What's the story w/ Malzahn? I keep hearing (reading) on other sites and here that Malzahn is on his way out at Auburn.....and he's an asshole or difficult to work for. What's the scoop?
if you ever watched the documentary on Mitch Mustain you get a pretty good idea of what this fella is all about. he's just a pathetic weasel that talks a good game but can't back it up. he reminds me so much of james franklin. hope they both stay in their current positions a very long time

btw it's now 8 assistants that left since the end of 2014 season (roughly 14 months) most for lateral jobs or worse. as a bama fan i hope the barn give him a lifetime contract...same with franklin in creepy valley

Here’s a look at each of those eight assistants in a graphic courtesy ofCoachingSearch.com’s Chris Vannini.

Harbison is now the co-DC at UL Lafayette and was joined there by Melvin Smith. Ellis Johnson is now the LB coach at South Carolina.

Great portrait/message Tide.....Where in hell did you ever get a picture like that; It is worth 10,000 words. That grey ship in the back-ground looks like a World War ll Merchant ship going under after being hit by a torpedo.....
part of a paid bama recruiting/fan site. I'm not supposed to post stuff from there elsewhere but that pic was too good not to share :)

Auburn does seem to be in free fall after a huge 2012 season (12-2). When players
and especially assistant coaches start bailing out on any SEC team...there is a problem.
Gus Malzahn is certainly on the hot seat and the 2016 season is looming big for the head coach.

Ole Miss Quarterback

Hugh Freeze and staff just signed one of the top quarterback recruits in the country in 5-star Shea Patterson
from Bradenton, Florida. As a result of Patterson already enrolled and working with the team, two other
quarterbacks quit the team. No matter, Chad Kelly is back for his senior year after setting all kinds of records
last year. Kelly ranked top 10 nationally in 6 statistical categories, most notably total offense (349 ypg), points
responsible for (246), passing yards (4,042) and passing touchdowns (31). Kelly's 4,542 total yards are third
most in a season in SEC history. Kelly's will lead what should be another potent offense against a very difficult
schedule. Ole Miss opens with Florida State in Orlando, then comes Wofford, Alabama, Georgia, Memphis,
Arkansas, LSU, Auburn, Georgia Southern, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt and Mississippi State.

Third option would be keep staff as-is but send Williams to an off-field role
this should be announced in next 48 hours. My guys say Napier is staying and Williams will be moved to a non-recruiting, off-field position with his special teams and tight ends coaching duties going to Cristobal who will have offensive tackles, tight ends, and special teams

Bobby Williams new title is "Special assistant to Nick Saban".

Heard that today. There's a strong bond between these two
and you got to know Nick will make sure Williams is taken care of.

Knew Cristobal's new assignment was tight ends and tackles but
didn't know he had special teams also.

Vanderbilt

The Commodores are just 2-14 in their last 16 SEC games. A major contributor to this dreadful
conference record is lack of a passing attack. The Vanderbilt offense has finished 13th in the
SEC in passing yardage in both 2014 and 2015, averaging a measly 175 yards per game through
the air. When you stretch that out to a comparison of all 128 FBS teams, Vandy checked in at
107th and 112th respectively. So, until something changes, the like of a passing game has been,
and will continue to be Vanderbilt's biggest concern.

Sidenote: Vanderbilt receivers have managed just 12 touchdown receptions in the last 24 games.
For a point of reference on how bad that is, Baylor receivers had 17 touchdown receptions in the
first three games of 2015 alone.

SEC RECRUITING

The Southeastern Conference is made up of teams from eleven states. Most of these eleven states are not considered great recruiting areas simply because they don't provide a large number of elite high school players. However, three states are an exception because of the talent they provide year in and year out. Texas, Florida and Georgia are the cream of the crop for high school talent in the SEC area.

TEXAS: The state of Texas produced 52 4-star and 5-star players. Texas signed just one of the top ten players in the state while Ole Miss and Baylor grabbed two each. Twenty of the 52 blue-chippers went out of state, including four to Alabama and Ole Miss and three to LSU. Interestingly, the SEC signed 13 of the state's top 25 players and 19 of the elite 52.

FLORIDA: There were 42 elite players from the state of Florida, a number which is a bit low as it was a down year in the Sunshine State. Of the 42, 25 stayed in state, with Miami (10), Florida State (8) and Florida (4) leading the way. Auburn was the top out-of-state team landing Florida players with three, while Ole Miss, Ohio State, Tennessee and Clemson each adding two.

GEORGIA: The Peach state featured 25 blue-chippers in 2016. The Bulldogs landed 9 of the 25, a solid effort in the first year under Kirby Smart. Georgia is the only state with major football powers on every border, and it is not realistic to expect the Dawgs to keep everyone home. The SEC did dominate the state signing 19 of the top 24. Auburn was the top out-of-state recruiter signing three, while Tennessee Florida, South Carolina and Clemson getting two. Georgia Tech, the other major school in Georgia signed none.

Will Muschamp was a terrible hire and is going to fall flat on his face.

http://coachingsearch.com/article?a...ur-offensive-leaders-are-He-couldnt-answer-me

“The other day, I asked Kurt Roper in front of the whole team, ‘Who is our offensive leader?’ He couldn’t answer me. So that’s not good. But there are some guys like (offensive lineman) Mason Zandi having a good offseason. We’ve got to develop more. That’s something we’re building as a team and creating a culture you want to have. We’re identifying those guys as we go, but it’s got to happen every day.”

They’re only conditioning drills right now, but he’s looking for the competitors.

“I pointed out this morning to a young man who gave up on a drill, in my opinion. I don’t care whether it’s checkers, you’d better go compete every day,” Muschamp said. “You don’t turn that on and off. That’s what we’re looking for right now.”

2016 SEC West schedule overview....http://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/sec-football/how-crossover-partners-impact-sec-west-race-2016/

Some teams benefit. Others suffer the bad luck. Here’s a look at the impact on the SEC West in 2016.
[h=3]ALABAMA[/h]Permanent partner: Tennessee
2016 crossover: vs. Kentucky
Impact on 2016: The Oct. 15 showdown in Knoxville could feature two unbeaten teams and serve as a preview of the SEC Championship Game.
Alabama has lost just two regular season games vs. SEC East teams under Nick Saban. The most recent loss came in 2010, when Stephen Garcia led South Carolina to a 35-21 victory over the top-ranked Tide in Columbia.
[h=3]ARKANSAS[/h]Permanent partner: Missouri
2016 crossover: vs. Florida
Impact on 2016: Arkansas won’t see the SEC East until November, plenty of time for its overhauled offense to take shape. Arkansas saved its season in 2015 with a win at Tennessee.
[h=3]AUBURN[/h]Permanent partner: Georgia
2016 crossover: vs. Vanderbilt
Impact on 2016: Auburn would have preferred playing Georgia in early September. Instead, the Nov. 12 date in Athens allows Bulldogs freshman QB Jacob Eason time to grow and Nick Chubb time to heal — or Kirby Smart time to figure out a Plan B.
[h=3]LSU[/h]Permanent partner: Florida
2016 crossover: vs. Missouri
Impact on 2016: If you have to play the two teams that combined to win the past three SEC East titles, 2016 is the year to do it. Both opponents are in various stages of rebuilding, Florida most notably because it’s replacing its quarterback and running back from a team that won the division last season.
LSU gets both early enough in the season — Missouri in Week 5, Florida the following week — that growing pains might still be visible.
[h=3]MISSISSIPPI STATE[/h]Permanent partner: Kentucky
2016 crossover: vs. South Carolina
Impact on 2016: Having Kentucky is an annual gift that keeps giving, and the Bulldogs swapped rebuilding Missouri in 2015 for rebuilding South Carolina in 2016. By far the easiest crossover schedule among West teams.
[h=3]OLE MISS[/h]Permanent partner: Vanderbilt
2016 crossover: vs. Georgia
Impact on 2016: Ole Miss hosts Georgia in Week 4, an obvious advantage because of the Bulldogs’ quarterback/injury situations. The potential danger here is it follows the Alabama game, which promises to be emotional one way or another. But Ole Miss has shown it can handle prosperity.
The Rebels knocked off Alabama each of the past two seasons and won their next game.
[h=3]TEXAS A&M[/h]Permanent partner: South Carolina
2016 crossover: vs. Tennessee
Impact on 2016: Bad luck for the Aggies, who get Tennessee and Alabama in consecutive games, separated by a bye week. Want some good news? Texas A&M’s first scheduled game against Georgia (read: Eason) is in 2019, and Eason might be in the NFL by then.

and East....

Here’s a look at how the two cross-over games against the SEC West will impact each SEC East team in 2016.
[h=3]FLORIDA[/h]Permanent partner: LSU
2016 crossover: at Arkansas
Impact on 2016: Arkansas is in rebuilding mode, which benefits the Gators. Florida won’t see Alabama again until 2021.
[h=3]GEORGIA[/h]Permanent partner: Auburn
2016 crossover: at Ole Miss
Impact on 2016: Would have been better to get Ole Miss in 2017, the year after Chad Kelly leaves. Georgia won’t see Alabama again until 2020.
[h=3]KENTUCKY[/h]Permanent partner: Mississippi State
2016 crossover: at Alabama
Impact on 2016: Kentucky has enough skill players in place to make a run at its first winning season in the SEC since 1977 … and this is the year it draws Alabama. Bad luck. At least they get Ole Miss in 2017 — without Chad Kelly — and they won’t see Alabama again until 2023.
[h=3]MISSOURI[/h]Permanent partner: Arkansas
2016 crossover: at LSU
Impact on 2016: Missouri isn’t going to contend for a division title in 2016 anyway, so might as well play a traditional contender on the road. Missouri gets Auburn in 2017 and Alabama in 2018.
[h=3]SOUTH CAROLINA[/h]Permanent partner: Texas A&M
2016 crossover: at Mississippi State
Impact on 2016: The schedule sets up perfectly, two clubs breaking in new quarterbacks — if only the Gamecocks had enough pieces of their own to take advantage of it.
[h=3]TENNESSEE[/h]Permanent partner: Alabama
2016 crossover: at Texas A&M
Impact on 2016: Tennessee faces Florida, Georgia, Texas A&M and Alabama in a four-week gauntlet. Three of those teams, however, likely will have different starting quarterbacks. If Tennessee had South Carolina’s schedule, folks wouldn’t just be talking about an SEC East title, they’d be talking about running the table.
[h=3]VANDERBILT[/h]Permanent partner: Ole Miss
2016 crossover: at Auburn
Impact on 2016: Same two opponents as Georgia, just swapping locations. The Commodores get Alabama in 2017, but at least they won’t have to see any more of Ole Miss QB Chad Kelly.

Not having to meet the Crimson Tide until 2021 will allow the Florida Gators to breath a sigh of relief but it might be a false respite....Sooner or later, if Florida
wants to get a shot at the NC, or, a SEC Championship, which in all probability would give them a shot at a National Title, they must play (and beat)
the best. With the recent increase in the number of schools in the Conference it is impossible to schedule all them all but a (5) year hiatus (not playing Alabama) is a stretch. This observation might be viewed as facing the "facts of life" in the SEC". In recent years a shot at the NC is thru Tuscaloosa via Atlanta.

Florida needs time to rebuild the roster. Winning the East last year was a fluke (the last 6 games shows that). The offensive side of the ball has been in shambles and is short on talent. They need some OL badly, but need playmakers even more so. The recruiting has been weak, even the last 2 years w/ McElwain's staff (2015 was tough as he came in late, but 2016 was unimpressive). As a fan, I'm giving them a pass in 2016 (I hope to see 8 or 9 regular season wins). 2017 is the year I expect them to compete and start winning 9 to 10 games/year w/ a few toss-ups.

As far as betting on Florida, I'd wait to see how the OL and new QB perform. Luke Del Rio or Austin Appleby will very like be the starter, both are transfers and should easily win the job over either of the true freshman they signed. All 4 QBs are enrolled and will participate in spring practice. I expect Del Rio to emerge as the starter. Very excited for the RB position. Just not sure how the OL will be this year.

Two SEC coaching moves:

Alabama: Running backs coach Burton Burns will add special teams coordinator duties, after Bobby Williams was moved to an off-field role as special assistant to the head coach.

Missouri: North Carolina special teams graduate assistant Jonathan Rutledge has joined the Missouri staff as a wide receivers and special teams quality control coach. Rutledge spent two seasons at North Carolina and previously worked with Barry Odom at Memphis.

It appears that Mizzou is trying to renew their football program after concentrating on "rioting & picketing" and other politics on their campus....
What a crock-of-shit that was last Fall (those campus boycotts and protests). Sports and politics don't mix.....It may be (5) years or more before the Tigers recover. The other SEC schools don't go for that horse shit on their campuses.
