Unless you invest for the long-run trading is not that different than sports gambling. You are taking a risk that your prediction will come true. If it does, you profit. If it does not, you lose money.

I prefer investing to sports gambling as I see it as easier since you don't have the juice to pay. However, it has many pitfalls as any risk system does. My advice would be to take whatever money you can afford to lose (same goes for sports gambling) and make some investments, even if it is for a couple hundred dollars at a time so you can learn how the market works. Keep in mind that if you trade frequently the commissions on trades can eat up that small amount.

Or, if you don't wish to potentially lose money there are web sites around that will allow you to trade for free. I choose to invest real money because it gives me the actual feelings that go along with investing and that is a part of the game.

If you are serious I would suggest trying to find some good investment forums. This one at theRX is rather weak even though there are some experience investors here.

Good luck in whatever you do.

I'm never really comfortable. I'm still making mistakes but the money I'm using is money I can afford to lose.

I have only been trading a couple years.

I've been paying attention to the USDJPY relationship and how the market moves. On Friday the USDJPY dipped in the afternoon and recovered later in the day. I take that to mean that the market would open higher on Monday which it did (although dropped shortly after). This was even after futures were down over 100 points on Sunday.

Today (Monday) we saw the same thing. USDJPY dipped in the afternoon and recovered later. Does this mean the market will be up on Tuesday?

Yes, the market was up again early Tuesday but faltered later on. This does not look like a bullish market to me. It looks propped up at the open or toward the close but has sagged in the middle.

The USDJPY indicator was rather strange today. It went lower but toward the end of the market it went up slightly. Still, overall it was in a downward trend so I am guessing we will see the market down on Wednesday morning even with the little upswing. I almost posted that I bought FAZ at the end of the day but that little raise on the USDJPY scared me off.

It will be interesting to see how the market opens on Wednesday morning.

The market opened lower today (Wednesday) and was mostly down in the morning. The USDJPY was in a "W" formation. Like Friday and Monday the latter part of each day it was going up. That means that the market should open up on Thursday morning.

The market was way down Thursday morning so I missed this one. What happened is that the USDJPY dropped in the middle of the night. In other words, it lost its momentum before the market opened.

I still like to think it's directly related to the general market. It just may not be a good leading indicator over night, especially when things can change between the US market close and the US market open.

FAZ continued to drop after I sold it but bounced back big when the market dropped off a cliff at the end of the trading day and then continued to climb to 17.34 after hours. So I missed a good opportunity if I would have held on to it. That's part of trading I guess.

OLO is a pro oil ETF. Oil went down shortly after I bought this and thought I would have to take a loss. I was lucky enough to wait it out until it went up and made a little bit on it.

Even though the market was up Thursday I took another chance on FAZ. The market overall is looking weak to me and when Spain was downgraded I figured financials would continue to go down, even after the initial drop.
