I notice you have a great interest in diabetes. Someone close to you a diabetic? If so just have them drop a bunch of weight. Problem solved.

However being heavy doesn’t mean you’ll have diabetes. I’m 68 years old, 6 feet 2 and weigh 240. I take zero meds and pretty much eat and drink anything I want. The only exercise I get is a 20 minute walk a day.

I smoke cigars, drink beer and have done it all my life. So did my grand father and my father. One died at 96 the other 94.

So I expect to live at least another 20 years unless of course I get hit by a bus or get shot in the back by a jealous husband.

Why do I expect to live least another 20 years? Because of my genetic make up. That’s the only thing that makes any sense.

Apropos to the conversation:

There is no one size fits all approach.

My wife is like this. She eats junk food whenever she wants and can't gain a pound. I'd bet anything her GFs secretly hate her.

Public Education compared to what? Public Education is a progressive FAIL no matter how you measure it.

For instance, take home schooling:

3-homeschooler-national-average-percentile-scores.jpg

So much for the libtard canard of conservatives being 'dumb'

But wait, lets measure Public Education against itself - the results are even more horrifying:

SAT-Scores-declining-Zero-Hedge.png

You're a libtard, so expect to be proven wrong over and over. Funny how people with less than a high school diploma were wiser 50-100 years than today's "educated" crowd. Actually, if we replace 'educated' with 'indoctrinated' it makes perfect sense.

Today's government-indoctrinated kids are DUMBER, courtesy of your FAILED ideology.

what did you prove? you stated that the average 18 year old
cannot read or write? this does not prove that. so
what, homeschooled kids out perform public school kids? what is that proving me wrong to? should everyone skip public school and be home schooled? many home schooled kids that I have met are socially lacking and for a
better term weird

I can believe that, I mean any State whose voters elected Franken as a Senator and Ventura as a Governor have to be a bit socially awkward.

Ok what don't you like about them? Other than Franken being a democrat? Ventura was well liked. You want to compare the intelligence of Minnesota vs. Nevada? How about Health Care and Education?

Actually, it is jobs, lower taxes, and more land.

But your posts here are parody, so I wouldn't expect you to understand.

Yeah that's why you were voted most worthless poster, considering only a handful of people lean left here, it means you got a lot of righty vote too

Of coarse that has a lot to do with it, Northeast is over crowded, property is cheaper down south, the East Coast has over priced itself. Who would want to pay high rent and those high mortgage payments? There are tons of people who want to move south, weather being a big factor for many.

Knock your socks off. When I look at Minnesota all I see is lakes, cold, moose and squirrel, Muslims and a shitty football franchise that can’t even afford there own stadium.

The fact that one of your Senators biggest claim to fame is he was a comedian and still is says it all.

Opps! My bad on the stadium.

I don't think many would call the Vikings a shitty franchise. Look at Walker, he just cut $300 more
million in education on top of what he already cut and now proposed $200 million for a Bucks stadium, now that is a shit Franchise. Al Franken is considered one of the hardest working politicians, your knock on him is that he was a comedian? So what? minnesota crushes Nevada in education, health care, and unemployment.

"socially lacking"

libtards go from one stupid argument to another.

Social skills...hmmmm...let's see now...boy or girl scouts, church youth groups, organized sports...lots of outlets to develop social skills.

Pretty pathetic that two parents with Google outperform government-certified teachers.

Like everything progressive, public education sucks.

so you are saying that the homeschooled kids I knew weren't? none of the kids I knew were allowed in those either. city of
30,000 people never seen one home school kid at a baseball tryout or on any of
the teams, didn't see one at my church either, ok how about the youth group? nope? At the park every once in a while or maybe for a few months when the parents thought public school would be OK and then realized he/she didn't fit in or how about the kid you went to school with who didnt come back for second grade? those were the home school kids I know, also I wonder how many home
schooled kids took the SAT? hell I knew a few guys who were home schooled doing nothing more than what a current high schooler could do such as McDonald's and Wal Mart so home
schooling didn't help the kids from my town except maybe saved them from having their lunch money stolen

You have to love someone who posts outright lies and self refuting blather talking about "education"

You are very, very stupid. You probably should shut up. Instead, you will persist.

Now you're just babbling.

Like all Big Government programs, public education is in decline.

Home schoolers are blowing everyone else out of the water.

Probably because home schooling parents actually teach their kids history, reading, math, science, critical thinking, etc., whereas public schools are indoctrinating kids with "global warming", "transsexual studies" and "anti-bullying"

Is it becoming more common or have the screening and detection improved over that period?

Most cancers are random gene mutations - genetics, environment don't even factor into the equation.

http://www.webmd.com/cancer/news/20...ble-for-about-two-thirds-of-cancer-risk-study

Bad luck.

Sad but true.

thks for the reply and link, its been read. Did you read the link i provided titled 'Genes are not Destiny', re., obesity. (please note obesity walks hand in hand with type II diabetes amongst others, not a 100% correlation , of course). If not, please consider reading it. It tells us that genes are not the only factor in obesity . In addition, equally important screening for 'obesity genes' is of no use. Below is a reference from said article. Hence, medicine in its effort to control rising obesity and its related morbidities needs to target prevention.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22069377

to re-iterate my note to Dave was not an attempt to diminish the role of genetics, rather for to appreciate the massive effect environment plays in disease expression be it auto-immune, cardiovascular, cancer , skin disease, mental disease, etc. And that a statement 'nothing one can really do about it' or the more common narrative 'it's all genetics' is FALSE. Grossly false.

Please keep in mind primary genetic pathology (chromosomal abnormalites/mutations) are not in dispute. And yes , 'bad luck ' indeed. They sadly run the full gamut. Obesity is also touched-- as an example, Prader-Willi syndrome. A chromosomal defect. The individual will have other issues hence, the use of the word 'syndrome'. With these people satiety is atta whack

ask her after a meal if she's full...her likely response? 'what do you mean?' :)........she's toast. Her pathology is genetic. I'm not talking about her, the rare forms.

we can decrease the probability of disease expression with lifestyle changes (quality of food, quality/quantity of sleep, physical movement ). And with rising medical costs that are strangling North America its our only hope. It really is. It's not easy cause we have set ourselves up for failure-- stresses of work, food choices available, poor sleep patterns.

are you asking or telling? :)

guidelines for diabetes diagnosis were set in 1979. Revised, more stringently in 1997 then again in 2003.

I don't have an answer as to the impact of more readily available testing has had on diagnosis numbers and hence how that chart would look differently . Do you? if you do please share.

let's keep in mind those numbers are DIAGNOSED tallies. They do not include the number undiagnosed. Estimated 1 in 10 Americans have hyperglycemia . Amazing. Their bodies have been butchered to the point it CANNOT REGULATE blood glucose levels , a homeostasis we take for granted daily. Punish it further and they are beyond pills they need insulin.

CDC estimates if nothing changes 1 in 3 will have it by 2050
