I believe in recent years the committee has set the precedent by choosing the 4 best teams and tagging the SEC as the top conference while defending their choices.
With that knowledge in hand, I would think the champion of that conference is in. (Alabama)
Michigan is definitely in at 13-0.
Washington I think is a lock also. They have some impressive wins albeit at the time of the polls but the wins they have over those teams aided in their opponents being dropped in the rankings.
Texas has the win against Alabama, which didn't look that good 4 weeks into the season but looks really good now as Alabama has trended upward the last 8+ weeks!
FSU did what they were asked to do every week for 13 weeks and ended up 13-0. The ACC was down this year and that 13-0 really isn't impressive, but nonetheless it's 13-0!
If the committee chooses the 4 best teams it is simple it would be Michigan Texas Alabama and Georgia, because each of those teams would be favored over Washington and FSU on a neutral field.
Now we all know that won't happen. So, what is the answer?
It is my opinion that Michigan is #1.
It is my opinion that they make Washington #2
It is my opinion they make Alabama #3
It is my opinion they make Texas #4
I will understandably take criticism for this post but this is just a hypothesis based on what I have seen in prior years selection.
No need to keep debating each others predictions as we will find out soon enough what the playoff will be.
Any way you slice it, the expansion came 1 year too late!
Oh, by the way, the better question might be if there was a 8 team playoff this year.....how would you rank those 8 teams?
