Brett Farve. I have a great deal of respect for his sportsmanship and I don't consider him a bad player at all. But I have seen him throw up more desperation ducks in critical moments than any other QB ever. Of course he's had quite a few chances, so that's why he's done it so much. I wouldn't have minded him on my team either.. so long as he would have been coming off the bench to turn a game around, etc.

I would bet the farm if you was in there with Ali in his prime you would be blind in the beginning of the fight. I'm not really understanding your case here...:):)

Now or 1976?

If a boxer's best case for being great is that he can beat me, he must not be very good. Fortunately most people with any intelligence compare great athletes against other great athletes, not idiots on the internet

A lot of people look to Ali as The Greatest, and refuse to look any further than that and no boxer in history can be considered even close to him. While he was the best heavyweight of his time, it was very close and if people fail to accept or acknowledge that, they are most certainly overrating him

Thank you, come again!

hey, i know people have mentioned iverson so i thought i would name some current nba players that are overrated:

1. Steven Nash: 2 MVP's, are you kidding me? Never even deserved 1!
2. Dirk Nowitzki: I know, hes European, hes not suppose to be tough but still.
3. Dwieght Howard: Can he score if hes not dunking on a put back? Definitely no superman.

"(Nolan) Ryan's the only guy who puts fear in me. Not because he could get me out, but because he could kill me. You just hoped to mix in a walk so you could have a good night and go 0-for-3." - Reggie Jackson

It wasn't that difficult to draw a walk off of Ryan, considering he walked more batters than anyone else in baseball history.

There are three types of lies, lies, damned lies and statistics. All that information should tell you is that stats lie, especially when it comes to QBs. There are plenty of reasons why Elway's numbers weren't great early in his career, including, they were a down field passing team unlike Young/Montana and SF, his RBs were HORRENDOUS and his WRs weren't much better. The leading rushers on his teams pre Davis were Sammy Winder (for 5 seasons, topped 800 once in his career), Dorsett, Bobby Humphrey, Gaston Green, Rod Bernstine and Leonard Russell. His leading WRs were Steve Watson, Mark Jackson, Vance Johnson and Michael Young. QB rating doesn't take into account his rushing ability. He also took 3 pretty mediocre teams to the Super Bowl (granted, they got smashed, but none were near Super Bowl quality teams).

All a comparison to Lomax and Krieg does is provide proof the stats lie to anyone who saw the three of them play regularly. QB Rating can't be used as the sole measure of quality. Take a gander at the all time QB Rating leaders. There are a load of average, some below average QBs and some downright poor QBs in the top 50.

Is Elway overrated, maybe so if someone contends he is the best ever or maybe even top 3, but to rely on his statistics as the only measure of his quality is misplaced. 5 Super Bowls, no other QB has played in that many. He got the job done when it mattered repeatedly and brought Denver to levels of success beyond their offensive talent. Believe your eyes, don't believe the stats.

Most over rated IMO and that I have seen:

Baseball - Ryan, Ripken, Rodriguez (mainly b/c of his post season woes)
Football - Manning, Bettis, Marino, Favre, Franco Harris
Hoops - Malone, Ewing
Futbol - Beckham, by a mile

QB rating isn't the be all, end all...I agree with that.

And for the record, I have no bias against Elway, just think it is ludicrous that ESPN has rated him #1 on their all-time QBs list.

Big game numbers are also key, right?

John Elway's numbers in 5 Super Bowls:

76-152 for 1128 yards with 3 TD's and 8 INT's

Not stellar. Not even average. Only against the Falcons did he have a great game. He was little more than mediocre against the Packers, abysmal against the 49ers and Redskins, and good against the Giants.

Jeter may end up being the ALL TIME hit leader and has rings.... wrong answer.

Many more over-rated out there. Aaron Rodgers definitely up on the list......

of course he walked alot of batters, look at how many games he started and how many innings he pitched. All you need to know about Ryan is that he struckout over 5,700 hitters. The number 5 strikeout pitcher of all-time is over 2,000 Strikeouts behind him.

Shaq

I may catch some ish for this, but only thing he had was size.

That reminds me back in the day when a guy walked into this convience store and the guy behind the counter was wearing a University of Georgia Hat and Shirt. The guy who walked into the store said Georgia wouldn't be nothing without Hershel Walker and the guy behind the counter said.."but we got him though"

The moral of the story is....Shaq is Shaq because he got size. If Michael Jordan was a midget he wouldn't have been the same great Michael Jordan.

Driving a car is a sport?

Some believe it is, some don't.

Certainly more of a sport than Bowling, Darts, swimming, and other things.

Assuming we do consider it a sport just for this debate, I think Earnhardt Jr is right up there as being one of if not the most overrated ever.....

Namath. Not even close. Wasn't even an average QB, but he was good looking and talked brash, so the NY scribs loved him. And, yes, he did win the big one - once.
