I think most would agree New Zealand is the weakest team in the competition. They only make the tournament because of their region. After Australia left, they basically have to compete with Fiji for the solo spot out of the Oceanic region. They were embarrassed last summer by Spain 5-0 in their opener for the Confederations Cup. Slovakia is no Spain, but they got some talent in the squad. Marek Hamsik is a great player, and could make all the difference in this clash. I see a 2-0 game shaping up in the morning. New Zealand will do everything they can to keep it close and try to keep the clean sheet, because they want at least a point. Slovakia, just like the other 2 teams in this group, see this clash as an easy 3 points, and they better get them now in a group where points will be at a minimum.

This game looked as if it would shape up to be one of the best matchups of the first interval of games. Ivory Coast is an African team that many backers had as the best African team in the cup. I don’t agree, I think they defend pretty bad and count on their superstar Dider Drogba way to much. Same can be said about Portugal with Christiano Ronaldo, only difference is he will be out there. With Drogba being ruled out of the match by breaking his arm in a friendly a week ago, the stage is set for Christiano Ronaldo to lead Portugal to a huge win. Portugal also has recovered their skilled centerback Pepe, who will play as a defensive midfielder, and such talents such as Simao and Hugo Almedia combining with the 2 Real Madrid superstars, I cant see Portugal not getting 3 points. I am laying a small bet on Ronaldo to score first as well, the way this ball is moving, he has the best shot of anybody to lay into this thing from long distance, and he has an uncanny ability to hit the back of the net, whether through a penalty, a free kick, or from the run of play. For him just to score will be practically even money, so ill take a bit of risk and take him to strike first.

I don’t care what the spread is, Brazil is about to show us how to play this game. Dunga is one of the best coaches in this tournament, he loves his players and they love him. He seems to motivate them above and beyond and when players like Robinho, Elano, and Baptista put on the yellow shirt, they play outside of themselves on another level. Interesting call ups like Michel Bastos and Grafitti show that Dunga has taken his time to select HIS squad, not maybe what the public wants, but believe me he knows what hes doing. Sense the last World Cup they won Copa America in 2007 beating Argentina in the final, they then repeated in the Confederations Cup last summer beating a impressive USA team. He also took a young squad to China in the Olympics and they made it to the semi finals. Obviously I could keep going on how good Brasil is, but you know this. The question is, will they win by more than 2 goals? I think they will. We have only seen 1 blow-out and that was Germany. North Korea is not as good as Australia, and Brazil is better than Germany. So I think they match the score at least. 4 or 5-0, because oh yea Dunga also taught them how to play D. If you not feeling me and want to out think yourself, then take North Korea and have fun with that.

Robinho to Score TBD
One of my favorite players of all time, this is the perfect competition to spring him back into top flight club football. The world’s biggest stage is at Robinhos feet, he made a solo start and a couple substitute appearances in 2006, he came very close to score a couple times with his closest effort hitting the post. He was the highest scorer of Copa America in 2007, and looked sharp for them last summer in the Confiderations Cup. He was scoring out of his mind at home in Brazil for Santos this year and he has banged in and set up a few sense they started prep games. Dunga will play him 90 minutes a game, as he looks to him as the true catalyst of this team. (Not Kaka) He is getting involved with his teammates and sense I think Brazil will blow out North Korea, there is value in here for him. I also took him at pretty good odds to grab the golden boot.
