The Atlanta Hawks are on a six-game winning streak (6-0 ATS) and they’ve held their opponents under 100 points in five of those six games.
"We've just got to make it stingy as possible on the defensive end,” Josh Smith told reporters.
The Hawks sit at 19-6, a half game up on the Orlando Magic in the Southeast Division. The last time they were 13 games over .500 in December was the 1997-98 season.
The Hawks are jumping out to big leads early, allowing their starters plenty of time to rest. Bench players like Jamal Crawford and Mo Evans are continuing to contribute both offensively and defensively.
These Hawks are athletic and scrappy. They dive for loose balls and they play with a lot of heart. They may still be young, but since their first-round playoff matchup against the Celtics a couple of years back, they have matured and believe that they can play with just about any team in the league.

L.A. Lakers at New Jersey Nets
When the Nets won two games in a span of four days during the first week of December, it looked as if the armpit of the league was beginning to resemble a professional basketball team.
Since that second win of the season at Chicago on Dec. 8, New Jersey has dropped six straight (1-5 ATS) while losing by a margin of 17.2 ppg.
Chris Douglas-Roberts even returned to the lineup on Friday night after missing three games, playing 30 minutes and contributing 16 points. But that wasn’t enough to avoid a beat down by the less-than-stellar Raptors, 118-95, as 7-point underdogs.
The Nets pulled back within a non-laughable margin by the end of the game because Toronto benched all of its starters when the game was out of control, 94-60, after three periods of play.
"We were down a bit and then we came storming back and we were right there,” said center Brook Lopez after getting within eight points of the Jazz in the fourth quarter on Wednesday. “It just fell apart on us at the end again. I don't think you can fault our effort though."
The effort may be there, but blowout after blowout isn’t going to convince any bettors.

Markov has been sidelined since a collision with goalie Carey Price during the season opener. Montreal has given up 102 goals this season without Markov’s defensive prowess, ranking 22nd in the league.
"That's real good news," Canadiens coach Jacques Martin said regarding Markov's return. "He probably needs a little timing ... but to have a player with his skill will help with our breakouts and should help with our power play as well.”
"I know my body and I feel good, I'm ready to go,” said Markov, who will turn 31 on Saturday. “For me, it's like the season is starting."
Another added bonus for the Canadiens is the visiting opponent. The Islanders are 13-15-7 on the season and 0-9-2 in their last 11 meetings against Montreal.
