A closer look at the featherweights:

The featherweight division gold medal could be determined on the first day of the competition. Arguably two of the best fighters in the class are set to face off as European and World Champion Albert Selimov of Russia faces highly ranked Vasyl Lomachenko of the Ukraine. These two have faced off before and it has been close with a slight edge to Selimov.

Uzbekistans Bahodirijon Sultonov is another top contender and he hopes those two take a lot out on each other as he should face the winner in the next round. Cuba's Idel Torriente is on the other half of what looks like a weak draw outside of the top three's sectional. China's Yang Li is a dark horse longshot. Torriente's first round opponent deserves mention, if only for his name: Prince Octopus Dzanie of Ghana.

US Outlook: Raynell Williams could benefit from a favorable draw but will have to get past France's Khedafi Djelkhir in the second round. If he can do get past him and his first round opponent Italy's Alessio Di Savino, he could be a surprise medalist.

Betting outlook:

With three of the top four facing each other in the first two bouts, it was hard to find one to back at such short odds. Selimov should be the class of the field, but his first two bouts are huge tests. In keeping with looking for a longshot that has a shot at going far, the choice was obvious.

Bets:
Idel Torriente +1050

A closer look at the lightweight division:

The lightweight competition was severely diluted when Great Britain's Frankie Gavin failed to make weight. Gavin was expected to contend for a medal and his absence leaves precious little excitement in this weight class. Russia's Alexey Tischenko is the clear class of this field. He is also one of the few European or World Champs that drew a favorable draw. Tishchenko will not face a top 5 ranked opponent until the finals if at all.

Several contenders stack up in the bottom half to see who will face Tischenko in the finals, should he make it there. Cuba sends Pan-Am games gold medal winner Yordenis ugas. North Korea has their best chance at a medal with Song-Guk Kim. Host country China also has a contender in Qing Hu. Italy's Domenico Valentino has a shot at the podium as well. Any of these four could make the finals.

US outlook:
Sadam Ali is a bit inexperienced on the international stage and likely a bit too raw to contend. He faces Romania's Georgian Popescu, a beatable opponent, in the first round.

Betting outlook for lightweights:

With Gavin's absence, the other top contenders get that much stronger. Tischenko has an incredibly weak half of the bracket and should sail through to the finals. Picking his opponent could be akin to taking a name out of a hat, might as well get some good odds.

Bets:
Alexey Tishchenko +170 (Double bet)
Song-Guk Kim +1600

i cant seem to find the lines....
Not sure this answers your question..i think you may mean Dobs picks..
But so far no lines avail on individual matchups yet..you have to bet winner of the division as a Olympic future bet before that division starts..us USA guys are using 5 Dimes as far as I know for our "predictions"

Dont know what you cats got with Betfair, Bet365, Canbet etc...

Comments on first session of Featherweight and Lightweight:

Best match so far was Ukraine's Lomachenko getting revenge as a small underdog over World Champ Selimov of Russia. Lomachenko steamrolled through him and is now the clear favorite. He has a tough bout with Asian Games champ Sultonov of Uzbekistan in the next round, but should he win will be clear sailing to the finals in the featherweights.

USA's Raynell Williams looked impressive in his first round win. Williams has a tough bout in France's Djelkhir next round, with the fighters having contrasting style. The winner of that fight should get at least a bronze. Cuba's Idiel Torrente fights in the latter session.

In the lightweight division, favorite Tischenko of Russia won a workmanlike 10-2 decision. Tischenko looked to be the clear class of the top half of the bracket. Two fighters looked impressive in the bottom half and will face each other in the second round. Italy's Domenico Valnetino and Cuba's Yordenis Ugas both overwhelmed their opening round opponents and will face off next in what should be an entertaining bout.

USA's Sadam Ali fought in the second session. I will watch that this afternoon and have comments tonight as well as a preview of the next day's action.

A closer look at the Bantamweight class:

World champ Sergey Vodopyanov of Russia heads up a rather weak bantamweight field. Defections to other weight classes and the failure to make weight by the United States' Gary Russell leave this division as perhaps the least talented in Beijing. Outside of Vodopyanov, Thailand's Worapoj Petchkoom and Mongolia's Enkhbat Badar-Uugam are the only top five ranked bantamweights in he field. Longshots include Germany's Rustamhodza Rahimov, France's Ali Hallab, and Great Britain's Joseph Murray.

US take: Gary Russell failed to make weight and withdrew.

Betting outlook:

Not a lot of fighters to get excited about in this division. Vodopyanov's toughest fights may be his first two where Puerto Rico's Joe Arroyo and Hallab should face him. Petchkoom is on the other side of the bracket and his stiffest tests will come from Rahimov and Cuba's Yankiel Leon. I like the way the draw sets up for these two and hope to see them in the finals.

Bets to win Gold Medal:
Sergey Vodopyanov +210 2 units
Worapoj Petchkoom +2000

A closer look at the Flyweight division:

This should be one of the most competitive divisions at the Olympic. Raushee Warren gives the US a good shot at a gold and is the odds on favorite. Severely other contenders should give him a run for his money though. European champ Georgy Balakshin has a draw that should see him cruise to the semifinals. Puerto Rico's McWilliams Arroyo and little known Cuban Andris Laffita should face off in the opposite semifinal. A battle of top five flyweights highlights the opening round with Juan Carlos Pavano of the Domincan Republic squaring off against Jerome Thomas of France. Samir Mammadov of Azerbaijan and Somjit Johnjohor of Thailand should face off in the second round to cement the last spot.

Fireworks should ensure in the semis as four of the top five seem likely to go through in this division.

Betting outlook:

Very competitive division and all the contenders have draws that should see them through to the late stages. I wanted to back Thomas of France but did not feel I was getting the right price on him. Going to sit this one out and just root for the hometown boy Warren to bring home the gold.

No bets.(for now)

Watched the second half of coverage finally, although all it did is piss me off. Apparently NBC has determined that showing every other fight, showing repeats of fights they already showed, having Atlas and Papa question the scoring EVERY FUCKING round, and trying to stir up shit with the US coach is the ticket to ratings success.

Here's a hint: just show the fucking bouts as they happen and tell us who won. Makes me wish for that silent internet broadcast, which they haven't had for boxing.

Anyway what I saw: Sadam Ali of the US got a boxing lesson and is going home. One less US boxer we have to waste time on as he was completely dominated 20-5. Song-Guk Kim of North Korea lost in an upset to Daouda Sow of France. Kim looked terrible and for a former Olympic and World Champion medalist he was a huge disappointment. Valentino-Ugas next round should be good as should Qin-Akshalov. Again, this division is pretty weak.

Unfortunately we did not get to see much of the featherweights. Idiel Torriente of Cuba was pretty impressive. I wanted to check out his next opponent, Mongolia's Ehkzorig Zoriqbattar, but NBC in thier infinite wisdom decided to show Raynell Williams fight and interview for the 18th time instead so we have no idea how good he is.
