i don't know, it would be tough for anyone to play after the video came out, even if this was a Peyton Manning. There would be some people who would still try and justify it but the video speaks volumes. Would be hard for any father with daughters to explain why they actually root for the Broncos if this was Peyton.

Plus, don't you think the media crush would be worse if it was an elite QB? Nobody outside of football circles or Baltimore knows who Ray Rice is but what if this was Brady/Giselle in the elevator? This would be 24/7 news not just on sports networks but every news and entertainment show including big news outside the United States. I could not see the Pats keeping Brady if this video came out. It would be such a huge distraction and black mark on the team/owner no matter what he did in the past. Hell, the Pats cut Hernandez before there was even a trial (what if he was acquitted) and the Pats could have desperately used him last year.

I see your point. I think Brady/Manning aren't the best examples though because of their age. If they had to step away from the game for like 2 years or whatever then yeah they would likely be done.

If it was Andrew Luck though, who is a star in the making but not a superstar household name sports figure on the lines of Brady/Manning/LeBron, etc then I think he would get suspended, contract voided, cut but when he was allowed back in the league he would be with a new team, fresh start. After a few years things would die down and a lot of people would forgive him or just become indifferent about it. I can't imagine 1 domestic assault incident killing his entire career at age 25, even if it was on camera for the world to see. We live in a fast paced world and peoples memories/outrage tend to be pretty short-term these days until they move onto the next issue..

Vick wasn't half the player Luck is and while he didn't slug his GF on camera, he did electrocute dogs and was back in the NFL pretty much as soon as he was allowed to be.

While domestic abuse is no joke, not like Rice is the first. David Justice left Halle Berry like 50% deaf in 1 ear and I don't think anyone boycotted the Braves circa late 90s because of it..

I've watched it enough. She smacks him outside the elevator then elbows him in the elevator. He throws one punch, she comes after him, he throws a wide punch with his left hand. Looks like she might have been knocked out from hitting the rail in the elevator. That punch was not a boxers punch.

Why do you and others keep stating this?

First of all, it's complete speculation.

Second, y'all act as if that somehow makes it better?

Crazy logic.

I read they never had the video until today.

Not true.
The nfl begged.. and the police magic@lly obliged to not release it. But that video was seen by everyone in the middle of this mess..

It is pathetic that this wasn't done sooner. And you DON'T BLAME BALTIMORE. You blame ray rice

They are wasted, hitting each other, doing dumb shit. He deserves to be punished but damn, it's like people want him to get the death penalty and never be allowed to play football again just because a video was released. Shit happens, punish him and move on. Everyone is just trying to protect their own ass because of public opinion. His wife has even apologized for the incident.

This coming from a guy that said "sometimes a woman deserves to be hit."

That's all you need to know Vit.

Once again I am not saying men should go around punching women. However no one but those two know exactly what happened that led to the string of events. Even a video does not answer it as we are not hearing words or seeing everything leading up to the actual event.

Would this same level of outrage be there if he hit her out of self defense? Not saying that this is the case here, just wondering hypothetically. As instead of just focusing on the effect which is what everyone is doing, how about looking at the cause to get complete answers as you can't have an effect without one.

I will stand by my belief that the NFL overstepped in suspending him indefinitely as that reeks of a PR move along with retroactive punishment. His termination by the Ravens is punishment enough in terms of the league.

To be honest, the video is a lot less shocking then I thought it would be. I thought he would be beating her senseless. Just one punch after she was hitting him.

"hitting him"

You're beyond ridiculous.

So let me get this straight.......Rice was suspended 2 games and John Harbaugh was proud of him for stepping up and taking responsibility. They knew that he knocked her out cold......the girl was unconscious. Now because the video confirms what everyone already knew, now he's suspended indefinitely and released? I think the latter decision was the right one, but what the fuck? How does this video change anything?

This has already been explained.

Ray Rice lied to the Ravens and the NFL about what transpired in the elevator.

That is how this video changes things.

TMZ Sports reports NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell never requested the elevator security video from the Atlantic City casino where running back Ray Rice punched his now-wife Janay Palmer. The casino tells TMZ they would have provided the video if asked.

But to have to accept the fact that it's reality is a nightmare in itself. No one knows the pain that the media & unwanted options from the public has caused my family. To make us relive a moment in our lives that we regret every day is a horrible thing. To take something away from the man I love that he has worked his ass of for all his life just to gain ratings is horrific. THIS IS OUR LIFE! What don't you all get. If your intentions were to hurt us, embarrass us, make us feel alone, take all happiness away, you've succeeded on so many levels. Just know we will continue to grow & show the world what real love is! Ravensnation we love you!"

Most people equate knocking someone unconscious to "beating her senseless."

Does anyone think ESPN could find someone better then Ray Lewis to discuss this issue?

well it is pretty tough to find an ex-raven without an arrest record...sort of like finding a non wife-beating, pedophilia-loving alaskan

i can think of a couple players who have killed people but are still in the league. I'm not defending rice here but he plays in the nfl. when someone smacks you, you smack them back. The jim irsay incident was a lot worse in my opinion.

If Ray Rice was a white guy who beat a black woman there would be riots going on. Black people are even defending Ray Rice in a lot of cases.
