That really doesn't answer the questions. In your dream world, there will be plenty of free rides

There are people too disabled to work (or simply too slow in the head)

Someone runs up such a high medical bill they feel like they could never pay it off, they simply drop out of the workforce and scrounge around for the rest of their life, living off unreported or untouchable income. That is already far too common among people who owe money. If I was taking home $2 for every hour I worked I would do the same thing, too

What happens when the patient is a child? As soon as they enter the work force, the first 10 years of income goes straight to the doctors? Even that would lead to plenty of free rides for cases where the illness or injury is terminal

How about someone retired who no longer has any income? Is there an insurance company that will take on a frail 90-year-old in failing health? If a hospital depletes their entire bank account and they still owe money, then what? Starve to death or freeze to death? Either way, it was still a partially free ride on the health care system

I guess we could say that all business have these things built into their costs, sort of like how stores have to charge higher prices to make up for shoplifting

But in a country that supposedly values personal freedom and personal responsibility, we do not give patients the power to do so. If I show up at the ER with a fracture and tell them I only want $1 000 worth of treatment, will the hospital see to it that I get appropriate service for what I am willing to pay? Virtually any other service provider will do so, why not medical services? Until they that, we cannot ask, nor expect patient to simply write a check to cover the costs. That is my biggest issue. We already punish the uninsured enough. If we ask them to pay out of pocket, they should only have to pay what the free-market would dictate. But there is no free market when it comes to American health care. So some of them luck into a free ride. A few are crippled financially. The rest are left with nothing at all

All I'm saying is we've had the same system for years and years and we get by somehow don't we?

I never ever said he should sit there on the side of the road but tell me who pays for him? Tell me why he's unemployed and has no insurance?

He should go to the hospital, get treatment, get a big damn bill and have to pay every single penny back. Then, if he goes bankrupt this loan should not be impacted by the bankruptcy (like student loans) so he has to pay every single dime back. There are no free rides in America.

when you get fired and have no job you have no insurance.

ill say this though in your defense. you can get state health care if you are unemployed, if your work doesnt offer it, or if you make little money. his mom probably could have gotten on one of those programs.

maybe your mother should spend her money on health insurance instead of cigarettes, and exercise instead of sitting on her fat ass all day.

the problem lies within

The fact of the matter is your an ignorant moron and if you had the balls to say that shit to my face you would be the one on your ass all day in need of medical care. You dont know the situation and dont act like you fucking do u stupid fuck. She has never smoked a cigarette in her life. she has never seen the inside of a bar. She drinks a half a glass of wine watered down with her dinner. She has done more hard labor in her life than you would believe. You are a fucking idiot. Now get back in your mothers basement. Dont chime in from the peanut gallery as if you should be heard when you are totally fucking ignorant and clueless.

Uh, no, because myself and my wife are very educated and would get another job or have ourselves prepared financially to afford the health care until we could get a job.

See, we do what most people don't and plan. Most of American just reacts and you can't do that.

Lets say he goes to a hospital and asks how much treatment will cost to see if he can afford it, will they give him a quote same as if it were a broken carburetor?

Yes, that's exactly what we're saying you idiot. If you're going to argue a subject, try not to be so lame about it. All anyone is saying is to to your way.

That would suck to be knocked unconsious in a car crash, then die because no one is sure if you have insurance or not, even if you could have easily been saved. Or even worse, if a little kid is left to die, because everyone was certain he couldn't pay the doctors bills. Have either of those ever happened before?

1) That doesn't mean it is perfect
2) The system you want where everyone pays what they owe is nothing close to the system we have

Do you honestly think a health care system no matter what it is will be perfect? Of course not.

People paying what they owe? What a concept.

Enfuego,
Do you like the system we have or do you think it needs an overhaul?

I work hard and have health care coverage for me and my family. We can make an appointment anytime we'd like and all is covered.

Why would I not like it?

Socialized medicine isn't what everybody in America thinks it is. I've lived in a country that has it and it could take 2-3 months to get an appointment. No thank you.

Did you know that there are so many people who don't work and don't pay and still get health coverage that everyone else is paying for?

It is truly great that you can appreciate the coverage you recieve (and if you are so greatful, I don't see why you have an issue with someone else getting it for free), but no matter what people in America think, socialized medicine is already here

Please excuse my language here but ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? I work hard for mine and I enjoy it but I shouldn't have an issue for someone getting it for free? Is this a joke?

Speaking for myself personally, I have no problem with the community at large - via federal/state/local taxes (whichever apply in this case) - paying for WUTANG's mother to get whatever level of medical care she needs to save her from needless pain and physical suffering.

I'm personally very thankful to live in a country that tries pretty hard to assure that such medical care is available for those people who need it.

So you don't think the system needs to be changed because you recieve all the care you need, but you do think the system needs to be changed because some people mooch off of others

I give up

:think2:

I for one am glad you gave up. Not even my friends on the very far left think it's right that people get completely free care.

Could it be adjusted? Well, yes. Does it need to be? Well, IMO no.

I receive the care I need because I work for it. That's how America works. If you don't think that's how America works then I give up.

If you think an unemployed person should receive the same care as an employed person then I don't agree. How do those two deserve the same care and treatment. One works and one doesn't.
