IB I think that is an extremely good point. There is an extremely difficult challenge of balancing liberties with security. Being too tilted towards either direction is dangerous. The difference between liberty and life is that liberty is a vague concept. There are different ways to perceive liberty, and what exactly constitutes it. For example, I feel I have complete liberty, while others here obviously do not. What specific rights make up "liberty."
In my opinion, you can give up on some rights and still maintain liberty. Some people may not agree.

Life on the other hand there is nothing vague about. You are either alive or your not. You either live in fear that you can be killed at any moment or you do not. There is no halfway or anything to compromise in terms of life.

I appreciate, however, your thoughtful and civil discussion, as opposed to some other members.

Iget, I used to be able to go to an airport 45 minutes before my flight. After 9/11 I had to get there 4 hours before my flight. That makes those 6 am flights so nice.

While I'm wandering around the airport at 2 am I got to watch the rangers wander around with M16A2's and M203's. I actually asked them what they are doing with M203's since the round doesn't have enough distance to arm in most airports. Never mind the fact if it did the blast radius would take out many innocents.

I don't know what the American airports look like today. Last time I was in one was in Oct, right after 9/11. I didn't let the door hit me in the ass. While the nazis are destroying the constitution and bill of rights piece by piece, I won't be back either.

Speaking of airports in other countries, one time a friend and I were standing in line at an international airport. We were smoking cigars and drinking beer. Some Americans behind us asked us, "what the hell do you think you're doing?" I said, "if you don't like freedom go back to America."

Want to hear a nice story about "freedom".

A few months back I was picking up my wife & baby son from JFK. Now in case you haven't been to JFK ... the exits are fuking HUGE open spaces with glass windows all in the front & two rows of benches in the middle - it must be 30 yards wide. Well, anyways, I was carrying my son walking near the glass windows when some old Chinese lady tried to go out the Emergency Exit & set the alarm off. Ok, no biggie a few NYPD officers run over help the lady out and procede to shut off the alarm. I'm about 10 yards from them - no problem the NYPD is actually pretty friendly. So all of a sudden I hear "hey you, move to the middle of the aisle" .. I figured it was for the Chinese lady .. so I took a few more steps ... and now I hear loudly "hey, i said get in the aisle" ...
I look over an some Muther ****er in an Army outfit has his gun pointed at me ...

.. I didn't know wtf to do, so in classic Lander fashion I said "What are you going to do? Shoot me?" I mumbled "****ing psycho" and kept walking ... some other Army guy stepped in between and told the guy to relax and the NYPD looked at me dumbfounded - one of them just shrugged like a "holy crap .. sorry dude" kind of shrug.

I don't feel safer with these psychos in camoflauge .. they're anti-social & don't belong near civilians. Put a thousand NYPD there - I'm all for that .. but these Army idiots are only making it worse.
