Driving a '21 CX-9 signature now, fucking awesome car. Almost bought the CX-5 - nice car - just a little small for me.

Unbeatable for the money imo. Damn good looking car to be a SUV as well. Glad you're enjoying it. The CX-5 was my first Mazda, and I will not hesitate to buy another one. I've always known about the brand, but I honestly wish I'd given them a chance earlier, however, I loved my old Hondas, but you couldn't make me buy a new one, the Mazda is way better...

Wife drives a CRV. Nice car, but we always take the CX-9 :)

I was always a Nissan sedan guy; Altima 2 door coupe and Maxima. Took a flyer on a Subaru Legacy Limited 3.6R last lease and absolutely loved it. Needed something bigger this time around, they offered hell of a deal on an Ascent but it's just so damn ugly. But yeah you can completely pimp out a Subaru or Mazda and still be cheaper out the door than base level on the premium brands. You're buying the emblem. The CX-9 looks awesome, drives like a dream, and has literally every single feature that exists except wireless Carplay. For <50k it was a no brainer.

How did you like the Legacy compared to the Maxima?

I used to love a Maxima as well, but the switch to the CVT transmission did it in for me. Nissan seems to be back on track switching back to a ZF 9 speed tranny in the trucks and SUVs now, so hoping the cars follow suit...

Never been into the Subbies too much myself because the interior is just meh and always has been, plus, I used to own a Mitsu Evo, and it responds to aftermarket mods incredibly better than the STI( I had one of the fastest stock turbo ones in the country when I built it). The Evo has been discontinued, I thought about an STI, but just can't do it, another reason why I wish Mazda would bring the Mazdaspeed banner back...

Prefer the driving dynamics of the Max but the ride quality of the Legacy. Depends how you drive. The Legacy is more supple and comfortable IMO, which is more conducive to how I drive now. In my 20s it would have been the Max hands down.

I believe they stopped making the Legacy in 6-cylinder though; even top trim is a turbo 4. Back when I got my Legacy (2018) the 4 was a no-go for me - too pokey - but it was not a turbo. So I opted for the 6.
Can't comment on the new Legacy turbo 4 and how it drives.

Built like a POS with inferior components, though...

one thing is for certain, most of their owners rave about them. Met a guy at a conference, a car aficionado- u name it he has had it. Porsche, BMW, Audi..i. Asked him about his experience with his Telsa; best car ive ever driven . yikes. And he bought early, so risking the newer tech that will need tweaking and what not

anyway, want a EV for casual driving- save on fuckin' car repairs and gas. Inflation is on its way bro, just wait . Reports have shown their durability and savings , i'll give it a go; have been waiting for the tech to advance , specifically the battery adn range .....and cost to drop--its happening .

Have you test driven one? fuck, its a rocket ship!!!

I'd take a Mazda 6 over both of them. Only thing the 6 lacks is AWD, and now that they've brought the turbo engine on board the 6 as well, I have no idea why they haven't paired the AWD with it as well. Other than that, just like just about every Mazda in it's respected class, it' very hard to beat for the money...

If the name KIA in itself doesn't bother you, the Telluride is a badass midsize SUV with awesome looks and features to boot, and the 3rd row is more practical than the CX-9. I'd choose it over any of the luxury brands as well, and the options and price tag destroys all of them without question...
True.
Willie if you are going to have adults riding in the 3rd row the CX-9 might be a little small for you. 3rd row is tight. I'd seriously consider a Telluride if that's the case.
If the 3rd row is for little children, or will be rarely used - and you want something you have fun driving - I'd look at the CX-9.

I absolutely love how fast electric cars are (world's fastest car is now one), but as stated, the Tesla is built with inferior components and put together like a POS. It's true, look at how the panels align, especially the interior ones. I could build a car in my garage and do better...

EV is just not for me, I hope I'm dead and gone before that becomes the only option. It's gonna be way worse on everything when it's all said and done, imo...

If it's ever forced down my throat, it won't be a Tesla, that is for sure. It's like BMW and Mercedes etc we all were just talking about, it's a logo, and they'll be way better options out there at a fraction of the cost soon enough...

We're completely on the same page, deciding between these two would be it for me. Driving the others isn't even necessary, unless you wanna include the Hyundai Palisade, which is basically a Telluride...

I have the CX-5, love it, now with two kiddos, it's not as practical as it was with one, but it will suffice. I definitely made the right decision to put $20k+ in my pocket and forgo the "luxury brands." Mazda's new motto is to go after the luxury brands at a bargain price, and they're doing a mighty fine job of it...

All the X series BMWs are built in my hometown, and you couldn't pay me to buy one. It is a car meant to be leased, and that's not for me...

My only gripe about Mazda is they lost the Mazdaspeed banner, and I'd love to have a Mazdaspeed CX-5 meant to be like an M series BMW for a fraction of the cost, but it's still no slouch. They're said to be producing an inline 6 that may come close to that, so we shall see, though...

Of all the luxury brands I plan on looking at, BMW may be at the bottom of the list. Don't like the look much, my daughter tells me I won't like the handle

The third row in all the midsized SUV's is small, they're just going to have to deal with it :). Like they do now

It's important that there's tons of space for two rows. What I want
Fast
Smooth
Quite
Comfortable
Luxury
All the bells and whistles

Other than that I'm open minded

no doubt as tech drives the price down (battery mostly, TSLA has plans for a $25,000 car to market in 2 yrs). The Chinese have one on the market for $6,200 ,lol..its tiny , has its niche.

And every big player is now in;

Bingo. And you can pocket $20k+ from staying away from the “luxury brands” because you just found it all in the CX-9. It’s a no brainer for me...

Surprised non of you guys buy American!? I've always have and always will buy American. Had a Mustang early on but got rid of it because the insurance was freaking insane! A young guy with a 'Stang in the GTA, was paying over 5k a year in the 90's! My Malibu had it for over 13 years and over 300,000 km. My Cobalt paid it cash all in for 16K. 11 years and 270,000 km later still running smoothly. Never had problems with American cars and much cheaper to buy brand new than foreign cars. Hmm went from expensive car in my youth to progressively getting cheaper and cheaper cars. The gambling gods have not been kind to me. LOL
