GAME: Seattle Mariners (23-29) at Colorado Rockies (33-20)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, May 30 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Coors Field, Denver, Colorado

The Seattle Mariners are showing signs of life with consecutive victories and look to post their third in a row when they visit the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday. Seattle dropped seven of eight games before posting two straight wins, which included Monday's 6-5 victory over the Rockies.

The series-opening victory leaves the Mariners six games below .500 in a season in which they were expected to be playoff contenders but more than 80 player moves and the use of 12 different starting pitchers has had an effect on those projections. "It's a great challenge. You are trying to create team environment and closeness, and it's hard," Seattle manager Scott Servais told reporters. "It's unheard of at this time of the season." The Rockies are in a mini-slump with three losses in five games but boast the best record (33-20) in the National League. Colorado left fielder Gerardo Parra is 6-for-8 with one homer, two doubles and five RBIs over the past two games.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, ROOT (Seattle, Colorado)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mariners LH Ariel Miranda (4-2, 4.22 ERA) vs. Rockies LH Tyler Anderson (3-4, 5.40)

Miranda defeated the Washington Nationals in his last turn when he allowed two runs and three hits in five innings. The 28-year-old Cuban has allowed just four runs in 17 innings over his past three outings with 21 strikeouts during the stretch. Miranda is 3-3 with a 5.66 ERA in 11 career road appearances (10 starts).

Anderson has pitched well of late and is 2-1 with a 2.55 ERA over his last four starts. The 27-year-old received a no-decision against the Philadelphia Phillies in his last turn when he gave up one run and six hits over seven innings. Anderson is 6-4 with a 3.50 ERA in 16 career starts against at Coors Field.

WALK-OFFS

1. Mariners 1B Danny Valencia went 3-for-5 on Monday to extend his hitting streak to seven games.

2. Colorado RF Carlos Gonzalez is 0-for-11 with an RBI over his past four games.

3. Seattle DH Nelson Cruz, who went 0-for-4 Monday, will again play RF with the game being in a NL ballpark.

Preview: Rays at Rangers
GAME: Tampa Bay Rays (28-26) at Texas Rangers (25-27)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, May 30 - 8:05 PM EST
WHERE: Globe Life Park in Arlington, Arlington, Texas

The Tampa Bay Rays’ offense showed no signs of fatigue in the series opener and looks to stay hot when the team takes on the host Texas Rangers in the middle contest of their three-game series on Tuesday. The Rays have played 10 hours, 14 minutes of baseball in their last two games after outlasting Minnesota 8-6 in 15 innings on Sunday and rallying for an inspiring 10-8 triumph at Texas a night later.

Steven Souza Jr. and Corey Dickerson have been lethal the last two games, recording seven hits apiece while combining to score seven runs as Tampa Bay improved to 9-3 on the road this month after winning just three of 13 away from home in April. The Rays will need some length to rest a tired bullpen as Matt Andriese attempts to win his fifth consecutive decision when he opposes Nick Martinez on Tuesday. The Rangers lost for the sixth time in seven games despite taking an early 4-1 lead on Monday, but they did welcome the return of Adrian Beltre, who went 1-for-5 in his season debut after struggling with a calf injury. Texas slugger Joey Gallo homered for the second straight game and the ninth time this month in the series opener to push his season total to 16.

TV: 8:05 p.m. ET, FSN Sun (Tampa Bay), FSN Southwest (Texas)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rays RH Matt Andriese (5-1, 3.24 ERA) vs. Rangers RH Nick Martinez (1-3, 4.69)

Andriese continued to solidify his spot in the rotation with his best start last time out against the Los Angeles Angels, allowing six hits and two walks in eight scoreless innings. The 27-year-old Californian has limited six of his last nine opponents to two or fewer runs and has not permitted more than six hits since his season debut. Beltre is 5-for-8 with a homer versus Andriese, who is 0-2 with a 6.28 ERA in three career starts against Texas.

Martinez gave up four runs and seven hits in five innings of a loss at Boston last time out after posting his first victory of the season at Detroit six days earlier. The 26-year-old Fordham product has completed at least five innings in all seven starts this season, but opponents are batting .273 against him overall. Logan Morrison (0-for-10, one walk) has struggled against Martinez, who is 0-0 with a 5.25 ERA in three career appearances versus the Rays.

WALK-OFFS

1. Texas 2B Rougned Odor has hit safely in eight straight games, going 9-for-33 in that stretch to raise his average to .211.

2. Tampa Bay OF Colby Rasmus is 7-for-18 with a pair of homers and nine RBIs during his six-game hitting streak.

3. Rangers RF Nomar Mazara recorded two doubles and a single Monday for his fourth multi-hit performance in his last seven contests.

Preview: Red Sox at White Sox
GAME: Boston Red Sox (27-23) at Chicago White Sox (24-26)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, May 30 - 8:10 PM EST
WHERE: Guaranteed Rate Field, Chicago, Illinois

The Chicago White Sox began a rebuilding effort over the winter, and the biggest move centered around shipping ace Chris Sale to the Boston Red Sox for a slew of prospects. Sale will return to Chicago for the first time and face off against his former team when the Red Sox visit for the second of a three-game series on Tuesday.

Sale is a Cy Young contender for Boston but the White Sox are happy with their haul in that deal, which included consensus top prospect second baseman Yoan Moncada and right-hander Michael Kopech, who regularly reaches 100 miles per hour with his fastball and ranks as one of the top pitching prospects in the minors. The White Sox remain stuck in between as a franchise, with several top prospects on the way and a roster full of veterans like Todd Frazier, Jose Abreu, James Shields, Jose Quintana and Melky Cabrera looking to win now. Quintana will try to bounce back from one of the worst outings of his career when he goes up against fellow southpaw Sale on Tuesday. The White Sox are on a roll with four wins in five games, while the Red Sox have dropped two straight following a six-game winning streak.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, NESN (Boston), CSN Chicago

PITCHING MATCHUP: Red Sox LH Chris Sale (5-2, 2.34 ERA) vs. White Sox LH Jose Quintana (2-6, 4.82)

Sale leads the majors with 101 strikeouts but had a string of eight straight starts logging double-digit punchouts come to an end when he struck out six in a win over Texas on Wednesday. The five-time All-Star allowed four runs - three earned - on six hits in 7 1/3 innings but finally got some support from his offense and earned the win in a 9-4 triumph. Sale should be familiar with the mound at Guaranteed Rate Field, where he is 42-24 with a 3.01 ERA in his career.

Quintana allowed one run on one hit over eight innings at Seattle on May 19 but could not match that effort Wednesday while getting crushed in Arizona. The Colombia native was rocked for eight runs on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings as his ERA jumped nearly a full run from 3.92 to 4.82. Quintana is undefeated in his career against Boston, building up a 3-0 record with a 2.87 ERA in seven starts.

WALK-OFFS

1. Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia will return to Boston for an MRI on his wrist after leaving Monday's game following a collision with White Sox 1B Jose Abreu.

2. Cabrera is 4-for-8 with two home runs and five RBIs in his last two games.

3. Boston RHP Carson Smith (elbow surgery) threw a bullpen session on Sunday and is scheduled for another on Tuesday.

Preview: Astros at Twins
GAME: Houston Astros (36-16) at Minnesota Twins (26-21)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, May 30 - 8:10 PM EST
WHERE: Target Field, Minneapolis, Minnesota

The Houston Astros parlayed a scintillating outburst into a victory in the series opener and aim to defeat the Minnesota Twins again on Tuesday in the middle contest of a three-game set. Houston used an 11-run eighth-inning uprising to rally for a 16-8 win on Monday and will be looking for its sixth straight victory.

Designated hitter Carlos Beltran went 4-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs and shortstop Carlos Correa went 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs as the Astros racked up a season-high 18 hits in the opener. Houston boasts the best record in the majors (36-16) and is 20 games above .500 before the season is one-third over. Minnesota is just 1-3 to start a six-game homestand and has allowed 32 runs during the stretch. Twins third baseman Miguel Sano slugged his 12th homer in the opener but is just 2-for-20 over the past six games.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, ROOT (Houston), FSN North (Minnesota)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Astros RH Mike Fiers (1-2, 5.21 ERA) vs. Twins RH Jose Berrios (3-0, 1.66)

Fiers received a no-decision against Detroit in his last turn when he gave up four runs (three earned) and 10 hits over 4 2/3 innings. The 31-year-old owns a swollen 6.38 ERA in five road starts and is 1-0 despite serving up 11 homers in just 24 innings. Fiers, who is 3-1 with a 3.16 ERA in seven career appearances (six starts) versus Minnesota, has given up 18 total homers - tied for most in the majors.

Berrios has been superb in his three big-league starts this season by allowing just eight hits while striking out 22 in 21 2/3 innings. The 23-year-old gave up one run and four hits in 15 1/3 innings while winning his first two starts before defeating Baltimore - giving up three runs and four hits in 6 1/3 innings - in his last outing. Berrios, who turned 23 on Saturday, is 1-1 with an 8.59 ERA and 2.32 WHIP in two career starts against the Astros and has been hit hard by George Springer (3-for-4, one homer).

WALK-OFFS

1. Twins 1B Joe Mauer is 11-for-27 with six walks over his past six contests.

2. Houston UTIL Marwin Gonzalez is 8-for-15 with a homer and six RBIs over his last four games.

3. Minnesota CF Byron Buxton (lacerated ring finger) departed Monday's game and is uncertain for Tuesday.

Preview: Tigers at Royals
GAME: Detroit Tigers (24-27) at Kansas City Royals (21-29)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, May 30 - 8:15 PM EST
WHERE: Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City, Missouri

The Kansas City Royals need to find a way to keep the opposition's offense in check, and they put their trust in an unknown Tuesday as they continue their three-game series against the visiting Detroit Tigers. Kansas City's pitching staff has imploded of late, surrendering 10 runs apiece in back-to-back losses, as it turns to left-hander Eric Skoglund, who makes his major-league debut.

The Royals squandered 3-0 and 7-6 leads in Monday's 10-7 setback but received a huge offensive performance from Whit Merrifield, who finished a single shy of the cycle as he extended his hitting streak to 14 games. Detroit used a pair of huge innings to post its second win in six contests and improve to 3-6 on its 11-game road trip. Andrew Romine continued his surge at the plate, recording his third two-hit performance during a five-game hitting streak, while Jose Iglesias improved to 9-for-23 over his last six contests with a three-hit effort. Miguel Cabrera appears to be heating up for Detroit as he has collected four RBIs in his last two games after a six-game drought to begin the road trip.

TV: 8:15 p.m. ET, FSN Detroit, FSN Kansas City

PITCHING MATCHUP: Tigers RH Justin Verlander (4-3, 4.87 ERA) vs. Royals LH Eric Skoglund (NR)

Verlander escaped with a no-decision at Houston on Thursday after surrendering six runs and nine hits in 5 2/3 innings. The outing marked the first time in six turns the 34-year-old Virginian did not work at least six frames. Verlander owns a 22-9 record - his highest victory total against any opponent - with two complete games, one shutout and a 3.23 ERA in 41 career starts versus Kansas City.

Skoglund will be brought up from Triple-A Omaha in the wake of the injury to Danny Duffy, who is expected to miss 6-to-8 weeks with an oblique strain. The 24-year-old Skoglund has gone 2-3 with one complete game and a 4.53 ERA in eight starts for the Storm Chasers this season. The Floridian also had one outing with Double-A Northwest Arkansas, allowing one run on five hits and three walks over 3 1/3 frames of a no-decision.

WALK-OFFS

1. Royals 1B Eric Hosmer has recorded only three RBIs over his last 15 contests on two home runs.

2. Detroit OF J.D. Martinez belted a three-run homer Monday, matching his RBI total from the previous 10 games.

3. Kansas City recalled Kevin McCarthy and optioned fellow RHP Miguel Almonte to Omaha.

Preview: Braves at Angels
GAME: Atlanta Braves (22-27) at Los Angeles Angels (26-28)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, May 30 - 10:07 PM EST
WHERE: Angel Stadium of Anaheim, Anaheim, California

The Los Angeles Angels did not fare well in the first game of an extended period of time without Mike Trout but hope to even their three-game interleague series against the visiting Atlanta Braves on Tuesday. The Angels hit three home runs in Monday's opener, but all were solo shots as they dropped a 6-3 decision for their fifth loss in six contests.

Los Angeles will be without Trout for 6-8 weeks as the star outfielder has decided to undergo surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb, which he suffered at Miami on Sunday. Atlanta evened its record at 2-2 on its nine-game road trip Monday with a six-run third inning that featured two-run doubles by Matt Adams and Danny Santana. Adams has recorded six RBIs in nine games since being acquired from St. Louis and has hit safely in six of his last eight contests. Ender Inciarte has hit safely in eight of his last nine games and 14 of 16 after going 2-for-4 in the opener.

TV: 10:07 p.m. ET, FSN Southeast (Atlanta), FSN West (Los Angeles)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Braves RH Bartolo Colon (2-5, 6.96 ERA) vs. Angels RH Parker Bridwell (NR)

Every start by Colon could be his last, as he has been pounded for seven or more hits in each of his last seven outings and yielded five or more runs four times in that span. The 44-year-old Dominican suffered his fourth loss in five decisions on Thursday, when he was tagged for seven runs on 10 hits and three walks over five innings. Colon, who hasn't made it out of the sixth frame since April 21 at Philadelphia, is 12-7 with five complete games, four shutouts and a 3.57 ERA in 24 career starts against the Angels.

Bridwell will be summoned from Triple-A Salt Lake to make his first major-league start in place of the injured Alex Meyer (back spasms). The 25-year-old went 2-1 with a 0.92 ERA in four appearances (three starts) with the Bees this season and 0-1 with a 2.00 mark in three turns for Double-A Mobile. Acquired from Baltimore in April, Bridwell yielded five runs and five hits - two homers - over 3 1/3 innings in two relief outings with the Orioles last season.

WALK-OFFS

1. Angels DH Albert Pujols went deep Monday and is now two blasts away from becoming the ninth player in major-league history to reach the 600-homer plateau.

2. Atlanta RHP Josh Collmenter, who went 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA in 11 relief appearances, was sent outright to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday - four days after being designated for assignment.

3. Los Angeles purchased the contract of OF Eric Young Jr. from Salt Lake to replace Trout on the roster and transferred LHP Tyler Skaggs (oblique) to the 60-day disabled list.

Preview: Cubs at Padres
GAME: Chicago Cubs (25-25) at San Diego Padres (20-33)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, May 30 - 10:10 PM EST
WHERE: Petco Park, San Diego, California

Although they are only 1 1/2 games out of the National League Central lead, the Chicago Cubs’ struggling offense is cause for concern. The defending World Series champions hope to break out of a recent slump when they play the second of a three-game road series against the San Diego Padres on Tuesday.

Hunter Renfroe’s grand slam powered the Padres to a 5-2 win in Monday’s series opener, sending Chicago to its fourth straight loss to begin a six-game West Coast trip. The Cubs are 1-for-24 with runners in scoring position during their four-game skid, and they’ve left 31 men on base. Four San Diego relievers combined for five hitless innings Monday, as the Cubs scored on Jason Heyward’s two-run single in the first before being shut out the rest of the way. The four-game losing streak matches the longest of the season for the Cubs, who haven’t lost five straight since July 5-9.

TV: 10:10 p.m. ET, CSN Chicago Plus, FSN San Diego

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cubs RH Eddie Butler (2-0, 1.93 ERA) vs. Padres RH Dinelson Lamet (1-0, 1.80)

Butler is making a strong bid to remain in the rotation, as he has allowed just three runs over 14 innings in his first three outings with the Cubs. The 26-year-old battled some control problems in his second start (five walks in three frames), but he rebounded Thursday to hold San Francisco to one run and four hits over five innings and earn his second win. Butler is 0-2 with a 5.68 ERA in three games (two starts) against the Padres, all at Petco Park.

Lamet was impressive in his major-league debut Thursday in New York against the Mets, striking out eight and allowing one run and three hits over five innings. The 24-year-old native of the Dominican Republic gave up a solo homer to Lucas Duda but was nearly unhittable otherwise. Lamet has averaged more than a strikeout per inning throughout his minor-league career and fanned 50 over 39 frames across eight starts at Triple-A El Paso before being called up.

WALK-OFFS

1. Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo was hit by a pitch for the 11th time Monday, three more than any other player in the majors.

2. Padres 1B Wil Myers has struck out 19 times in 42 plate appearances over his last 10 games.

3. San Diego rookie OF Allen Cordoba is 9-for-26 during a six-game hitting streak and batting .358 over his past 16 games.

Preview: Nationals at Giants
GAME: Washington Nationals (31-19) at San Francisco Giants (22-31)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, May 30 - 10:15 PM EST
WHERE: AT&T Park, San Francisco, California

Tension will fill the ballpark on Tuesday when the Washington Nationals visit the San Francisco Giants in the middle contest of a three-game set. Washington won the opener 3-0 in a Memorial Day contest in which Nationals star Bryce Harper charged the mound after Giants reliever Hunter Strickland plunked him in the right hip with a pitch in the eighth inning.

Harper launched two mammoth long-distance homers off Strickland in the 2014 postseason and Monday's at-bat marked the first time they faced one another since those blasts. "It is so in the past that it is not even relevant anymore," Harper told reporters afterward. "They won the World Series that year. I don't think he should he thinking about what happened in the first round. He should be thinking about wearing that ring home every single night. I don't know why he did it." Washington first baseman Ryan Zimmerman went 3-for-4 with a homer on Monday and is 6-for-11 over the past three games to raise his average to .374 - second in the National League. The struggling Giants have dropped five of their last seven contests and are 11 games behind the first-place Colorado Rockies in the NL West.

TV: 10:15 p.m. ET, ESPN, MASN2 (Washington), NBCSN Bay Area (San Francisco)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Nationals LH Gio Gonzalez (3-1, 2.90 ERA) vs. Giants RH Jeff Samardzija (1-6, 4.50)

Gonzalez is winless in five May starts and has pitched six innings or fewer in four of the outings while compiling a 4.40 ERA for the month. The 31-year-old received a no-decision against the Seattle Mariners in his last turn when he struck out eight and gave up two runs and three hits over 5 1/3 innings. Gonzalez is 4-4 with a 2.94 ERA in 11 career starts against the Giants and has struggled with Aaron Hill (8-for-21).

Samardzija lost to the Chicago Cubs in his last turn when he allowed three runs and six hits over seven innings. The 32-year-old has struck out at least eight in each of his past five turns, totaling 44 in 36 2/3 innings during the stretch. Samardzija is 2-5 with a 3.83 ERA in 14 career appearances (seven starts) against the Nationals and has dominated Zimmerman (1-for-19).

WALK-OFFS

1. Giants UTIL Eduardo Nunez (concussion) sat out Monday one day after being injured.

2. Washington INF Stephen Drew (hamstring) was activated from the disabled list and LHP Matt Grace was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse.

3. San Francisco 2B Joe Panik is mired in a 1-for-22 drought.
