Greyshirting
For those of you who aren't familiar, greyshirting is when an incoming freshman delays
enrolling in classes until the second term of his freshman year, which extends his eligibility,
as the NCAA eligibility clock (you have 5 years to play 4 seasons) doesn't begin until
a student is enrolled in classes. There are plenty of recruits who greyshirt, and commit to
a school with the understanding that's exactly what they'll do. Some recruits resist the
effort by a school to greyshirt and go somewhere else given the opportunity to play their
freshman year.
I think the player grey shirting is allowed to enroll in school, he just can't be a full-time student and has to pay his own way. And he's not allowed to be a part of any football activities (even working out with team, eating, etc).
The player mention at Alabama is a good football player. Otherwise, Bama would not have been interested. He's a 6-2, 205 pound linebacker. Now, how many bloody 205 pound linebackers are going to play in the SEC?
Greyshirt was the right move for Bama if the kid wanted to play for the Tide. He didn't and let's see where he turns up.
Good kid...good athlete...sure as hell AIN't ready to join Alabama's No. 1 class.....next year..maybe?
Alabama's No. 1 class comes from 11 states and Washington D.C..
California, Texas, Oklahoma, Maryland, North Carolina, New York, Wash D.C.,
Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi.
In other words, Alabama and most of the top tier SEC teams recruit the best
players nationally. I get so tired of hearing Alabama should recruit well because
of all the players in the SE Region. Right, not like 100 schools don't recruit in
this part of the country.
Life's a bitch...so is college football recruiting.
The kid takes the greyshirt and he would later be on scholarship at Alabama.
His choice..............................
