Fri 11am

Ghana won the 2009 u20 world cup and lost in penalties in the final of last year's u20 african qualifying tourney vs Egypt. watched France in their local Toulon tourney and while they're a decent club getting 4/1 on Ghana is hard to pass up. Ghana super experience and their strikers and defenders alone have a combined 47 u20 team caps. gotta deal with ex-united now Juventus forward, Paul Pogba, of France of course...

Ghana .5u +410 and .5u on +1/2 +120

+0.75 -110 obviously safer bet but rather split a unit up b/w outright win and win/draw option

a couple of notes from my u20 WC research...for today I have spain straight (took -194 and price is blowing up) win and ghana

tossing out USA and Mexico the rest of Concacaf are a joke here. last four tourneys combined are 6-4-29 27/94

only worse is Oceania since Australia got moved out before the 2007 tourney. Combined NZ and Tahiti are 0-2-7 3/29. although to be fair New Zealand is a less miserable 0-2-4 on their own...but still haven't won a match or got out of the group in the past 3 tournaments

was reading a clip that mentioned the african u20 winners, Egypt (beat Ghana in penalties) are missing most of that team for the world cup...looking for more info on this.

My thoughts on USA's u20...

nothing new for USA getting a Group of Death at the finals of a major tournament. You've got Euro u19 champs, Spain, African finalists and u20 world cup winners from 2009, Ghana, and the always solid France u20 group. So I certainly don't expect them to advance from this group and would be happy with 2-3 points though a 0-1-2 2/7 or so is more likely.

they didn't even make the tourney in 2011 which after the miserable 2009, 1-0-2 (didn't get out of group), wasn't a big deal. They actually won their group in both 2005 and 2007 and made it all the way to the quarters in 2003 so things are on a big of a decline all around.

This team isn't really the best the u20's have to offer. Packwood (Birm), Brooks (Hertha) and Pelosi (Lpool) would definitely be starters if they weren't injured or uninterested, starting center back O'Neill is suspended for Spain match, and Luis Gil enters the tourney with a possible head injury so that's 4 key players right there. Gil, Cuevas, and Villareal are probably the best offensive guys they have...Villareal, in particular, can use the tourney as a springboard for Europe. Cuevas is always injuredy but very speedy winger and can cause problems for any defense.

Gil and Villareal (and I think also Cuevas) didn't play in the Toulon tourney but the USA was really poor. Hammered by an avg France team and then a solid loss to Colombia and Korea so that should temper anyone's expectations for Turkey.

So I'm hoping they lose today then beat France and Ghana but not expecting any win actually so anything positive will be a pleasant surprise

Today's match will see a makeshift defense with a right back, Miller, playing in central defense. Missing guys like Pelosi and Packwood that were important in qualifying really hurts and having O'Neill suspended against Spain is a rough way to start. Spain is favored to win this tournament for the first time since 1999. They've made it out of group stage for every tourney they have qualified for since 1989 including the quarters in 2011. They only have one played with more than 4 u20 caps so not as experienced as USA but they are part of every major club you can think of like City, Real Madrid, Barca, Atletico, Liverpool, and Valencia. USA have just 3 European based players, 4 more in Mexico...the rest either in US colleges or largely MLS reserve league. For betting, the line is way too crazy now but if 0-0 HT I'd jump on Spain 2H

Great stuff RT.....Ghana looked lively in the first half, but not real organized in the back. I will be surprised if they can keep a clean sheet. US will struggle against both of these (as well as Spain). I see a 0-0-3 result very possible.

geez jese and deulofeu are incredible up front for spain....of course one is in barcelona's youth system, the other real madrid's system

3-0 HT Spain...

although Ghana "only" lost 3-1 it was much worse than that...very poor tip to drop me to 32-2-12 in the thread and 171-13-121 ytd.

looking at brazil u2.5 for tomorrow but haven't taken anything yet in either the cups or MLS this weekend

11am

Greece u20 +1 goal 1u +100

- Mexico were awesome in qualifying but like El Tri are struggling this year. They were horrible in the Toulon tournament and even conceded playing 2 men up. They definitely have more attacking talent and experience than Greece but the Greeks had a great u19 tourney last year losing in finals to Spain. Lots of Greek fans will be at this one

lost the .5u bosnia...

today took usa u20 .27u to win 2.00u (while france are rightful favs I can't pass up the +745 as a homer)

so korea u20 +1/2 1u to win 1u (saw portugal in toulon and they have big problems with defending. korea solid game 1 performance and draw is not a bad result in this one)

Could have (maybe should have) cashed that +745 ticket on the US....very good performance by Tab Ramos' boys. South Korea line is moving up.

US played well...horrible penalty by Gil. that was the killer. 1-1 and on the front foot for final 25' would have been great. as it is they are probably headed home because of goal difference unless they're able to hammer Ghana coupled with Spain doing the same to the French who will be without Pogba. A 3-0 USA win coupled with a 2-0 Spain win would advance the USA. A 2-0 USA win coupled with a Spain 3-0 win would mean the USA and French draw lots to advance

So Korea 2-2 final...so won some money today
