RT, I'm pulling for Kirby Smart to do well at Georgia. He's been a LOYAL Alabama assistant coach
for several years and one of Nick Saban's favorites. Maybe his all-time favorite. But, Coach Smart
has his hands full at Georgia replacing a coach who won 10 games a season for 15 years. AIN'T going
to be easy that's for damn sure.

I look forward to watching Kirby and this challenge the next few years/

Time will tell on the coaching part, but as far as recruiting goes he has already put the Dawgs on the next level.

Mississippi State

One week after Art Briles lost his job at Baylor for a sexual assault scandal involving his
football program, Mississippi State opted to admit Jeffery Simmons. In March, the five-
star defensive lineman recruit was caught on tape throwing punches at a woman on the
ground. The schools press release say that Simmons "in an effort to break up a domestic
fight between his sister and another woman, he used physical force against on to those
involved in the altercation." Simmons is awaiting a June 14 court date on charges of simple
assault and disturbing the peace. As part of Simmons punishment by MSU, he will have
to miss the first game against South Alabama. One game. That's quite a message the
school/athletic department has sent. That if you're talented enough and can disrupt an
offense, we'll still find a way to keep you around even if you've been caught on tape battering
a female.

Auburn Sidenotes:

*Auburn will attend three satellite camps this summer. Michigan and Jim Harbaugh have
39 such camps scheduled.

*Auburn has had five defensive coordinators in six years and seven in ten years.

*Gus Malzahn is 27-13 during his four seasons as head coach at Auburn.

*Rumor, Baylor is interested in Gus Malzahn as their head football coach.

Bama's defensive backfield depth took a hit today with Burgess-Becker transfer. He will have 3 years left after sitting 2016. strange since he and Calvin Ridley have the same guardian...

Becker had worked himself up to backing up Eddie Jackson at safety after playing
on special teams last season.

He was recruited by Kirby Smart...don't know if Georgia is in play or not. Saban
gave him a full release.

Also heard today he wanted to be closer to home and Miami might be where he's
looking. Who knows with these kids today?

yeah he was a no-show when he was supposed to be back in TTown and said he needed to "decompress" back in SoFl for a while. Guessing he does the Miami deal as you mentioned.

Why would Auburn do this? Recruiting?

Auburn: Gus Malzahn has received a one-year extension through 2020 and raise to $4.725 million per season. Malzahn, who is 27-13 in three seasons, earned $4.1 million last season. The Tigers went 12-2 and reached the national title game in his first year, followed by seasons of 8-5 and 7-6. The buyout parameters have not changed. Malzahn would be owed about $2.23 million for each year remaining on the contract if he is dismissed.

Well, there has been some strong rumors that Baylor would like to have Malzahn as there
next head coach once they find their footing.

Most folks don't know this but Briles was the highest paid coach in the Big 12 last year.
Baylor is a private school and they don't have to give out coaching salaries. Briles
made close to $6 million during 2015.

(IF) the rumors are valid...don't think that little Baptist school can't pay big money for
a head coach. Malzahn and Briles were good friends and shared the same offensive
philosophy.

number of coaches on payroll is the only thing they can lead the nation in .... it's a time-honored tradition

paid $9M to buy out Chizik and millions more to his staff. they were paying tubbs, franklin, and borges for years after their departure

i hope they give Gus a lifetime extension...i want him to stay right where he's at

Future SEC Quarterbacks

Three SEC commits were named among the twelve top quarterback prospects who will attend
Nike's prestigious competition camp held this summer in Oregon. Nike held 15 regional camps
around the country from February through May this year. The standout players at the regional
camps earn invites to the Finals. Alabama commit Tua Tagovailoa, Georgia's Jake Fromm and
LSU's Miles Brennan will represent SEC schools.

Satellite Camp Noise

With all the uproar surrounding satellite camps and Northern schools attempting to raid the talent
rich South, one of the top prospects from New Jersey is considering Alabama, Florida and Tennessee.
Fred Hansard, a four-star defensive tackle (6-3, 325) is rated the No. 10 defensive tackle in the
country. Hansard has received over 30 scholarship offers.

Alabama Commit

Alabama picked up its tenth verbal commitment last night for their 2017 class. Elliot Baker, from City
College of San Francisco is rated the No. 2 junior college player. He is rated a four-star prospect and
stands 6-7 and weighs 300 pounds. With the verbal commitment from Baker, Alabama's 2017 class
now ranks No. 3 in the nation and No. 1 in the SEC.

Alabama Loses Commit

Kendall "Hulk" Jones has failed to qualify at Alabama and his enrolled in junior college. The 6-5, 375
pound Jones was rated a four-star defensive lineman and was rated the nations No. 11 defensive
tackle prospect. Going into this season, Alabama has the best defensive line in the SEC. Mr. Jones
can get his grades up and help out in the future.

Alabama: the rich get richer. They signed the #1, #2, and #18 OL's in last year's class....and now the #2 JUCO player (an OL) commits. It's unbelievable the recruiting Saban does.

you're more excited that i am

our past JUCO super lineman are:

James Carpenter - fantastic, 1st rounder
B Jackson - starter at OT last year...worst RT in Saban era
Leon Brown - awful
Charles Baldwin - left program without playing a single down

i'm always skeptical on JUCO kids b/c there are far more misses than hits. Baldwin was #1 JUCO player in nation and Bama coaches couldn't believe how technically terrible he was when he got on campus

Jonah Williams (2016 class) will be a superstar and Leatherwood (2017) is going to be a gem. I don't put much stock in JUCO though...there is a reason they went that route and surfaces pretty quickly in the big show. Would agree though that Cristobal is one hell of a recruiter

Vanderbilt

Totally lost in the shuffle because of a terrible offense, Vandy's defense was pretty darn
good last season considering the offense averaged just 15 points per game. The defense
should be as good or maybe even better than 2015. For Vanderbilt to improve on last
year's record, the sorryass offense has to improve. Have my doubts............

Sidenote: The Doars are just 2-11 against the spread when playing before the Georgia
game. Kentucky on October 8 gets the honor this season.

LSU

The Tiger defense wasn't bad last year finishing 25th overall and 17th against the run but
the pressure is on new defensive coordinator Dave Aranda to make it national title good.
The former Wisconsin DC is a rising star in most circles, and if he's really as good as ex-
pected...LSU has the talent, experience and a stud running back in Leonard Fournette.
Plus, Les Miles needs a big year. He has no room for disaster!

Sidenote: November 5, Alabama/LSU could very well determine who plays for the national
championship.

could be a really good betting oppy on Kent State at Alabama in mid-Sept

Tide have night game in Texas vs USCw on Sept 3 followed by b2b midday games vs Western Kentucky and at Ole Miss. Both games set for 2:30 local time so will likely be some brutal heat/humidity against two teams that play no-huddle, very fast-paced offenses. Obviously win or lose there will be a letdown after the Ole Miss game and Kent State are Saban's alma mater so he won't be looking to throw a beating on them.

Kent St like to slow it up and were 125th in nation in plays/game last year. They probably won't score more than 10 points but line should be well into the 30's, perhaps even low -40's

Very similar to 3 years ago when Bama met Colorado State. It was hot as hell that day as I was there (96 and humid) and Bama sputtered and went into 4th quarter at 17-6 before scoring two 4Q TD's to win 31-6. This was a week after midday shootout in College Station where they got revenge against Johnny Football 49-42. CSU was coached by Jim McElwain who was Saban's OC so had no real interest in running up any score. Line that day was -39

Bama are 13-0 SU but just 2-11 ATS with line higher than -34 which this will be if we start well this season. Both of those covers were against 1-AA teams and we are 0-9 ATS with big lines vs other 1-A squads

Good stuff RT.

Never take Bama at home against a non-conference team when the line is 40 or above.

Saban will play the starters the first half and into the third quarter...but he NEVER tries
to bury a sub-par team.

For his historic season, Derrick Henry was named the Alabama Sports Writers Association Amateur Athlete of the Year. The award will presented to Henry during Sunday’s ASWA banquet. It was a year of accolades for Henry, who also claimed first-team All-American honors, the SEC Offensive Player of the Year Award, the Maxwell Award, the Walter Camp Player of the Year and the Doak Walker Award. He is just the fourth college player to win all four awards in the same season and the first since Wisconsin’s Ron Dayne did so in 1999.
He earned the SEC Offensive Player of the Week five times during the 2015 season, and became the 12th SEC Player to win the Heisman Trophy.

CL, this is why I'm worried about UF being 37 point favorites (w/ McElwain as head coach). I see McElwain running his program very similarly. I know UMass stinks, but 37 points would be an outburst for this team!
