JDuece just reminded me of my earliest gig. Age 10-11 my friends and I would wait for housewives or older people by the exit of the supermarkets. When they emerged we would offer to carry their bags and load their groceries into the trunk. The tip was a nickel or a dime. It was the early 70s and I wanted my DC comics and baseball cards, so that's what we did. Took away from wiffleball and boxball time though.

Yeah, those are the same black people who think it's ok for them to form a mob and then rush into a clothing store or a donut shop and grab whatever they want..... Do you recall the "Wolfpacks" on South Street a few years ago? These kids are all over 18 now. I wonder what they're up to.

Not so sure about that.....while I don't disagree that the group you described are part of that thought process.....plenty of educated blacks feel that way as well.

Yes, I do recall that group of idiots.

From 12-16 I sold newspaper subscriptions door to door and did yard work and odd jobs, then at 16 worked fast food all through high school. After high school joined the Army for way to many years and while in got my degree.

Hard road and lots of work, but worth it.

Just about every conservative in this thread was working at a very young age (child labor? outrageous!) and almost everyone I agree with politically had a paper route. As a matter of fact, paper route seems to be the strongest common denominator I can identify.

Really? A Paper route helps kids grow up to be hard working, honest, responsible citizens (conservatives)? :think2:

Joe not only did I have a paper route but both my younger brothers also had one. My dad was the oldest of 3 boys. He and his brothers had a paper route and a newsstand in a rough neighborhood. My uncle ran it at times by himself when he was 9 as my dad was already in pharmacy school by then. My uncle is a pediatrician now. They grew up dirt poor. My grandfather fled Kiev at 14. Snuck onto a ship. Never saw his parents again. He became a wallpaper hanger. Had arms like Popeye post spinach :)
3 generations of the same family in one house in North Philly. All Dems though, sorry :)
