had their chances and they folded again. We will back again, really not worried about it.

For every boston fan you guys blast, there is one of your own.

Agreed, bro. How many times did the Pats have the ball with the lead in the second half? Forget Welker, Gronk's injury, and all the other shit that happened, I place the blame more on the offensive playcalling than anything else. Billy O'Brien is a hack.

Not all fans, you are a good fan, my wife is a very good Pats fan too, some, just some Yankee fans are very obnoxious, but believe it or not, there are some Yankee fans that 'get it'

And yes, Mrs. Brady was standing up for her guy.

pure comedy

and anybody who loses two games like that would talk about what if, it's what all fans do. With very few exceptions, I don't see people trying to rewrite history. It is what it is.

what we do see is Giants fans acting like they were two blowout wins, and talking like they talked to Gisele. Reminds me of St John's fans after they win a game. Giant fans want to think it's two blowouts, so much so that some get offended when you talk about how close the two games were.

seriously, if you saw Gisele, what would you be doing or saying? If I met Ashley Judd after we beat UK last year, I'd apologize for her pain, tell her it was a great game and tell her she still beautiful.

The last think I would ever do is suggest a team playing in the Final Four sucks in some way. But that's how NY fans roll.
