Preview: Phillies at Blue Jays

GAME: Philadelphia Phillies (30-34) at Toronto Blue Jays (35-31)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, June 14 - 12:37 PM EST
WHERE: Rogers Centre, Toronto, Ontario
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Philadelphia Phillies had looked downright sickly of late with losses in 13 of their previous 16 contests before returning to health with a resounding victory against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Phillies vie for their sixth win in eight interleague games this season on Tuesday afternoon when they play the second contest of a four-game, home-and-home series with the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre.

Odubel Herrera homered and drove in three during Philadelphia's 7-0 triumph on Monday and is 11-for-29 with five RBIs and as many runs scored in his last eight games. The 24-year-old Venezuelan has enjoyed success versus Toronto in a small sample size, going 5-for-11 in three career encounters. While the Phillies emphatically snapped a four-game losing skid, Toronto saw its three-game winning streak come to a screeching halt after it had erupted for 37 runs in its previous five contests. Michael Saunders will put his seven-game hitting streak (12-for-25) on the line against right-hander Zach Eflin, who is making his major-league debut on Tuesday.

TV: 12:37 p.m. ET, MLB Network, CSN Philadelphia, Sportsnet (Toronto)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Phillies RH Zach Eflin (NR) vs. Blue Jays RH Marcus Stroman (5-2, 4.94 ERA)

Eflin has been summoned from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to get the nod in place of Vince Velasquez, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right biceps strain. The 6-6 Eflin has posted a 5-2 mark with a 2.90 ERA and 0.88 WHIP this season during his first stint in Triple-A. The 22-year-old Eflin had struck out 55 batters in 68 1/3 innings - with his sinkerball being his pitch of preference.

Stroman struggled in his third straight start on Thursday as the 25-year-old yielded four runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings of a no-decision versus Baltimore. Stroman has surrendered 17 runs on 28 hits - including three homers - and seven walks in his last three outings. Stroman has made a pair of relief appearances versus Philadelphia, permitting just one hit and striking out two in 2 2/3 frames en route to a 1-0 mark.

WALK-OFFS

1. Toronto 3B Josh Donaldson has reached base in 18 consecutive games.

2. Philadelphia rookie 1B Tommy Joseph is 0-for-8 with four strikeouts in his last two contests after collecting 12 hits in his previous eight games.

3. Blue Jays 2B Devon Travis has shown signs of returning to health following his shoulder issues, recording three hits in his last two contests after going 1-for-24 in his previous seven games.

Preview: Cubs at Nationals

GAME: Chicago Cubs (43-19) at Washington Nationals (40-24)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, June 14 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: Nationals Park, Washington, District of Columbia
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Chicago Cubs might have finally found a team even hotter than themselves. The streaking Washington Nationals cooled off the visiting Cubs in the series opener and will look to do it again Tuesday in the second of three games between division leaders.

The Cubs own the best record in the majors, but the Nationals claimed a 4-1 victory in Monday’s series opener for their fourth straight win and their 11th in 14 contests. Chicago needs to clean up a recent spate of sloppy glove work, as the Cubs have committed at least one error in four straight games - including a total of nine in the past three contests. They’ll try to improve the defense behind veteran right-hander John Lackey, who matched his season high with 11 strikeouts in a win over the Nationals on May 6 at Wrigley Field, allowing two runs and six hits over seven frames. Left-hander Gio Gonzalez will oppose Lackey and hope to fare better than May 7 in Chicago, when the Cubs dinged him for five runs in 5 2/3 innings.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, ABC 7 (Chicago), MASN (Washington), MLB Network

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cubs RH John Lackey (7-2, 2.63 ERA) vs. Nationals LH Gio Gonzalez (3-5, 3.93)

Lackey has posted eight straight quality starts and won his last three. The 37-year-old has been dominant in two starts this month, tossing 13 2/3 scoreless innings with 17 strikeouts, eight hits and two walks. Lackey is 2-0 with a 3.58 ERA in five starts against the Nationals.

Gonzalez has dropped four consecutive starts but is coming off a solid showing in Chicago against the White Sox. The 30-year-old struck out 10 and allowed three runs over seven innings last time out, but the Nationals scored two or fewer runs for the third time in his last four starts. Gonzalez is 3-2 with a 3.10 ERA in eight starts against the Cubs.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Cubs swept a four-game series from the Nationals in Chicago in May and had won six straight meetings before Monday.

2. Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo is 16-for-41 with three homers during a 10-game hitting streak, but he is 2-for-17 with four strikeouts versus Gonzalez.

3. Nationals RF Bryce Harper is 0-for-7 with three strikeouts against Lackey.

Preview: Mariners at Rays

GAME: Seattle Mariners (34-29) at Tampa Bay Rays (29-32)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, June 14 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, Florida
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Seattle Mariners just got through playing three straight series against teams currently leading their divisions and did not fare well with a 3-7 mark in those games. The Mariners will try to pick on a last-place club when they visit the Tampa Bay Rays for the opener of a three-game set on Tuesday.

Seattle split a four-game set with American League Central-leading Cleveland last week but sandwiched that with a pair of series losses against the team it is chasing in the AL West – the Texas Rangers. The Mariners took the opener from the Rangers 7-5 on Friday but watched the bats go silent the next two days before three runs in the final two innings on Sunday made the 6-4 setback slightly more palatable. The Rays own the best record of any last-place team at 29-32 and are creeping up on the .500 mark with wins in seven of their last nine games. Tampa Bay began its homestand by taking two of three from the Houston Astros but will not face another team with a current losing record until Fourth of July week against the Los Angeles Angels.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, ROOT (Seattle), FSN Sun (Tampa Bay)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mariners RH Taijuan Walker (3-6, 3.48 ERA) vs. Rays RH Jake Odorizzi (3-3, 3.47)

Walker ended a string of six straight losing decisions in emphatic fashion on Wednesday, when he scattered three hits and did not walk a batter while striking out 11 in eight scoreless innings to beat Cleveland. The 23-year-old had allowed 11 runs and 15 hits while fanning five in 9 1/3 innings over his previous two outings. Walker struck out nine against Tampa Bay on May 11 but was charged with four runs on five hits and three walks over 5 2/3 innings and did not factor in the decision.

Odorizzi has some trouble working deep into games and went more than five innings only twice in his last six starts. The 26-year-old ran up a high pitch count by striking out eight and walking three at Arizona on Wednesday but managed to pick up a win while allowing three runs in five innings. Odorizzi has always been sharp against Seattle and is 1-1 with a 0.52 ERA in three career starts.

WALK-OFFS

1. Mariners LF Nori Aoki (knee) was limited to pinch hitting on Sunday and is day-to-day.

2. Tampa Bay CF Desmond Jennings (quad tightness) left Sunday’s game and is day-to-day.

3. Seattle CF Leonys Martin homered five times in the last 11 games to boost his season total to 10 – twice as many as he hit all of last season.

GAME: Cincinnati Reds (25-39) at Atlanta Braves (18-45)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, June 14 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Turner Field, Atlanta, Georgia
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Julio Teheran collected two hits and a RBI in his last start, although the right-hander would benefit from someone else providing run support when he takes the mound for the Atlanta Braves in Tuesday’s home contest against the Cincinnati Reds. Teheran started the week receiving the third-lowest run support in the majors (2.31 per start), a big reason why the Atlanta ace has lost six of his eight decisions.

Atlanta’s anemic offense took advantage of Cincinnati’s struggling pitching staff to a certain extent in Monday’s 9-8 loss, as first baseman Freddie Freeman broke out of a 4-for-23 slump with three hits, including his 10th homer of the season. Cincinnati left fielder Adam Duvall hit his 12th homer (a two-run shot) since May 13 and is second in the National League with 18 blasts. Shortstop Zack Cozart finished with a single and a walk, raising his average to .284 as he fills in at the leadoff spot for injured center fielder Billy Hamilton. Reds manager Bryan Price told reporters Hamilton – who is on the seven-day concussion disabled list – is making process after being hit in the head while sliding into third base Wednesday against St. Louis.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, FSN Ohio (Cincinnati), FSN Southeast (Atlanta)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Reds LH Brandon Finnegan (2-4, 3.77 ERA) vs. Braves RH Julio Teheran (2-6, 2.85)

Finnegan has posted seven quality starts in 13 outings this season, but the Cincinnati bullpen has blown saves in three of his outings. The 23-year-old received a no-decision Thursday against the Cardinals, giving up two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts in seven innings, after 6 1/3 frames of one-run, five-hit pitching in a victory June 3 against Washington. Finnegan, who lost four consecutive decisions from April 21-May 29, makes his first career appearance against Atlanta.

Teheran has pitched far better than his record indicates, allowing two runs or fewer eight times in his past 10 starts and getting his second victory of the season by holding San Diego to two runs on five hits with eight strikeouts Wednesday. Starting with a victory at the Cubs on May 1, he has posted a 1.88 ERA while striking out 52 in 52 2/3 innings in an eight-start span. The 25-year-old is 2-1 with a 1.78 ERA in four career starts against the Reds.

WALK-OFFS

1. Hamilton, who was hitting .417 in June before the injury, can come off the disabled list on Thursday for the series finale.

2. Atlanta CF Ender Inciarte extended his hitting streak to seven games with a first-inning single Monday, and is batting .367 during the streak.

3. Braves LHP Eric O’Flaherty was placed on the disabled list with a right knee strain before Monday’s game. RHP Ryan Weber was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett, giving up two runs on three hits with a walk in one inning Monday.

Preview: Pirates at Mets

GAME: Pittsburgh Pirates (32-31) at New York Mets (34-28)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, June 14 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Citi Field, New York City, New York
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Pittsburgh Pirates have not won a game since opening last week with a doubleheader sweep of the New York Mets at home. The Pirates will try to end their five-game slide when they begin a tough six-game road trip with the first of three against the Mets on Tuesday.

Pittsburgh began a stretch of six straight series against teams with winning records by losing three in a row at home to the St. Louis Cardinals over the weekend and will travel to face the major league-leading Chicago Cubs starting on Friday before heading home to host a pair of National League West contenders -- Los Angeles and San Francisco. The Pirates are surrendering an average of 7.8 runs during the five-game losing streak and managed only seven runs of their own over the weekend against St. Louis. The Mets wrapped up a 5-5 road trip with a pair of losses at Milwaukee and share Pittsburgh’s trouble scoring runs. Injuries to regulars David Wright and Lucas Duda are creating constant change in the middle of the lineup, and recent acquisitions Kelly Johnson and James Loney were occupying the Nos. 4 and 5 spots in the order in Sunday's 5-3 loss.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, ROOT (Pittsburgh), SNY (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Pirates RH Juan Nicasio (5-5, 5.34 ERA) vs. Mets RH Jacob deGrom (3-2, 2.80)

Nicasio is the most likely candidate to get the ball on Tuesday but the Pittsburgh rotation is in a bit of a holding pattern with ace Gerrit Cole dealing with tightness in his triceps. The 29-year-old Dominican came on in relief in the 12th inning on Friday against the Cardinals and was ripped for six runs in the single frame to suffer the loss. Nicasio made his last start against the Mets on June 7 and earned the win by allowing one run on three hits while striking out seven in five innings.

DeGrom went up against Nicasio in that June 7 meeting and absorbed the loss despite yielding only three runs in six innings while striking out nine. The Stetson product recorded 19 strikeouts in 13 innings over his last two outings while walking two. DeGrom has yet to earn a win against the Pirates in his career, owning a 0-1 mark with a 2.33 ERA in three chances.

WALK-OFFS

1. Mets manager Terry Collins did not make the trip back with the team on Sunday and remained hospitalized in Milwaukee after feeling ill prior to the series finale.

2. Pittsburgh LF Starling Marte is 8-for-16 over his last four games to lift his batting average to .332.

3. Mets LF Michael Conforto (wrist) was limited to pinch hitting on Sunday and will be further examined in New York.

Preview: Orioles at Red Sox

GAME: Baltimore Orioles (36-26) at Boston Red Sox (36-26)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, June 14 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Fenway Park, Boston, Massachusetts
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Boston Red Sox and the visiting Baltimore Orioles will battle for three games with first place in the American League East on the line beginning on Tuesday at Fenway Park. Both clubs squandered an opportunity to enter the series with the lead when the Orioles fell at Toronto on Sunday and the Red Sox lost in Minnesota.

The two clubs got a day off on Monday to contemplate their respective crushing defeats, with Boston going down on a walk-off home run in the 10th inning and the Orioles leaving the tying run at third base in a 10-9 setback to the Blue Jays. The setback was the third straight for Baltimore, which allowed 30 runs in the four-game series at Toronto. The Orioles gave up a total of 29 runs in a four-game series at home against Boston bridging May and June but managed to slug their way to a pair of wins and take a 4-3 lead in the season series. The Red Sox are just 4-4 since leaving that series in Baltimore and are opening a 10-game homestand on Tuesday that includes visits from the Seattle Mariners and the Chicago White Sox.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, MASN 2 (Baltimore), NESN (Boston)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Orioles RH Chris Tillman (8-1, 3.01 ERA) vs. Red Sox LH David Price (7-3, 4.63)

Tillman bounced back from one of his worst starts of the season with one of his best on Wednesday against Kansas City, striking out nine without issuing a walk in 7 1/3 scoreless innings to earn the win. The 28-year-old allowed three home runs in each of his previous two starts but surrendered just one extra-base hit – a double – against the Royals. Tillman missed Boston the first two times around this season but is 9-3 with a 2.84 ERA in 18 career starts against the Red Sox.

Price is looking much more like the ace Boston paid him to be over the last month with a string of six straight quality starts. The former No. 1 overall draft pick was a tough-luck loser in San Francisco on Wednesday, when he was reached for two runs on three hits – two solo home runs – over eight innings in a game the Red Sox went on to lose 2-1. Price was knocked around for five runs in as many innings against Baltimore on April 11 and is 8-4 with a 2.90 ERA in 20 career starts against the Orioles.

WALK-OFFS

1. Red Sox 3B Travis Shaw is 1-for-22 over his last six games.

2. Baltimore 1B Chris Davis has homered in five straight games

3. Boston SS Xander Bogaerts went 10-for-15 in the three-game series in Minnesota to raise his AL-leading batting average to .359.

Preview: Tigers at White Sox

GAME: Detroit Tigers (32-31) at Chicago White Sox (32-32)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, June 14 - 8:10 PM EST
WHERE: U.S. Cellular Field, Chicago, Illinois
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Chicago White Sox have been buried in a deep decline but may have notched the type of dramatic victory that could spur a turnaround. The White Sox recovered from a seven-run deficit in the series opener against the visiting Detroit Tigers before rallying for a 10-9 win in 12 innings and hope to ride the momentum into Tuesday's middle contest of the three-game set.

Adam Eaton recorded four hits - including the game-winning single for Chicago, which got back to the .500 mark with the comeback victory. The White Sox got off to a 23-10 start before collapsing over the last five weeks, and Monday's victory was just their ninth in the last 31 games. The Tigers fell for just the third time in 11 contests and Victor Martinez (knee) was unable to start after undergoing an MRI exam, although he did pinch-hit in the 11th inning. "He's going to get treatment and hopefully we can knock this thing out without any major time being missed," Detroit manager Brad Ausmus told reporters while revealing the results displayed "no major structural issues."

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, FSN Detroit, CSN Chicago

PITCHING MATCHUP: Tigers RH Jordan Zimmermann (8-3, 3.30 ERA) vs. White Sox RH Miguel Gonzalez (1-1, 3.57)

Zimmerman had a three-start winning streak halted in his last turn, when he gave up seven runs and eight hits in 4 2/3 innings while losing to Toronto. It marked the second time in four outings he surrendered seven runs as an ERA that stood at 1.50 after seven starts has soared upward. Zimmerman defeated the White Sox on June 3, when he gave up two runs and five hits in 5 2/3 frames and is 2-0 with a 1.83 ERA in three career starts against Chicago.

Gonzalez defeated Washington in his last turn as he gave up one run and three hits in six innings. He made his lone relief appearance of the season against the Tigers on June 5, when he allowed one hit in 1 1/3 scoreless frames. Gonzalez repeatedly has struggled against Detroit as a starter and is 1-3 with a 7.76 ERA in seven career appearances (five starts) versus the Tigers.

WALK-OFFS

1. Tigers RHP Francisco Rodriguez had converted 19 consecutive save opportunities before allowing two runs in the ninth inning of Monday's contest.

2. Chicago 1B Jose Abreu has homered in back-to-back games for the first time this season.

3. Detroit 2B Ian Kinsler slugged the 34th leadoff homer of his career on Monday.

GAME: Cleveland Indians (35-28) at Kansas City Royals (33-30)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, June 14 - 8:15 PM EST
WHERE: Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City, Missouri
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Kansas City Royals are starting to mend the fences after a season-high eight-game losing streak threatened to send the world champions into a tailspin. The Royals look to win their fourth in a row on Tuesday when they play the second contest of a three-game series versus the visiting Cleveland Indians.

Whit Merrifield belted his first career homer and scored twice in Kansas City's 2-1 win on Monday to improve to 30-for-91 (.330) since being recalled from Triple-A Omaha on May 18. While the Royals won the opener of their seven-game homestand to improve to 20-7 at Kauffman Stadium, the Indians look to rebound from just their second loss in eight meetings with Kansas City when they send right-hander Josh Tomlin to the mound on Tuesday. Cleveland has won 17 of his last 20 starts, including nine of 11 this season to find itself atop the American League Central. Jason Kipnis launched a solo homer in the series opener and is a blistering 7-for-17 against Tuesday starter Chris Young.

TV: 8:15 p.m. ET, SportsTime Ohio (Cleveland), FSN Kansas City

PITCHING MATCHUP: Indians RH Josh Tomlin (8-1, 3.48 ERA) vs. Royals RH Chris Young (2-6, 6.37)

Tomlin won both of his starts versus Kansas City this season to improve to 8-4 against the division rival. The 31-year-old tossed six strong innings in a 5-4 victory on May 8 before allowing one run in 6 1/3 frames in a 7-1 triumph on June 4. Tomlin answered the latter start by surrendering a pair of solo homers in 6 1/3 innings of a no-decision against Seattle on Thursday.

Young's troubles with the home-run ball resurfaced on June 5, as he was taken deep four times in 4 2/3 innings of a 7-0 setback at Cleveland. Carlos Santana belted one of those homers, but he is just 3-for-14 in his career versus Young. The 36-year-old hurler has allowed 17 homers in 41 innings this season - with nine coming in his last two starts, albeit nearly a full month apart.

WALK-OFFS

1. Cleveland SS Francisco Lindor collected 14 hits in his previous seven games versus Kansas City before going 0-for-3 in the opener.

2. Royals CF Lorenzo Cain is 0-for-11 in his last three encounters with the Indians.

3. Kansas City has won seven in a row at home.

GAME: Houston Astros (30-35) at St. Louis Cardinals (35-28)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, June 14 - 8:15 PM EST
WHERE: Busch Stadium, St. Louis, Missouri
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The St. Louis Cardinals appear to have found their stride, ripping off five consecutive victories as they prepare to host the Houston Astros on Tuesday in the opener of a two-game interleague series. St. Louis has won seven of eight following a three-game sweep in Pittsburgh to move a season-best seven games over the .500 mark.

The Cardinals are 3-0 in interleague play as the kick off a stretch where 12 of the next 15 contests are against American League opponents -- with a three-game set against the National League Central-leading Chicago Cubs wedged between them. "Early in the season we didn't figure it out, but right now we are rolling," St. Louis catcher Yadier Molina told reporters after the Cardinals outscored Pittsburgh 22-7. The Astros also had seemingly turned things around by winning 11 of 13 contests, but they are 2-5 on a nine-game road trip after dropping two of three at Tampa Bay over the weekend. Houston right-hander Doug Fister, who has won his last five decisions, faces Cardinals lefty Jaime Garcia in the series opener.

TV: 8:15 p.m. ET, ROOT (Houston), FSN Midwest (St. Louis)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Astros RH Doug Fister (6-3, 3.34 ERA) vs. Cardinals LH Jaime García (4-5, 3.89)

Fister won his second consecutive start and is unbeaten in his last eight turns after allowing one run and seven hits over six innings in a victory at Texas on Wednesday. He also tossed six scoreless innings of four-hit ball in his previous outing, marking the 10th straight start that he permitted three runs or fewer. Nine of those have been quality starts for Fister, who is 3-0 with six earned runs allowed in his last four turns away from home.

Garcia had another abbreviated outing last time out, but managed to escape with a no-decision after he was shelled for five runs and a season-high 13 hits over 4 2/3 innings at Cincinnati. The Mexico native has failed to pitch beyond five innings in six of his last 10 starts, including a 2 1/3-inning debacle versus Arizona in his last home start on May 22. Jose Altuve is 6-for-13 against Garcia, who owns a 2-5 record and bloated 6.41 ERA in nine starts versus the Astros.

WALK-OFFS

1. Cardinals LF Matt Holliday was 6-for-8 with two homers and five RBIs in the last two games versus the Pirates.

2. Astros 2B Altuve is 9-for-18 during a five-game hitting streak and has multiple hits in six of his last eight contests.

3. Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter (finger), who is 11-for-26 with seven RBIs and eight runs in a seven-game hitting streak, sat out the past two contests.

GAME: New York Yankees (31-32) at Colorado Rockies (30-33)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, June 14 - 8:40 PM EST
WHERE: Coors Field, Denver, Colorado
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

A five-game winning streak nudged the New York Yankees over .500 and closer to first place in the American League East, but the momentum was stalled with consecutive losses over the weekend. The Yankees will try to get back on track when they kick off a six-game road trip with the first of two contests at the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night.

New York scored one run in each of its last two losses to the Detroit Tigers, but offensive help is on the way with the reported signing of former Mets first baseman Ike Davis, who is expected to join the team in Colorado. "He has a lot of power. Having a guy like him, a lefty bat, maybe off the bench, is important," Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran said of Davis, who fills a huge need with four New York first basemen currently on the disabled list. The Rockies rebounded from a 1-7 slide by winning six of their last eight after taking the final two games from visiting San Diego over the weekend. Left-hander Jorge De La Rosa makes his first start in three weeks for Colorado and will oppose Nathan Eovaldi, who hasn't lost since April 20.

TV: 8:40 p.m. ET, YES (New York), ROOT (Colorado)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Yankees RH Nathan Eovaldi (6-2, 4.42 ERA) vs. Rockies LH Jorge De La Rosa (2-4, 8.81)

Eovaldi has been fortunate to stretch his unbeaten streak to nine starts, settling for back-to-back no-decisions in his last two trips to the mound despite getting rocked for five runs over 5 1/3 innings in each. He was outstanding prior to those two ugly performances, permitting a total of seven runs during a five-start winning streak. Eovaldi is 2-2 with a 3.18 ERA overall versus the Rockies and owns a 1-1 mark and 1.47 ERA in three starts at Coors Field.

The Rockies are hoping a demotion from the rotation will turn around De La Rosa, who was 1-4 with a wretched 11.41 ERA in six starts before he was banished to the bullpen. The 35-year-old yielded one run in three relief appearances and was superb against Pittsburgh on Thursday, striking out five over four perfect innings. Beltran is hitless in nine at-bats versus De La Rosa, who sports a 3-0 record and 0.98 ERA in four career outings (three starts) against the Yankees.

WALK-OFFS

1. Yankees CF Jacoby Ellsbury is riding a five-game RBI streak overall and is 5-for-11 with six runs scored in three games versus Colorado.

2. Rockies 2B DJ LeMahieu is 11-for-26 with seven runs scored during a seven-game hitting streak.

3. Yankees 2B Starlin Castro is batting .316 (24-for-76) with four homers in 18 games at Coors Field.

GAME: Los Angeles Dodgers (33-32) at Arizona Diamondbacks (29-37)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, June 14 - 9:40 PM EST
WHERE: Chase Field, Phoenix, Arizona
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Arizona Diamondbacks aim for their fourth straight victory when they host the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday for the middle contest of their three-game set. Arizona improved to 4-3 on its nine-game homestand with a 3-2 triumph over Los Angeles in the series opener, with Jean Segura's RBI single in the fifth inning snapping a tie.

Segura finished with his second consecutive two-hit performance and third during his five-game hitting streak. The Dodgers have lost three in a row after beginning their six-game road trip with a one-run victory at San Francisco. Corey Seager scored both runs for Los Angeles, with one coming on a solo blast in the fifth inning that forged a 2-2 tie. The 22-year-old had not gone deep or driven in a run since recording a two-homer, four-RBI performance June 5 against Atlanta.

TV: 9:40 p.m. ET, SportsNet LA (Los Angeles), FSN Arizona Plus

PITCHING MATCHUP: Dodgers RH Kenta Maeda (5-4, 2.70 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks RH Archie Bradley (2-2, 5.22)

Maeda has bounced back from a stretch during which he yielded four runs in three consecutive starts, as he has given up a total of two earned runs in his last three outings. The 28-year-old from Osaka, Japan, was the victim of no run support Wednesday against Colorado, suffering the loss despite allowing just one run and five hits in 6 2/3 innings. Maeda, who recorded a career-high nine strikeouts versus the Rockies, settled for a no-decision against Arizona on April 12 after scattering five hits over six scoreless frames in his second major-league start.

Bradley is coming off a loss to Tampa Bay on Wednesday in which he surrendered four runs on five hits and four walks over 5 2/3 innings. The 23-year-old native of Oklahoma has issued three or more free passes in four of his five outings this season. Bradley made his major league debut against Los Angeles on April 11, 2015, allowing one hit over six scoreless frames en route to victory.

WALK-OFFS

1. Diamondbacks 1B Paul Goldschmidt has reached safely in 18 consecutive games.

2. Veteran OF Carl Crawford cleared waivers Monday and was released by Los Angeles, which is responsible for the $34 million that remains on his contract.

3. Arizona RHP Shelby Miller (finger) will make his second rehab start for Single-A Visalia on Tuesday.

Preview: Rangers at Athletics

GAME: Texas Rangers (39-25) at Oakland Athletics (27-36)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, June 14 - 10:05 PM EST
WHERE: Oakland Coliseum, Oakland, California
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Oakland Athletics were very happy to return home from a disastrous road trip and look to continue to take advantage of their surroundings when they continue their four-game series against the visiting Texas Rangers on Tuesday. Oakland dropped the first seven games of its trek to run its road losing streak to nine before salvaging the finale at Cincinnati on Sunday, and it picked up right where it left off at the Oakland Coliseum by posting a 14-5 victory over Texas.

Khris Davis homered and drove in five runs while posting one of seven multi-hit performances for the Athletics, who have won seven in a row at home. The Rangers dropped to 2-2 on their 10-game road trip as they allowed five runs in the first three innings after surrendering the same amount while winning back-to-back contests in Seattle over the weekend. Shin-Soo Choo returned from a stint on the disabled list with a strained hamstring and belted a solo homer, but Adrian Beltre missed his fifth straight game with an identical injury and may not return to the lineup until the series finale. "My decision is to be patient and target Thursday," Rangers manager Jeff Banister told the team's website. "He feels good. I just feel like, where we are at and how we're playing, (we should) maintain the thought process of slow-playing it."

TV: 10:05 p.m. ET, FSN Southwest (Texas), CSN California (Oakland)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rangers LH Martin Perez (5-4, 3.22 ERA) vs. Athletics LH Eric Surkamp (0-3, 6.41)

Perez has been perfect since losing at Oakland on May 18, winning four consecutive starts — all at home. The 25-year-old Venezuelan worked six innings in each outing, allowing a total of seven runs while serving up only two home runs. Perez hopes to for a better outcome than his last turn against the Athletics — an outing in which he yielded four runs and eight hits over a season-high seven frames.

Surkamp, who will be recalled from Triple-A Nashville, remains in search of his first victory since 2014 with the Chicago White Sox as he makes his seventh start of the season. The 28-year-old native of Cincinnati did not factor in the decision against Minnesota on May 31, when he yielded three runs and eight hits in 4 2/3 innings. Surkamp made his only career appearance versus Texas on Aug. 5, 2014, allowing one run on two hits and a walk in one inning of relief for Chicago.

WALK-OFFS

1. Athletics LHP Sean Manaea exited Monday's contest in the fifth inning with a strained left forearm, falling two outs shy of registering the victory.

2. Texas placed RHP Yu Darvish on the 15-day disabled list Monday with tightness and discomfort in his right shoulder while recalling LHP Alex Claudio from Triple-A Round Rock.

3. Oakland OF Josh Reddick took a step toward returning from a fractured thumb as he took 25 swings off a tee Monday, and he could take on-field batting practice by the end of the week.

Preview: Twins at Angels

GAME: Minnesota Twins (20-43) at Los Angeles Angels (27-37)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, June 14 - 10:05 PM EST
WHERE: Angel Stadium of Anaheim, Anaheim, California
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Minnesota Twins own the worst record in the American League, but they have found one team upon which they can beat. Minnesota rolled to a 9-4 victory over host Los Angeles in the opener of a three-game set and looks to defeat the Angels for the fifth consecutive time this season on Tuesday.

The Twins slugged three homers and set a season high for runs scored on Monday as the beating continued a recent trend for the Angels, who dropped into last place in the AL West. Los Angeles has lost seven of its last eight games - being outscored 55-27 during the stretch - and stands a season-worst 10 games below .500. Angels star Mike Trout served as the designated hitter after suffering a bruised right thumb when hit by a pitch on Sunday and is hoping to return to center field on Tuesday. Minnesota's Joe Mauer went 2-for-5 with two runs scored on Monday and has reached base in 25 consecutive games.

TV: 10:05 p.m. ET, FSN North (Minnesota), FSN West (Los Angeles)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Twins RH Ervin Santana (1-6, 4.77 ERA) vs. Angels RH Jhoulys Chacin (2-4, 4.83)

Santana spent his first eight major-league seasons with the Angels and will be facing his former team for only the third time. He is 1-1 with a 2.87 ERA and 0.77 WHIP in two career outings versus Los Angeles and has struggled against Yunel Escobar (7-for-19, four RBIs). Santana has lost four consecutive overall starts and has a dreadful 7.43 ERA during the stretch.

Chacin experienced his worst performance in six starts with the Angels last time out as he gave up five runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings against the New York Yankees. He is making his first home start since May 30, when he struck out 10 and yielded one run and four hits against the Detroit Tigers in his third career complete game. Chacin lost his lone career start against the Twins as he gave up two runs and seven hits in five innings while with Colorado in 2010.

WALK-OFFS

1. Angels 2B Johnny Giavotella homered while matching his career high of four hits in the opener.

2. Minnesota CF Byron Buxton is 2-for-24 over his last seven contests - with one of the hits coming Monday, when he belted his first homer of the season.

3. Los Angeles 1B Albert Pujols is 3-for-28 over the last seven games and has gone deep just once in his last 15 contests.

Preview: Marlins at Padres

GAME: Miami Marlins (33-31) at San Diego Padres (26-39)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, June 14 - 10:10 PM EST
WHERE: Petco Park, San Diego, California
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Ichiro Suzuki is one hit away from matching the all-time professional hits record held by Pete Rose as the Miami Marlins visit the San Diego Padres on Tuesday for the middle contest of their three-game series. Suzuki recorded three hits in Monday's 13-4 trouncing of the Padres to raise his overall total to 4,255, counting 1,278 during time playing in Japan.

Suzuki, who is just 23 hits away from 3,000 for his major-league career, also walked twice and scored three runs in the Marlins' romp. The 42-year-old no longer is an everyday player, but he's been red-hot with the bat by going 16-for-37 with nine runs scored over the past 13 games. San Diego right fielder Matt Kemp homered in the opener and is 7-for-12 while stringing together three consecutive multi-hit performances. The last-place Padres have lost four of their last five games and have fallen 13 games behind National League West leader San Francisco.

TV: 10:10 p.m. ET, FSN Florida (Miami), FSN San Diego

PITCHING MATCHUP: Marlins RH Tom Koehler (4-6, 4.36 ERA) vs. Padres LH Drew Pomeranz (5-6, 2.44)

Koehler won for the second time in three starts as he gave up two runs and four hits in six innings while beating Minnesota in his last turn. He has issued only one walk in each of his last two outings after giving up five in each of his previous four turns. Koehler is 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA in three career appearances (two starts) against the Padres.

Pomeranz struggled against Atlanta in his last turn, giving up three runs and nine hits in five innings while picking up the loss. He pitched seven scoreless innings in two of his previous three starts and has held opposing hitters to a .184 batting average. Pomeranz is 0-1 with a 4.32 ERA in two career starts against the Marlins.

WALK-OFFS

1. Slumping Marlins RF Giancarlo Stanton - who is 4-for-39 in June - sat out the opener and manager Don Mattingly said he will return to the lineup Tuesday.

2. San Diego OF Travis Jankowski (ankle) was injured in Monday's game and may be unavailable on Tuesday.

3. Miami SS Adeiny Hechavarria collected a season-best four RBIs in the opener.

Preview: Brewers at Giants

GAME: Milwaukee Brewers (30-34) at San Francisco Giants (39-26)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, June 14 - 10:15 PM EST
WHERE: AT&T Park, San Francisco, California
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Milwaukee pitcher Matt Garza may have preferred an easier matchup for his season debut, but the veteran right-hander appears set for his matchup Tuesday against the host San Francisco Giants and ace Madison Bumgarner. Garza, who has been sidelined all season due to a right lat strain, joins a Milwaukee team that opened a nine-game, 10-day road trip with Monday’s 11-5 loss to the Giants.

Bumgarner takes the mound riding a six-game winning streak for San Francisco, which is 22-8 since May 11 and leads the National League West by a season-high six games. Left fielder Angel Pagan (hamstring) is expected to be activated from the disabled list in time for Wednesday’s series finale, and the Giants have also reportedly explored the possibility of trading for Milwaukee outfielder Ryan Braun, who is batting .313 with 11 home runs and 36 RBI. Braun would be an immediate upgrade for a Giants lineup that will be without right fielder Hunter Pence (hamstring) until early August, but he figures to have multiple suitors. “It's impossible to completely avoid it, but I just don't waste much energy thinking about it because obviously most of it’s out of my control,” Braun told reporters. “I focus on the things I can control like trying to stay healthy, trying to stay on the field and continue to be productive.”

TV: 10:15 p.m. ET, FSN Wisconsin (Milwaukee), CSN Bay Area (San Francisco)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Brewers RH Matt Garza (2015: 6-14, 5.63 ERA) vs. Giants LH Madison Bumgarner (7-2, 1.88)

Garza is filling a spot in the rotation previously held by Wily Peralta, who was sent to Triple-A Colorado Springs after going 4-7 with a 6.08 ERA in 13 starts. The 32-year-old Garza, a native of California’s Central Valley, went 0-2 with a 4.76 ERA in three minor-league rehab starts for Class-A Wisconsin. Garza allowed five runs over five innings in a loss to San Francisco on May 26, 2015 and owns a 1-2 mark and 4.58 ERA in three career starts against the Giants.

Bumgarner is 6-0 with a 1.14 ERA, one complete game, 70 strikeouts and 17 walks over his last nine starts, and San Francisco is 10-3 when the 2014 World Series MVP takes the mound. The 26-year-old allowed one run on four hits while walking one and striking out five last Wednesday against Boston. Braun is 8-for-26 with two home runs against Bumgarner, who is 6-2 with a 2.25 ERA in nine career starts against Milwaukee, including three straight victories.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Giants have won seven of their last eight games against the Brewers at AT&T Park.

2. Milwaukee closer Jeremy Jeffress has not allowed a run or a walk in the 10 games he’s pitched on the road this season.

3. San Francisco OF Gregor Blanco singled in the seventh inning Monday to end an 0-for-27 skid.

Chicago @ Washington
Pick: Washington +116

The Chicago Cubs have been getting the headlines. But, the Washington Nationals have won four straight and are in first place in the NL East Division. They are 40-24 after beating the Cubs 4-1 on Monday in another Max Scherzer masterpiece. Gio Gonzalez comes off a good outing after suffering a rough patch allowing three runs and five hits in seven innings at the White Sox. The Cubs have split their last eight games which almost qualifies as a slump for the NL Central leaders while the Nationals have won seven of their last eight games. Washington has won five home games in a row and six of its last seven against right-handed starters. John Lackey is 7-2 with a 2.63 ERA and coming off seven shutout innings at Philadelphia but the value lies with red-hot Washington.
