42. There would be no more putting your mother and your father in a nursing home...it would be law that they would stay with their children and their children would be required to take care of them.

43. The land that was left after the deportation of those who could not or would not stay...would be divided up and given to those whose could and would stay...and by law could never ever be sold or anything borrowed against it...but must be handed down from generation to generation equally to their children. There fore americans would always no matter what have a place of their own to live.

We're talking Hawaii now, right?

Of course.

There's the God who is one really self-centered, insecure meglomaniac type and is all about swallowing up humans in earthquakes, drowning babies in giant floods and of course sending plagues of locusts, frogs and rivers of blood down on Egyptians for their worshiping the Sun.

And then there's the all loving, all forgiving God of the New Testament who hangs out with prostitutes, thieves, poor people and other sinners.

I don't want to fuck this up and sign up with the wrong one.

New Testament God strikes down two people dead in Acts 5. FYI.

Acts 5

Ananias and Sapphira

1Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property. 2With his wife's full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles' feet. 3Then Peter said, "Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? 4Didn't it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn't the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied to men but to God."
5When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard what had happened. 6Then the young men came forward, wrapped up his body, and carried him out and buried him.
7About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8Peter asked her, "Tell me, is this the price you and Ananias got for the land?"
"Yes," she said, "that is the price."
9Peter said to her, "How could you agree to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also."
10At that moment she fell down at his feet and died. Then the young men came in and, finding her dead, carried her out and buried her beside her husband. 11Great fear seized the whole church and all who heard about these events.

So two people have heart attacks and now you have them down as victims of Divine Homicide?

And some say my personal interpretations of Christianity are kooky.....

Well I guess it's possible for all of us to evolve into more peaceful beings given sufficient counseling and support from our fellows.

Another New Testament passage to ponder:

Revelation 20

The Dead Are Judged

11Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. 12And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. 13The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. 14Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

That John is proof positive that use of strong hallucinogenics was not only encouraged, but embraced with enthusiasm by the science fiction authors of his day.

Why even bother quoting or referring to any of the New or Old
Testament if you're going to conclude it's fiction anyway?

I know... you just want to pick out the parts that give you nice
warm fuzzies inside. I wish I could do that to, but I don't think
it works that way.

Besides Barman,

I think #293 on Scottie's list is:

Anyone who picks and chooses which parts of the Holy Bible
they wish to believe will be immediately deported, with only the time
sufficient for a bit of torture.

Zit, is there anything in the Bible that you don't believe?

Honest question.

A better question would be, is there any thread on this forum that doesn't turn into a discussion about the bible?

Zit, is there anything in the Bible that you don't believe?

Honest question.

I believe that the Bible is God's word to mankind. Do I understand
all of it? Nope.

I believe most of the Bible speaks clearly and literally about historical and future events.

There are a few places where it is not clear to me whether or not an
event is literal or not. For example: The book of Revelation is a book
of John's visions. How much of these visions speak of future events
I'm not sure. I honestly haven't studied it as much as I'd like.

In Genesis, does God speak in terms of creation in 6 literal days, or
6 eras. I'm not sure...

Do I believe that Jesus was God's son, born of a virgin, who was
crucified by the Jews/Romans, and rose again. Yes.

I hope that answers your question?

Zit, good post. Very honest sounding. It does answer my question.

And, you have to like the way this guy puts footnotes in his posts. : )

Thanks Funk.

Are you going to the Bash this year?

I think I will be there. Leaning that way. Golden Nugget. Hard to turn down two free nights in the north tower.

Done 4 in a row now. Motivation is kind of dwindling a bit. But I love meeting people from the forum and the 'Fremont experience'.
