BONES BEST BET

ANGELS ML -123 *4* BEST BET

Back to the well here again after destroying our 4 unit play gain these Angels last night. Are we really getting these odds? The Sox are about to get swept at home after a brutal 8-3 loss last night and they didn’t even have to face Richards who was out in the second inning. The Los Angeles Angels have won eight of their last 10 games and are 25 games above .500 and crushing the ball behind some solid pitching. They have won eight straight games when scoring more than three runs. Tonight Matt Shoemaker, who is 11-4 with a 3.84 ERA gets the nod, the Angels are 5-1 in his last 6 road starts and 11-4 in Shoemakers last 15 starts overall. De La Rosa pitches well at home, but not that well to ignore this game here tonight.

DODGERS -1 -151 *4*

Very square play here we know but if you ever want a safe investment, there is no better bet than when Kershaw is on the hill. To make things even better, he is on the hill at home (incredible 0.78 WHIP) to the worst offense in the league in the Padres and their 3.34 runs per game. Kershaw faced these same Padres on July 10th in LA, where he went 9 innings, allowed 3 hits, 1 walk, and 1 run. Expect a similar start here tonight.

NATIONALS ML + BRAVES ML +151 *3*

The Nats have won 9 straight while The Diamondbacks have dropped 5 straight and 8 of 10. Not the best pitching matchup but Miley hasn’t been great this year and Arizona are 0-3 in his last 3 starts.

The Reds are terrible and have dropped 8 of 9 – they are also throwing David Holmberg to the wolves for the start here. Holmberg has two career starts in them he has gone a combined 6.1 innings allowing 15 hits, 6 walks and 8 ER – so, not good stats. Teheran has had some struggles but is a solid pitcher and the Braves own a 15-11 record when he starts.

INDIANS @ TWINS – UNDER 7 -105 *2*

Kluber and Hughes has been incredible with sub 1 WHIPs and low ERAs over their past 3 starts. The Indians have played to the under in 8 of their past 9 games.

LAS VEGAS -- The Angels, racking up wins in seven of their past eight games, have the best record in baseball and a 1.5-game lead over Oakland in the AL West, but they were dealt a major blow Wednesday when ace Garrett Richards injured his knee and may miss the rest of the season.

Without Richards, the Angels rotation would look the least formidable of any in the AL playoffs, and the series prices would reflect it by about 35 cents.

In reality, the Angels have been quite fortunate by having to use only six starters all season. Up to this point, their rotation has been relatively healthy with the exception of Tyler Skaggs. Now, big-money pitchers like Jered Weaver and C.J. Wilson are going to have to take their game up a notch. Hector Santiago will have to dig deeper, and tonight’s starter Matt Shoemaker will also have be better.

Shoemaker (11-4, 3.84 ERA) has unexpectedly turned himself into a valuable part of the Angels rotation. For bettors, he’s been the second most profitable Angels starter this season, as the team has gone 10-4 (+6.0 units) behind him (Richards is +10.5 units). That’s some pretty good stuff for a rookie who started his season out of the bullpen.

Shoemaker is 5-1 with a 5.18 ERA in six road starts this season. The high ERA comes almost exclusively from a June start at Kansas City, where he gave up eight runs in four innings. In two road starts since then, he’s given up just two earned runs in each. And for whatever reason, the Angels’ bats like to mash when he’s on the mound – they’ve averaged 9.5 runs a game in his six road starts.

The Red Sox have lost four straight and a loss tonight would mark the sixth time this season they’ve been swept at home. Boston hasn’t resisted in the final game of a home series all season when on the verge of being swept.

If the Angels win tonight, it would be their first four-game sweep at Fenway Park since 1962, the second year of the Angels franchise behind the likes of Dean Chance and Bo Belinsky.

The pressure to be even better might be too much down the road for Shoemaker, but the Red Sox are bad enough right now, and he gets plenty of run support on the road, so laying -122 against Rubby De La Rosa (4-4, 3.79) is attractive.

Kershaw starts tonight

Zack Greinke was originally scheduled to start tonight at home against the Padres, but because of a sore elbow, he was given an extra day’s rest, and tomorrow’s scheduled starter, Clayton Kershaw, was moved up to today. Kershaw, who took the loss Saturday against Milwaukee, is still on his regular rest.

Usually when a stud pitcher like Greinke is scratched, you’ll see a long reliever take over or a call-up take the place in the rotation. To see the best pitcher in the game get the nod was a surprise.

The scratch is another quick example of how respected Kershaw is in Las Vegas. Greinke was -160 over the Padres’ best pitcher, Tyson Ross, but after the scratch, the adjusted price with Kershaw jumped 50 cents to -210. And bettors still thought it was cheap, betting it up to -220.

The Padres have lost all three of Ross’ starts against the Dodgers this season, even though he’s allowed only six combined runs over them. All three of the games stayed UNDER, and in Kershaw’s only appearance against the Padres on July 10, he won 2-1 (the total was 6 runs).

The Dodgers are 14-8 all-time against the Padres when Kershaw pitches, but bettors would still be down -2 units if backing him in all of them because he’s priced so high.

Look for a great pitching battle tonight and don’t be afraid to bet UNDER 5.5 runs. Yes, that’s right, a 5.5 is on the board and for good reason.

Thursday selections:

Angels( Shoemaker) -122 at Red Sox, 7:10 p.m. ET

Cubs (Wood) +150 vs. Giants, 8:05 p.m. ET

Padres/Dodgers UNDER 5.5 (-105), 10:10 p.m. ET

We went 3-2 with our preseason picks last week. The 3rd week of preseason is here, and this is possibly the best week of the preseason as a lot of teams will go with their starters for a good portion of their games. We get things kicked off with the Steelers and Eagles tonight on Thursday Night Football. Two Steelers RB's were charged for possession of Marijuana last night and that may play into our favor here with this system pick.
IMPORTANT - Please note that I don't bet much at all on my preseason picks. There are too many "unknowns" in the preseason, so I keep my bets small. I also don't keep my preseason record towards my yearly record, as I bet a fraction of the amount on these preseason picks.
Pittsburgh Steelers @ Philadelphia Eagles - EAGLES -3.5 (-103)

15* MLB Thursday No-Doubt Rout on Los Angeles Angels -122

The Los Angeles Angels are one of the hottest teams in baseball. They have won seven of their last eight games overall and own the best record in all of baseball with a 75-50 mark. I look for them to sweep the lowly Boston Red Sox (56-70), who have pretty much quit on their season.

Matt Shoemaker has filled in for a couple guys in the starting rotation very nicely this year. He has gone 11-4 with a 3.84 ERA and 1.188 WHIP over 14 starts and seven relief appearances. He is 2-1 with a 3.24 ERA in his last three starts as well.

Rubby De La Rosa has been decent for Boston in limited action as well. He is 4-4 with a 3.78 ERA and 1.402 WHIP in 12 starts this year. However, he gave up six earned runs and 13 base runners over four innings to Houston in his last start on August 16th.

The Angels are scoring 4.7 runs/game overall and 5.0 on the road. The Red Sox are scoring 3.8 runs/game overall and 3.8 at home. The Angels are 40-13 in their last 53 vs. a team with a losing record. The Red Sox are 7-19 in their last 26 games as a home underdog. Bet the Angles Thursday.
