I agree it is annoying too. I think Vitt is a decent dude but he is 1 hardheaded MF'er. At some point you just have to throw your hands up and say it isn't worth the time though. We couldn't even explain to him the fixed odds of blackjack on the mainboard. It's just how he is. He isn't really alone in this regard. Some people you just can't tell anything to. They've had it all figured out since they were 14.

Just think it is unhealthy to care so much.

There isn't one person that spends less time here because of me. That's a total lie. When I wasn't here for a year there were tumbleweeds in here most days.

I understand the blackjack thing....it's a personal preference that I don't use surrender. Why don't people understand there is more than one way to do something?

I definitely think people spend less time in the poli forum because of the bickering. Not just you but ALL of the bickering. A lot of the posters on this site that I like only post in the poli forum periodically because it is basically a giant cesspool. I think this is an interesting election/time period in America so I'd like to post more but it is rather futile given the nature of the board.

No need to revisit but that's not exactly what I said on the blackjack thing.

I think it goes like this. There are about 2-3 dems here....2 which are here periodically and me. There are 5-6 total fucking right wing wackos and there are 4-5 who are just right wing. And 2-3 who are in the middle. So on any given day, I could be replying to a number of people whereas they are replying to one....that's what makes it a cesspool.

I could go my entire posting life without ever responding to the likes of a sheriff Joe.....could he do the same? No, he can't.

Winning and losing left forumville years ago. So there's no point to posting unless you find another way to make it enertaining or profitable. For me it's to keep my wit sharp, draw a laugh or two, etc. Works or me. Occasionally there are other benefits, like great medical advice from Ricboff, or that amazing homemade salsa recipe AceBB sent me.

But even the dumb and lenghty arguments I get into like the Iran thing with Guesser, I learn something from. Mainly, NEVER to repeat them! You have to grow from things, and move on from them. Not stay stuck in negative patterns. Winning and losing isn't that important. Being right might be important at certain times. But you don't really need to prove it. You just think you do.

Here is really the main thing to consider. If you look at many of the bumped threads when Sheriff Joe's name was Joe Contrarian......it was the same bullshit with him..... this goes back years and years before I was here. There is a reason he was banned here and at other internet sites.

I've come to accept that when someone throws cyberdirt at Vit, even if it's cyberdirt the rest of the forum doesn't even care about or consider worthy of a response, Vit is going to fire back at the offender, and then remove said dirt from himself. I think you may be overestimating my power. I am persuasive but I only have the carrot. The mods have the stick but we don't really want to get them involved either. Can't make this sideroom a PITA for them. I think you're also overestimating mine and everyone else's attention span. When you get into a spat....wait, put you aside for a moment. When any 2 posters get into a lengthy back and forth where they become the topic instead of the topic itself.... As they continually go at each other many of us start scrolling. So when we don't "call someone out" it's either because we missed the offense or feel powerless to do anything about it. If I spot an obvious offense I'll mention it. But the best thing I can do for moving things along in a positive direction is what I'm doing right now, which is trying to persuade the combatants of the futility and wasted energy of fighting the unwinnable war. I'd rather be posting an 11th reason to vote Republican yet here we are

I hear ya. I think posters who post picks and win or even if they lose....and then get bashed by an idiot who posts 5 losers lifetime.....is an obvious offense. And should be shouted down by everyone. But that's my opinion.

That said, I think the fact that Joe is unable to even agree to knock off the dumb shit and simply don't acknowledge other posters is very telling. Like I said, he couldn't do it with akp either. The guy has been a cancer for a decade and I know the "normal" people understand this but would rather not get involved.....but it would go a long way to get things under control here.
