Cool little write ups on the games. Just confused and you can clear things up. Are you picking the winning teams straight up or are you taking ATS? Example:

Orlando Predators (+6.5) @ Philadelphia Soul: You know, the Preds have got to be tired of traveling up to Philly. The last two games they played in 2007 were both in the City of Brotherly Love, and now after getting beaten by a combined 104-75 in those two games, they have to return again. Now add Chris Jackson to the offensive mix for the Soul and plug in 6 new starters from last year’s defense on the Preds… uh-oh... Since I’m covering the Preds this year, am I contractually obligated to go with Orlando every week? I’ve gotta get Joe Kauffman to check my contract… but for now, just to be safe…

They were not going to initially carry Arena football this year.

Yeah, Philly by 1 means I'm taking the Preds I guess. No real strong feel on the game, but I've gotta pick every game on the board.

You'll notice at the very end of the article, you'll find the Cliff Notes version of my picks and the 8-Ball's picks... the first year somebody used an 8-Ball for picks on ArenaFan the damn thing hit like 72% documented for the season. It was insane.

Makes a really good point about the Preds using the SHOTGUN this year, something that I saw at the scrimmage for the first time used in the AFL since the mid-late '90s when Rickie Foggie was running the Minnesota Fighting Pike and then the New Jersey Red Dogs.

Some other teams have tinkered with it, but usually only for trick plays, and usually the guy taking the snap was a receiver, not the QB. The Preds are actually lining up in the shotgun on a regular basis, especially by the goalline. It may really catch on in this league.

The 8-Ball is just a random number generator. 1 is the road team, 2 is the home team. My picks are legit my picks, though admittingly, I think these lines are tight this week... much tighter than anticipated.

My initial thought was I am going to take the over whatever the number is. Then when I was creating the lines I factored in Jackson and Lee gone and how will Troy do being "the man". I set the line at 109 and the line was released at 112, 112.5. I will pass personally just because of the huge question marks on offense with the Force. Good luck whatever you decide.

Guru: Agree, very surprised at how sharp the lines are in week 1. Only game I felt was off is the Dallas game. I had them as -5 and they opened as dogs. I initially liked the Utah/Ari game under but I think Gatewood and Burley will give Smoker some offensive firepower even against that upgraded defense in Utah.

I guess the roster I looked at when researching this game is not updated. Still a pass on the play for the under for me. I know Germaine won't put up the same numbers as last year without Burley and I have no clue how this new look Rattlers team will look on offense. Logic tells me they should struggle a bit out the gate but we will see in a couple of days.

I did put a little on this game at under 112. Takes over 16 TDs to beat you. I don't think it quite gets there, even with that horrid UT defense.

With their new signings in the offseason on defense, they should get better on defense. I still think there is value on the under I just don't know what to expect with the new offense and new coach. Also how will Utah be without record breaking Burley suiting up in their uniform. Good luck on the under, I think that or nothing is the play in this tilt.
