It's a cycle. Wouldn't say I have a lot of friends on it but I worked with welfare to work programs for a decade. It isnt like those job programs lift them out of poverty. They can help them maintain a standard of living that you or I wouldn't enjoy but those programs only do so much.

Never said they live in luxury... I do believe they they rather just barely get by and do nothing... then work to have a little bit more. Or to teach their children how to live a better life.

Most on it become comfortable, and begin to see it as a way of life, and never teach their children any better. Hell, there are families that teach it generation to generation.

I don't know what each individual had or didn't have. Then to a real job at 15. Yep. A real job as a dishwasher about 50 hours / week in my summers.

Worked as many as three jobs at once while getting educated and getting going in life 'till I started my own business. Then 70 or 80 hrs / week 'till the internet started eating my work.

Hard work, honest work, and discipline builds character and self reliance. The route is basically the same for anyone who succeeds.

Race relations are worse now because blacks feel white cops are killing them unjustly at an alarming rate. It has nothing to do with Obama. Those who thought electing a black president would help race relations were silly. A racist doesn't change because the president is black.

the route is not the same for all. The idea that hard work and dedication cures all and will lead to success for everyone is misleading. It's not the only factors.

Yes yes..I had a paper route too. Actually had a double route, maybe about $200 one month at Christmas time. My parents about shit their pants. I was always on time, wrapped the papers in plastic, made sure they made it on the porch, collected like a maniac, and the people appreciated my efforts. In addition, during the wintertime, some of my paper route customers had me shovel their walks for them. Sweated like a beast in 30 degree weather. Made about $10 a yard doing that. Started cutting grass about the age 12 and did that each summer till I graduated college, all while working out at and training for a D1 National Championship Hockey Team. Tired as fuck, still found a way to get in the gym on Sunday mornings to do squats after a hard night of drinking and smoking with the boys.
