Pretty dumb switch by Noel and Covington there......RC defended Melo well all game .....no reason to switch ......not sure the thought process there.
I don't watch must B-ball but I've clipped toenails that have more common sense than the Sixers or the 27 walking dead coaches they now have on the bench. You would think with the 37 timeouts Brett Brown calls every game they'd get a few things right. Fortunately Ish Smith is a winner. Anyway, the play-by-play guy always asks the color analyst the same question, "You're up 3, do you foul here?" And the answer is always a discussion of philosophy, which is stupid..... Here is the correct answer - When leading by 3 with your opponent possessing the ball (1) if opponent is advancing toward your basket with momentum and can immediately go into a shooting motion if you touch him then you don't. However (2) if opponent is face up to you, man to man and OBVIOUSLY intending to stay behind the 3 point line until he can raise up and shoot, AND the opponent is also the go to guy on the other team, and he is dribbling and the clock is melting 7,6,5,4 then if you have some semblance of an IQ you slap his fucking hand! You don't need Mike D'Antoni or some other knucklehead to tell you that! Fouling Mello there gives Sixers 99% chance to win. Don't foul Mello and.....
I can't disagree with your comments on Sixers coaching staff.
However, basketball IQ of the players come into play here. Noel is not normally defending perimeter players and why Covington switched there, I don't know but I'm sure Brown instructed no switches off Melo and to go over top of any screen....at least I hope. Also, these pros can draw some players into a shooting foul in those spots.....I'm sure Noel was thinking that as well. Either way, that's just what bad teams do unfortunately.

I had a good read on Mello's body language. Vit it's really hard for a defender to make a mistake when the guy who is going to shot has his eyes and neck pointed to the floor. Plenty of time to bump him. Even if the ref is in FU Sixers mode I'd rather demand Mello go 3for3 from the stripe then give him the open look at a 3-ball. Some smart coaches are even bright enough to saddle up to the crew chief during a TO and inform him, "If they get into a set play we're going to foul the guy with the ball (as he's dribbling)." Only the worst teams don't get out of there in regulation with a W.
I really can't disagree with what you're saying.....I truly think Noel was scared to foul behind the 3 point line, but I blame the switch. Covington may have been able to play it better and foul. Typical Sixers stuff....I was more shocked that Okafur didn't see one minute of time in 4th and overtimes. He was having his way with Knicks front court. I'm confused with what the staff is trying to do.. I guess it's a matchup thing. Here is the scary part....if Imbid gets healthy and Saric comes over.....with picks coming this year, I really think the Sixers will have built something there. Noel will be prob be odd man out and traded because him and Okafur play terrible together.
Okafur did something that put him in Brown's doghouse? That's my guess as I only watched last minute of Reg + 2OTs.
I was unsure whether it would be more appropriate to post this on this thread or my own "I suck" thread. But here goes...
Sometimes, good opportunities come along. Opportunities
which are too good to pass up.
I was sitting in the sports book at the Hilton/Westgate/whatever the fuck they call themselves nowadays over the weekend (btw, great book...check it out if you haven't yet). I saw Carolina at +500 to win the SB. I put in a large play on that with my local, and am planning on playing them each game the rest of the way. They remind me a lot of Seattle from two years ago, and I had never been more confident of a play in my life than that game. If they end up playing the Pats, I see a ton of similarities between this SB and the one from two years ago, but we'll get to all that once the matchup is determined.
For reasons I won't get into now, I'm completely convinced it's the Panthers' year. Will wait to see the line and matchup, but if it's what I think it'll be, I won't hesitate to put 10k or more on them.
