BOSTON COLLEGE +8½ -106 over Syracuse
In the first “Big Saturday” of the season, the Orangemen whacked the Tar Heels in impressive fashion with all eyes on them for that early start. The Carrier Dome was packed to the rafters, as Syracuse extended its unbeaten streak to 16 games. The Orange are on a major roll. However, Syracuse’s stock is soaring and with that comes an inflated number. It’s also a huge letdown spot for the Orange, playing the 5-11 Eagles after dismantling the perennial powerhouse Tar Heels.
Boston College is way at the bottom of the ACC standings, making them the most undervalued team in the conference. The Eagles stock has sunk after losing seven of their past nine games, including four straight before defeated Virginia Tech on Saturday. One win does wonders for a team’s psyche and that win followed a good performance against Clemson in which the Eagles lost by just two points. The Eagles are better than this. With the most returning experience in the ACC and with the seventh-ranked, non-conference strength of schedule in the country, Boston College figures to be well-prepped for this huge game. There’s more good news for the Eagles as well. 7-foot-1, 250-pound center, Dennis Clifford returned against Clemson and this will be his third game back. It’s no coincidence that the Eagles have been much better with Clifford in the lineup because he impacts the game in every way with his rebounding, shot blocking, scoring and shot altering. Statistically, Syracuse is a middle of the pack college basketball team, meaning its sum is better than its parts. The Eagles have a chance to win this game and in this buy-low, sell-high scenario, the points come with plenty of value.
