Seattle vs. Colorado
Pick: Under 11

The set-up: The Seattle Mariners made it two straight wins with Monday's 6-5 victory in Coors. However, Seattle had dropped seven of eight games before posting those two straight wins. The series-opening victory leaves them six games below .500 (23-29) in a season in which they were expected to be playoff contenders (Seattle is already 13 games back in the AL West). More than 80 player moves and the use of 12 different starting pitchers has made life a challenge for Seattle manager Scott Servais. The Rockies have three losses in five games but the team which went 75-87 last year still boasts the best record (33-20) in the National League!

The pitching matchup: Ariel Miranda (4-2 & 4.22 ERA) will start for Seattle and Tyler Anderson (3-4 & 5.40 ERA) for Colorado. Miranda comes in pitching well, having allowed just four ERs over 17 innings in his past three outings with 21 strikeouts during the stretch (2.12 ERA but the team is just 1-2 in the three games). Miranda has never faced Colorado and has made just 20 career starts. He is 3-3 with a 5.66 ERA in 11 career road appearances (10 starts). Anderson has also pitched well of late, going 2-1 with a 2.55 ERA over his last four starts (Rockies are 2-2). Anderson will be facing Seattle for the first time and is 6-4 with a 3.50 ERA in 16 career starts against at Coors Field.

The pick: Anderson has pitched well in Coors (see above) and Seattle has averaged only 3.87 RPG on the road in 2017. Miranda also comes into this contest in good form and the Under will be no surprise.

Brewers at Mets
Pick: Over

Well the Mets has a rare "under" on Monday, only their 5th in their past 31 games, but that hardly gets us off of another "over" tonight vs. the Brewers. Especially since Terry Collins rolls the dice with rookie starter Tyler Pill, who was a bit unsteady in his debut, a short stint vs. the Pirates last Saturday. Meanwhile Milwaukee's Zach Davies has improved in May upon his poor April numbers, but still sports an ERA at 5.33.

SPORTS WAGERS

Seattle -1½ +215 over COLORADO

We’re not going to go into a lot of details here regarding the pitchers because it matters not when playing at Coors Field. We are going to commit to playing the underdog all season long at Coors Field on the ALTERNATIVE run line. What that means is that we are playing the remainder of Colorado’s home games this season and we’ll be playing the underdog in each game, whether it’s the Rocks or the opposition and we’ll be playing it regardless of who’s pitching. We’re suggesting that this wager has nothing but big profits in store. With totals being in the 10 to 12½ range daily at this venue, far more games are decided by two runs or more than one run and the underdog wins just as much as the favorite. The pitching matchups rarely matter because even the best get rocked at this park. We’ll keep a running record on this angle all season long.

Year to date:

10-14 + 12.78 units

Oakland +150 over CLEVELAND

The Indians have scored 15 runs the past two games while the A’s have lost 18 of 25 games on the road, thus setting up this inflated price.

Trevor Bauer has been a perpetual tease and chronic flop throughout most of his MLB career. Such has been the case so far in 2017 (6.30 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 50 IP). Some bad luck has victimized Bauer this year, as his high 35% hit rate, low 57% strand rate, and high 21% hr/f will attest to so there's some positive regression coming. Here’s where it gets interesting. Bauer has 59 K’s in 50 innings, which is elite and the books are putting too much emphasis on that. We’re seeing that his high strikeout rate does not have merit because his swing and miss rate is average at best (9%) and his first-pitch strike rate of 53% is awful. Trevor Bauer on his best day cannot be priced in this range over Sonny Gray.

After an electric 2015, in which he finished third in Cy Young voting, the future looked bright for Sonny Gray but 2016 ended with dimmed lights with injuries and poor performance all year. After a lat strain to start 2017 and struggling in his first two starts, Gray’s looked better recently. Much better. Gray struggled with walks in 2016, but that’s not been the case this year. His first-pitch strike of 63% and rising confirms he’s doing a fine job getting ahead of hitters. He’s also generating more swinging strikes. Gray is elite at inducing grounders (59%) too. He’s struck out 28 batters in his last 30 frames and his groundball rate over that span was 64%. Sonny Gray is quietly returning to the from that made him a Cy Young finalist in 2015 so the window to buy low on him is closing fast. Time will tell if this is the best bet on the board today but it has to be considered one of the best value plays of the season so far.

SAN DIEGO +127 over Chicago

We previewed Dinelson Lamet in our MLB call-ups section last week and will run that piece again here now:

The Padres will call up the 24-year-old from Triple-A and he’ll make his major league debut with a start today (Thursday, May 25). He could make multiple starts if all goes well initially. Lamet was signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2014 and has flown under the radar ever since despite posting impressive numbers at each level of the minors. Not only is he tough to make hard contact against, but he misses bats with two plus offerings in his 92-96 mph fastball and high-80s slider. Lamet has a tall, strong frame and can pitch downhill with his arm slot. His fastball also features late, tailing action which gives him high groundball tendencies. While he just started to use a change-up in 2016, it has shown promise and should become another decent pitch in his arsenal. Lamet has been effective against hitters from both sides, but he needs to seriously upgrade his command in order to exceed his lofty expectations. If he can get ahead in the count and rely on his slider, he could become a high strikeout pitcher in the majors. He is certainly worth watching and if the Mets had anyone but deGrom pitching today, we’d probably grab Lamet at this price. Lamet has a career 2.99 ERA, 3.8 BB’s/9 and 10.1 K’s in the minors.

STATS: El Paso (AAA) – 8 GS, 3-2 3.23 ERA, 39 IP, 4.6 BB’s/9, 11.5 K’s/9, 2 HR, .222 oppBA

Lamet was rock solid in that debut by going five full innings against the Mets in New York and allowing just three hits and one run while striking out eight batters. He was throwing 96 MPH heat in his debut with a 13% swing and miss rate and is certainly worth another wager here. We suggested last week that we would bet him had he not been opposing Jacob deGrom but as it turns out, deGrom was a late scratch and San Diego ended up winning that day.

Eddie Butler pitches for the Cubs. That makes him overvalued before a single pitch is even thrown. While pitching for the Cubbies adds value to every starter, this one is a big risk because he’s constantly behind in the count and walks more batters than he strikes out. Butler comes in with a 1.93 ERA after three starts but that’s a tiny sample size for a starter with a career 6.13 ERA previously. Butler’s 86% strand rate and 23% hit rate are both luck driven numbers that numbers that are unsustainable. This is a pitcher with 10 walks and nine K’s in 14 innings to go along with a below average 8% swing and miss rate. That Butler's ERA is elite is a nifty sleight-of-hand in light of his 1.82 xWHIP and wretched BB/K ratio. A correction to the bad in Butler’s ERA is forthcoming but more importantly, you are going to pay prices to back any starter on the Cubs and this one is the least worthy of them all.

Washington vs. San Francisco
Play: San Francisco -115

Washington will send out LH Gio Gonzalez who is winless in five May starts and has pitched six innings or fewer in four of the outings while compiling a 4.40 ERA for the month. The Nationals are 3-7 in their last 10 road games and 5-12 in Gonzalez's last 17 road starts. San Francisco hands the ball to RH Jeff Samardzija. The Giants are 7-3 in their last 10 home games, 4-1 in their last 5 during game 2 of a series and 3-7 in the last 10 meetings in San Francisco. San Francisco opened as -110 favorites and the line has risen to -118 in some spots even though nearly 60% of all bets are on Washington, indicating sharp money backing the Giants and so will we.

Oakland Athletics at Cleveland Indians
Play: Oakland Athletics +152

The Oakland Athletics continue to struggle bunches hits together and take their 22-28 record onto Progressive Field tonight with and American League dance against the Cleveland Indians and their 26-23 mark in 2017. The first pitch in this event is scheduled for 6:10 p.m. ET with A's righty Sonny Gray (2-1, 3.34 ERA) opposing Indians right-hander Trevor Bauer (4-4, 6.30).

There are a large number of subplots in this AL contest. Are the 26 win Tribe, runners-up in last October's Fall Classic fake news? The Indians have 11 of their 26 wins against the soft American League West while earning only 10 total wins on their home turf through the first two months of the season. MLB pundits ranked the Indians pitching staff as the AL best to begin the season but Bauer enters tonight's event with a 6.30 ERA. (10-13) as they continue a four-game series against the visiting Oakland Athletics on Tuesday night.

Ex-Blue Jay slugger Edwin Encarnacion, who signed as a free agent with the Indians in the offseason, ready to earn his paycheck? Encarnacion hit his 10th homer and extended his hitting streak to eight games in Monday's 5-3 win over the Athletics.

Oakland has the worst road record in the American League but send their top pitcher to the mound tonight in an effort to avenge Monday's loss vs. the Tribe. Gray dominated the Miami Marlins in his last start striking out 11 while surrendering just one run on three hits over seven innings. Previous to his solid turn against the Fish he struck out eight over six innings allowing three-runs in a win over the Boston Red Sox. The A's righty is also familiar with how to pitch the current Indians lineup. The A's ace is 2-1 with a 2.59 ERA in his career against Cleveland.

There are not many positives to attach to Bauer's performance this season. He failed in his last trip to the mound and while he was aiming to win his third straight in the turn against the Cincinnati Reds his numbers this season, both traditional and underlying, are putrid. Bauer's Achilles is Oakland’s strength. This isn't your fathers A's team that was selective at the plate and drew walks. No, this Oakland lineup has the power to go deep and the long ball has been Bauer's struggles. The Tribe righty has allowed 11 homers in his nine starts this year.

Bauer started the season with six starts in which he allowed four or more runs in five of those. You will occasionally get a strong outing from Bauer but he isn't just having a bad stretch he isn't hitting his spots, his heavy fly ball tendencies have increased by 10 percent this season and his swinging strike percentage has dropped nearly five percent.

Arizona at Pirates
Play: Under 8

In Arizona's Robbie Ray, we get a guy with the league's 6th-best K% (29.8%) among starters who have thrown at least 40 innings this season. That helps offset his 11.7% BB%. Ray is in excellent current form, as he has tossed 14 2/3 scoreless innings over his last two starts. He allowed just four hits in those two starts, both of which were on the road. Ray is at home on the road this season, as is evident by his home/road splits (6.75 ERA & 1.65 WHIP at home; 0.81 ERA & 0.84 WHIP on the road). Ray got tagged for 4 runs in 4 innings against these Pirates at home just 16 days ago, so I expect him to make the necessary adjustments against a Pirates team averaging just 3.3 runs per home game against lefties this season.

Ivan Nova opposed Ray in that 5/14 matchup in Arizona, allowing 3 runs on 9 hits in 6 innings. Nova does give up hits, but the damage is minimal due to two things: 1) His incredibly low 1.8% BB%; and 2) His 50.2% GB%, which puts him 24th out of 122 starters who have tossed at least 40 innings this season.

Neither bullpen is anything special. Not great, but not bad either. Nothing noteworthy in regards to current form.

We get Eric Cooper behind the plate tonight. Cooper shows a very strong Under bias. In fact, the Under is 24-10 with Cooper calling balls & strikes since the start of last season.

MLB | Yankees vs Orioles
Play on: Yankees -134 at GTBets

Yankees

The Baltimore Orioles still aren't lighting up the scoreboard, but at least they snapped their seven-game losing streak. The Orioles will try to make it two wins in a row when they host the New York Yankees in the second of a three-game series on Tuesday.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Yankees RH Luis Severino (3-2, 3.11 ERA) vs. Orioles RH Chris Tillman (1-1, 4.43)

Severino snapped a four-start winless streak with his best outing of the season on Wednesday, when he scattered four hits and one walk over eight scoreless innings while striking out seven against Kansas City. The Dominican Republic native has surrendered one or no runs in four of his last six outings and owns a total of 61 strikeouts in 55 innings.

Tillman is still trying to work himself into a rhythm after beginning the season on the disabled list and suffered his first loss Wednesday, allowing four runs and nine hits in five innings to Minnesota. The 2013 All-Star has logged a quality start in one of his four outings and has yet to record an out past the sixth inning. Tillman is 8-6 with a 4.63 ERA in 19 career starts against New York.

ASA Bonus Play on OVER the Total - Los Angeles Angels vs Atlanta Braves, Tuesday at 10:05 PM ET

The Braves hand the ball to Bartolo Colon for this one and he has given up 33 earned runs on 60 hits in his last 36 innings. The most concerning thing about those numbers is all the hits as the fact is that Colon is getting hit hard in each and every outing he makes. The fact that Mike Trout is now out for the Angels is adding even more line value here for his over because it is holding it lower than it should be. Look at it this way...none of those 60 hits in 36 innings came off of Trout's bat! Colon is 44 years old and the fact is that he can no longer consistently retire major league hitters. In fact, father time has caught up with Colon and it's time for him to retire! The Angels will have Parker Bridwell toeing the rubber in this one. He is young enough to be Colon's soon and the 25-year old is making his first ever major league start. In limited MLB action in the 2016 season and in spring training of 2016 and 2017 Bridwell has not fared too well against major league hitters and the Braves have averaged 10.4 hits per game in their last 7 games. The Angels haven't scored well in their last 2 games but previously they had scored 5 runs or more in 7 of their last 12 games and certainly facing Colon is likely to bring out the best in them in this match-up! The over is 7-2 in Colon's last 9 starts. The over is 23-11 in Braves night games and 6-1 in their inter-league games this season. Angels inter-league games have also gone 5-2 to the over this season. We see every reason to expect a wild one in Anaheim tonight! Bet the OVER in the Los Angeles Angels game in late night West Coast action Tuesday!

My free winner for tonight is on the New York Yankees over the Baltimore Orioles, as the American League East rivals get together in Oriole Park to continue their series.

And I want you listing the scheduled starters, because I think we're going to see Luis Severino best Chris Tillman in this game.

Severino comes in having allowed three or fewer runs in each of his past four starts, and has allowed more than four runs this season just one time. He's pitching well for the pinstripes, and comes in after pitching eight shutout innings while striking out seven in his last outing, against the Royals.

The Orioles hand the ball to Tillman, who has struggled in his first four starts, lasting only 20.1 innings for the season. In his most recent start, against the Minnesota Twins, he could only go five innings, during which he was touched for nine hits and four runs.

I'll play the Bronx Bombers tonight.

4* YANKEES (Severino over Tillman)

Oakland at Cleveland
Play: Under 9

Cleveland's Trevor Bauer has always been a guy that at times can't get out of his own way. But there's no denying that he's got above average MLB stuff. Bauer has been on the unlucky side of things this season with a .328 BABIP and 65% LOB rate. He's also allowed home runs on over 22% of his fly balls. Despite that, his strikeout rate is north of 10 and his walk rate is right on par with his career average. All of this of course plays out in Bauer's sky high ERA (6.30) and above average xFIP (3.42). It’s tough to label and Cleveland pitcher as “bet on” due to the Indians’ inflated status in the betting markets but Bauer has better days on the horizon. After throwing a ton of innings in college and back-to-back 200+ innings his second and third seasons for the A's, I think Sonny Gray benefited from having an abbreviated 2016 (117 IP). He started the season on the DL but looks to be at full strength with 19 strikeouts and 31 swinging strikes in his last two starts. I really see both starters as being a bit undervalued at this point -- and both with the capabilities to shut down the opposing team's offense. Total hovering around 8.5/9. Worth it in my opinion to seek out that key 9 and play under.

Arizona vs. Pittsburgh
Pick: Pittsburgh +100

Pittsburgh defeated the Diamondbacks on Monday to improve to 14-11 at home and Arizona falls to 10-14 on the road. The Pirates have won Ivan Nova's last three starts and he is 5-3 with a 2.83 ERA on the season, including 3-1 and 2.39 at home. The Diamondbacks are near the bottom in every offensive category in road games as compared to hitter-friendly Chase Field. Robbie Ray faced the Pirates on May 14 and gave up four runs on six hits in four innings as Pittsburgh won 6-4. The Pirates have won the last three meetings and seven of the last nine and the Diamondbacks are currently on a three-game losing streak while being outscored 19-9. Also, Pittsburgh has won 52 of its last 74 games against NL West teams and has beaten Arizona six straight at PNC Park.

COLORADO (-140) over Seattle

Tonight we will back the Rockies and starting pitcher, Tyler Anderson. He has pitched well of late going 2-1 with a 2.55 in his last four starts. Colorado has dropped 2 straight but own the majors best record and have won 6 of their last 9 while Seattle comes in winners of 2 straight but had lost 9 of their last 10 prior to that. We think tonight game reverts back to both teams earlier form and the Rockies roll!
