The Tide had some problems going into the season last year. Find a quarterback;
a right tackle, lack of a proven running back and seven new starters on defense.
Sounds a lot like this year. This might be Sabans most talented teams to date with
19 players who were once listed as 5-star recruits. Yet the roster is full of players
who lack starting experience.

Saban after winning the national championship:

NC Year..........School.........Following Year............Final AP
2003................LSU............2004 (9-3)...................16th
2009................ALA............2010 (10-3)..................10th
2011................ALA............2012 (13-1)..................1st
2012................ALA............2013 (11-2)...............,..7th

Decent chance the Tide will have a 1st year starter at QB, RB, LT, LG, RG, and RT and a C that never played there before... if CamRob is out and Taylor loses his starting RG (as expected by current depth chart) the only offensive lineman with a career start will be true Soph, Pierschbacher, likely at Center where he has never taken a snap. Could be the only team in nation to have 0 starts on Oline in current position...not good

Saban's win/loss record already catapults him into the "legendary" category of college football coaches......He is on the verge or becoming one of the (if not thee) all-time greats.........The guys is a winner.....I wonder how he did when he shot marbles back in West Virginia during his childhood ?

Texas A&M

The Aggies open the 2016 season against UCLA. This is a tough opener for A&M's
rebuilt offense and revamped coaching staff. New offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone
had held the same role at UCLA, so he will be able to tell Aggie defensive coaches
all about rising star quarterback Josh Rosen. Along with Ole Miss' Chad Kelly, Rozen
will be one of the two best quarterbacks A&M sees all season.

Will this finally be the year the Bruins play up to their talent level on a consistent
basis under Jim Mora? Of course not, It's UCLA.

South Carolina Loses QB

Connor Mitch will graduate this summer and then transfer to another school. Mitch
began the 2015 season as South Carolina's starting signal caller until a separated
shoulder and hip injury limited his playing time. As a graduate transfer, Mitch will
be immediately eligible to play this season, and he has two years of eligibility re-
maining. No mentioned of where he might be headed.

Arkansas

Razorback head coach Bret Bielema can't be to happy with his SEC home schedule which
includes Alabama (Oct. 8), Ole Miss (Oct. 15), Florida (Nov. 5) and LSU (Nov. 12). That
each set is back-to-back makes it even more concerning for Bielema.

Alabama

Nick Saban has already expressed concern for what he considers the toughest conference road
schedule. The Tide have tough road trips at Ole Miss (Sept. 17), Tennessee (Oct. 15), LSU
(Nov 5) and Arkansas (Oct. 8). The first three contest are against teams that likely will open
in the top 15. The November 5 trip to LSU could very well determine the conference champs.

Here are the 10 most intriguing QB matchups for 2016, based on game importance, schedule timing and past history:
[h=3]1. CHAD KELLY VS. COOPER BATEMAN[/h]Alabama at Ole Miss, Sept. 17: It wasn’t until last year that Ole Miss had beaten Alabama in back-to-back seasons. That was a matchup of Chad Kelly vs. Cooper Bateman, but it was the only game Bateman started all year for the Tide. Jake Coker took over after the 43-37 loss and Alabama ran the table, winning the SEC and two games in the playoffs to claim another national title. Bateman hasn’t been named the starter yet for 2016, but it’s likely he will be. Kelly is simply the best returning QB in the conference and this mid-September showdown will go a long way in shaping the SEC West race. Can Ole Miss really win three in a row against Bama?
[h=3]2. JOSHUA DOBBS VS. LUKE DEL RIO[/h]Florida at Tennessee, Sept. 24: If this is the year Tennessee finally gets over the hump and wins the SEC East, it will happen because Vols QB Joshua Dobbs plays well enough to snap the Gators’ 11-game winning streak in this heated rivalry. This is Dobbs’ third year as a starter and final chance to beat Florida. Del Rio has a lot of pressure on him to succeed early and this is the biggest game on Florida’s September slate. He has to be good early.
[h=3]3. BRANDON HARRIS VS. COOPER BATEMAN[/h]Alabama at LSU, Nov. 5: LSU hasn’t beaten Alabama the past five games, and if this year is going to be different, LSU’s Brandon Harris will have to play better than he did a year ago, when LSU was 7-0 and No. 2 in the country but then got trounced 30-16 in a game that was nowhere near that close. Harris was just 6-for-19 passing for 128 yards and that won’t cut it. The good news for Tigers fans, though, is that Harris looked good in the spring.
[h=3]4. AUSTIN ALLEN VS. CHAD KELLY[/h]Ole Miss at Arkansas, Oct. 15: One of the bests shootouts last season was between Ole Miss’ Chad Kelly and Austin Allen’s big brother, Brandon. Kelly threw for 368 yards and three touchdowns – and looked like chopped liver compared to Allen, who threw for 442 and six TDs in the Razorbacks’ 53-52 win. Little brother Austin takes over for Arkansas and he’s hoping to pick up where three-year starter Brandon left off. This could be another wild one.
[h=3]5. COOPER BATEMAN VS. JOSHUA DOBBS[/h]Alabama at Tennessee, Oct. 15: Here’s another great game on Oct. 15, and one that could be reprised in the SEC Championship Game in December. The Tide and Vols are the favorites in each division and this annual October matchup should be a classic. (And yes, well aware it should probably be rated higher). The cross-division matchup probably won’t destroy title chances for the loser, but a victory certainly would bolster Tennessee’s chances. The Vols have lost nine straight in the series.
[h=3]6. TREVOR KNIGHT VS. JOHN FRANKLIN III[/h]Texas A&M at Auburn, Sept. 17: This is the first SEC game of the year for both schools, and both are scrambling to be better at the quarterback position in 2016. This is a great barometer game in mid-September for the new quarterbacks. Knight transferred to A&M after graduating from Oklahoma and won the starting job in the spring. Franklin hasn’t won anything yet, but the feeling in Auburn is that he will be the guy in the fall. These two teams will be desperate for conference wins, so neither will want this one to slip away.
[h=3]7. BRANDON HARRIS VS. CHAD KELLY[/h]Ole Miss at LSU, Oct. 22: See Nos. 1 and 3 above, where the likely trio of SEC West heavyweights will likely duke it out for superiority in the division. This race should be all about Alabama, Ole Miss and LSU, so this game should play a huge factor in the race as well. These are the two most experienced QBs in the SEC West and this one will really matter, too. Kelly won the showdown a year ago, and Harris will be looking for paybacks.
[h=3]8. NICK FITZGERALD VS. SOME SOUTH CAROLINA QB[/h]South Carolina at Mississippi State, Sept. 10: This one makes the list because of the unknown factor – and the fear of the unknown. Nick Fitzgerald is stepping into some very big shoes, replacing Dak Prescott at Mississippi State. He’s only had a handful of snaps, so no one really knows what to expect of him and this Week 2 game – the SEC opener for the Bulldogs – is really big. There’s no way to know right now who will start for South Carolina. Two veterans were injured this spring, one left and two young freshmen have a ton of potential. Fall practice will be intense, and winning an early game with be critical.

[h=3]9. JACOB EASON VS. FELEIPE FRANKS[/h]Georgia vs. Florida in Jacksonville, Oct. 29: Ok, so here’s where the massive conjecture comes in. There is no guarantee these two true freshmen will be ready to start at the beginning of the season, though Eason clearly is closer at this point. (It’s why Del Rio gets the call for UF in the September game with Tennessee listed above). But when the annual cocktail party rolls around in Jacksonville at the end of October, it would be great to see these two top recruits begin their rivalry. Let’s hope it happens.
[h=3]10. KYLE SHURMUR VS. DREW LOCK[/h]Vanderbilt at Missouri, Nov. 12: This is a bit of a reach when it comes to high-profile games, but this matchup is included because by mid-November it will be interesting to see how these two sophomores have progressed. Both were thrown into the fire as true freshmen a year ago, and they really struggled. But at the same time, both arrived on campus with nice recruiting resumes and big things are expected of them. Ten games in, it will be interesting to see how they’ve done all season and how close they are to reaching a bowl game.

Florida

For the 26th time in school history, the Gators swept the overall SEC All-Sports Trophy.
The All-Sports standings are calculated by using a quotient that factors in how many
teams participate in a sport and where each school finished. Five Florida teams won
league titles. (Gymnastics, Soccer, Softball, Women's Tennis, Men's Swimming).

Overall Standings: 1. Florida, 2. Texas A&M, 3. Georgia, 4. Auburn, 5. Kentucky,
6. Alabama, 7. Arkansas, 8. Tennessee, 9. South Carolina, 10. Ole Miss, 11. Missouri,
12. LSU, 13. Vanderbilt, 14. Mississippi State

Georgia Quarterback

It's not if, but just when freshman Jacob Eason, the prize five-star recruit takes over as
Georgia's starting quarterback. Eason's arrival in January was a much anticipated one
for Bulldog fans and he only added to the hype with an outstanding performance in the
spring game. Doing it in the fall is another matter entirely, but it's easy to see why the
kid was ranked the nation's No. 2 pro-style quarterback of the 2016 class and why Dawg
fans are so excited. It's only now a matter of when he permanently assumes the keys
to the offense.

Georgia Running Back

The Georgia staff remains confident that Nick Chubb's knee recovery is going as planned,
but how quickly he can regain the form that made him a first-team All-SEC player as a
freshman in 2014 after rushing for 1,547 yards and 14 touchdowns remains to be seen.
When Mr. Chubb is healthy, he's as good as anyone in the country. With a freshman QB
as the probable starter, the offense needs Chubb to take up where he was before his
injury.

LSU

Austin Deculus, the number four ranked offensive tackle in the nation has committed
to the Tigers. The 6-3, 323 pound Deculus is rated the number three prospect in the
state of Texas. The state of Texas continues to be fertile recruiting grounds for LSU.
With Deculus in the fold, LSU continues its march toward a third top-5 class in four years.

Sidenote: LSU is just 1-8 against the spread their last 9 games against Arkansas.

Vanderbilt

Some progress was made in Derek Mason's second season, particularly with the defense
becoming a formidable unit. Taking another step forward from 4-8 will be a challenge,
even in the mediocre SEC East. Vandy's four wins were against Austin Peay, Middle Tenn,
Missouri and Kentucky with little help from a pitiful offense. The Commodores ranked 120th
in yards per play and will hope for a strong offseason from rising quarterback Kyle Shurmur.
Shurmur and running back Ralph Webb are a promising combination for offensive coordinator
Andy Ludwig to build around and the line will benefit from the return of Andrew Jelks from
a season ending knee injury. Vanderbilt should have a stout battle with South Carolina for
last place in the SEC East. Might want to consider the under when they play each other since
neither team has any offensive power to be afraid of.

Sidenote: Vanderbilt is 3-13 against the spread in Game six their past 16 games. Kentucky
fits the slot this season.

Roc gives the barn the people's elbow....

Auburn junior running back Roc Thomas is expected to transfer to Jacksonville State, according to a report from Rivals’ Jay G. Tate.

Thomas, a former
5-star prospect from the recruiting class of 2014, rushed for 465 yards and three touchdowns off 86 carries (5.4 ypc) in his first two years with the Tigers. In December, coach Gus Malzahn refuted any speculation that Thomas was interested in transferring.

Currently listed as the third option on the depth chart (per OurLads.com) behind senior Jovon Robinson and sophomore Kerryon Johnson, Thomas was expected to compete for playing time this summer leading into the regular season.

Instead, he will have two years of eligibility with Jacksonville State and can vie for a starting position immediately, per the NCAA’s FBS-to-FCS transfer regulations.

Ole Miss

The university's self imposed penalties to the football program include three years
of probation and eleven fewer total scholarships over four years starting with the
most recent recruiting class, limiting Ole Miss to 22 signees instead of 25 in each
of the next three years. The violations include left tackle Tunsil's use of three loaner
cars over a six month period. Two boosters who provided money and/or lodging to
Tunsil's stepfather, including one payout of at least $500, were indefinitely dis-
associated. A third, one of the owners of an Oxford car dealership, was disassociated
for three years for providing the loaner cars. Another athlete kept a loaner vehicle for
more than a month after his own was repaired. The car dealer also allowed Tunsil to
postpone his $3,000 down payment on a 2010 Dodge Challenger for three or four
months. The university cited mitigating factors in its favor, including that "all but one
of the 16 Level I violations arose from intentional misconduct committed by rogue
former employees or boosters outside the University's direct control acting in contravention
of rules education provided to them by the University."

Sidenote: Tunsil acknowledge following the NFL Draft that he accepted money from a
coach while he was at Ole Miss.
