ROVE: Not really. Take a look 2004. If you, Kerry-I mean Bush-Cheney raised a lot of money, but not a heck of a lot more than Kerry-Edwards. The RNC by a pretty good margin outraised the Democratic National Committee but if you then add in the Democratic and Republican 527 groups, the advantage swings dramatically to the Democrats. And in 2004, they outraised us and outspent us by $121 million. And that's taking into account, which you really can, what the unions do which, unless they tell us, is hidden from public view.



Rove is clearly factoring in the 527s and the mega unions which rack up a large chunk of change (AFL-CIO, NEA, etc..) which aren't included on the Open Secrets page.

Random observations

Karl Rove is a political genius that cites facts and knows what he's talking about. Anybody that discounts the words of Karl Rove is naive.

As for money spent, there are a great many more sources than the campaigns themselves, and anyone who wants to discuss this topic seriously should know that. Having said that, whatever advantage the Democrats had from third party expenditures in the past will probably exist today. the Dems benefit a lot more from 527s, unions and such.

It's possible the RNC may have more money than the DNC, they did at one point, but I don't know if that's the case today.

The fact that the Democrats had the benefit of more money being spent for their causes in 2004 is an absolute truth.
