Great plan. Do you mind telling us your age?

I'm over 55

I wasn't always this way ( what I wrote in my post )

I started last year on this plan with the help of a friend who is a trainer. ( he didn't train me, but helped with things I could do )

Always liked the Junk food more, and did no exercise or working out at all.
Up until i was 45 I was a very active Softball player for 25 years. So my plan last year was to be active and eat Healthy.
Stopped all the Bs food. Once you get that crap out of your system ... it's a breeze .

Protein will fill you up ... when you eat the junk food, you want more.. and get hungry easier. You body wants that sugar.. needs it
once you stop that ( junk food ) you will feel so much better.
Sleep better too ..

Your metabolism will change ... it's Amazing

over a year ago I could look at a Pizza and gain weight ... lol ( well not really ) but you know what i mean.
and I will tell you right now .. where I use to eat 4 slices of Pizza, I now eat only Two... yes and Still lose weight... or at least the weight you would normally gain from those two slices. again because my metabolism has changed.

and like some have said already .. No Crazy Diets ...
If you want any Red Meat, once a week .. lean ... Turkey Burgers are another great meal .. Use Lettuce like a Bun ... a little BBQ sauce, and it Almost tastes like a Hamburger.

another trick with the protein shakes, pb2 powdered peanut butter ... sounds like crap, but it's not. Good protein, and taste fine.

Sprinting is not for weight loss? You can disagree, but it can be used for both with great success. I know he's a beginner, but you have to start somewhere, no different than jogging. Proper warmup and stretching goes a long way. If you want to get really technical, one can get great results on weight loss and fat burning with zero cardio.

Can you lose weight from Sprinting ? guess you can ... but it's more to form muscle mass in your legs faster ... but it will still help your metabolism and increase your heart rate ... so it will help you lose weight. But Fast Walking, light jogging is better IMO.

Yes I agree you can lose weight without Cardio. But Your Diet will be harder and not too good on your body.

I think we can also agree that Everyone is different, and one thing might help a few people, and other things won't help others.

Dude just start drinking a ton of beer. It will really make you lean.........

.......against tables, chairs and ugly women.

For real, start drinking a ton of water.

If you're really looking for drastic weight loss give intermittent fasting a try but it's a serious lifestyle change. I did it for a month or two and lost 20 lbs easy. It's pretty hard to maintain if you have an active social life but if you work 9-5 during the week it's not bad.

Exactly, and that why weight training trumps cardio, even for losing weight.

They taste good, but they're highly overpriced processed junk.

Cardio is not the answer for someone who wants to lose weight and get in shape.

Afterall, there are millions of people doing cardio everyday and our society is fatter than ever!

People need to be educated on fitness with real information that works.
As to those people who think I am crazy?

Any specific cardio exercise that one does (treadmill, bike, stairmachine, running, etc) will burn a small amount of calories during the exercise and then cease to burn additional calories within hours after the exercise is completed.

By eliminating the cardio exercise we will still achieve the cardio benefits of working the heart, lowering blood pressure and cholesterol and we will also help stabilize blood sugar levels. At the same time we will utilize more energy (calories) and burn more fat while also increasing our metabolic rate by having more lean, firm and toned muscle. The end result will always be a lean, firm and fit body with the capabilities of staying that way.

Let me explain how this works by asking you a question.
If you were to take apart a living room wall unit and lay the pieces on the floor and then begin to put that wall unit back together. Could you rebuild that wall unit WITHOUT using any energy at all?
The answer is obviously NO.
Any activity is going to utilize energy and even though you expended energy taking that wall unit apart, you will expend more energy rebuilding it because it will take more time to do that.

Now lets look at a Challenging Strength Training workout that lasts just one hour a day. During that hour you will expend more energy then you expend walking or running on a treadmill. Why? Because you are engaging more muscle and your intensity level is higher. But here is the kicker and the reason why strength training and a properly implemented nutritional program for recovery and rebuilding is more effective at melting away fat than cardio is.

During a great workout the body breaks down tissue. Following the workout the body works hard to rebuild that muscle tissue and in order to adapt to the demands that you placed on the muscle, even builds additional muscle tissue, providing you are ingesting the right foods and the right amounts.
This process takes between 48-72 hours and during that time the body is utilizing tremendous amounts of energy to rebuild and recover. It is this energy (calories) that is helping us burn our bodyfat stores and get in great shape.
We are also building new shapely muscle which is going to increase our metabolic rate and even burn more fat and help us stay fit and healthy for years to come.

So why cut back on the cardio?
Simply because the first thing that the cardio will burn is ingested calories and we want those quality calories to be utilized to build muscle after a workout, therefore allowing us to burn more fat.

unless you're marathon runner, cyclist, fighter, etc., to hell with spending massive amounts of time on cardio. But, yes, we're all different so to each their own as there are countless things out there that work. Key are eating right and that you're actually doing something. That sets you apart already from this obese society we now live in that is getting worse and worse...

I disagree with this, unless I'm reading it wrong ... Sprinting is not for weight loss

Also you are talking about a beginner here ... He should be Fast Walking, which is one of the best ways to speed up your metabolism, while not get hurt.
This will help you lose weight, get in shape while being on a diet.

op should get himself a heart rate monitor watch like a Fitbit ( which is what I started with ) * I'm about to move on to a Polar FT7 Watch on Monday.

Anyway, find your target Heart rate ... it goes by Age and there are different levels ( zones ) to where you want to be.
Low intensity, moderate intensity, vigorous intensity and the aerobic zone.

Start out doing about 1/2 mile ... 3-5 times a week, after about Two weeks move to a mile ... couple of weeks later you can move to 1.5 miles or even 2 miles.

as for a Diet ... Eat your Heart out on Lean Protein ... Chicken & Fish is the best .. FRESH Turkey breast ... Not Boars Head.. FRESH ( No Bread ) lettuce wraps if you need to feel like you are eating a Sandwich. otherwise find a Deli that makes Fresh Turkey ... snack on it, eat it for Lunch, whatever...
Go buy yourself a couple of pounds of Chicken Cutlets, Grill them all, and use in a Salad ... are snack. or even with Brown Rice and some veggies

For the Mornings ... Protein Shakes ...I'm going to give you one of the best to buy.. ON Platinum Hydro Whey, has 30 grams of Protein .. without all the crap in it.
comes in a few flavors
Almond Milk ... Plain or vanilla, 1 cup in a Blender ... one scoop of powder, add a banana, Ice and blend...

Hope this helps

my body is so use to years of crap, that when I try to eat better/less, I start getting headaches. Guess I just have to deal with that until my body gets used to it?

And building lean muscle helps to burn fat at an increased rate. It mention, leg muscle, your biggest muscle in the body. You want to quicken results, work out your legs, it triggers everything else to fall into place. The look on pencil legs face when he finally starts to work legs after wondering why he's plateaued on upper body strength and not realizing working out legs also triggers it. I used to dread leg workouts too, but they're key to overall success.

Yep, also as FTRaven mentioned, drink lots of water. It should help with the headaches and such. If your piss is always clear, you're probably now getting enough water...

What's up with that online versus store price crap anyways? I noticed that yeaterday while buying pet food at Petsmart that their store price is now $6 more per bag than the online price. I always order online because they send 10% extra codes off a lot, but it's BS really.

They have to match the Online price ... well I guess if you get a hard ass, maybe not
Stores have a number that they want to beat from the year before. Managers get pissed that the online price is cheaper.. taking away sales from their Store.
Any time I go to these stores, if they have an online store, I always ask for that price, and 9 out of 10 times they give it to you.

For the cardio i do interval running. 90 seconds jog/run 30 second sprint at 9.5 speed on tredmill. Just got to find your own pace. Start small and it will develop overtime if you stick to it.

Usually starting is the hard part. Forcing yourself through those first two weeks where routine isn't routine yet. Just forcing yourself to do it everyday for two weeks usually will turn it into a routine.

You're not alone . Don't be hard on yourself . Many people are in the -'I can't seem to lose weight , even though I starve myself ' group

of course , I don't know you ,can write in generalizations only. Modern medicine is evolving - to treat the INDIVIDUAL , rather than a cookie cutter mentality

my previous post said various factors play a role in getting the body back to controlling it's weight . Diet is one factor only . IF you are eating well and not losing weight ? You have to address other factors . Again I'm assuming you are eating well -pressed the re-set and shut down carbs (20-25 % of daily intake, no grains , no pasta )and still no change ?

other factors I mentioned in my previous post;

- sleep : quality is extremely important. It's when the body heals/repairs . Is your
sleep good ? Wake up refreshed ? Do you snore ? Daytime tiredness ? Sleep apnea can lead to significant health issues . Can make losing weight very challenging as cortisol levels remain chronically high . Promotes systemic inflammation

-gut microbiome - this is a biggie . We have more gut bacteria than cells in our body ; 10:1 ratio . We r a planet for these Bacteria . We need them . BUT we need the good ones . If you have gut 'dysbiosis ' or 'leaking gut syndrome ' efforts to lose weight will be grossly challenging . Modern medicine has the tools to test this . Things you can do to encourage a healthy gut microbiome : eat fiber , prebiotics, probiotics . A functional medicine chap can really help you here

-exercise - again , combine hiit and cardio . Add muscle - fuel your muscles . Don't need to go to a gym!! Body weight exercises.
