I wouldn't trade places with Kiffen for all the whiskey in Ireland....

Tennessee is going to SUCK royal ass this fall. They have zero talent at the skill positions on offense and this guy has already proven he's clueless with offensive X's and O's. They don't have an X's and O's guy on their staff to complement him, either. They'll have trouble getting to 10 points a game in the SEC. And when that defense is on the field all day long they'll wear out and get blown out - and nobody will take it easy on them.

What I don't get is he turned Tahj Boyd (5 star) away and then ended up not signing any qb's. That is two yrs in a row no qb recruited. Could take a few years to build quality depth back up.

the best part is when Spurrier said a while back Kiffin hadnt passed his exam , Kiffin responded with "i bet i scored higher than stevie" instead of reporting it to the SEC office like Meyer did in this case.

theres a lot of scared coaches in the SEC right now and Meyer comes out of all this looking like a woman - i love it!
Are you freakin serious, how long will Monte be there, as for UM I can't wait until they play, whatever the number the Gators cover! As for the SEC coaches being scared, what a joke. No matter how many punks Tennessee signs they are more than a few years away from winning the SEC and you only wish you had Spurrier, then, now anytime.

Breaking News: Lane Kiffin's Letter of Apology to Urban Meyer Leaked

<SCRIPT type=text/javascript> var fansnap_syndslot_clientId = "320532980-127719648"; </SCRIPT>Dear Urban,

It’s the Kiff here. My boss told me that I needed to apologize for calling you a cheater, so here's the best I can do: You are welcome.

C’mon. You have to be grateful for the tidal wave of compassion you’ve gotten. Not only do you return an insanely talented defense, but you also bring back the quarterback-cyborg that is Tim Tebow. Add to all that two National Championships and your prime location in the nation’s recruiting hotbed, and yet you’re coming off as the victim in this situation. Crazy huh?

Have you ever been to Tennessee besides when you play us? It’s not exactly flush with football talent. I’m plowing through scouting reports of Jim Bobs and Bubbas. Phil didn’t exactly leave me with a stocked fridge (and that metaphor extends both literally and figuratively in case you were wondering).
So of course I’m going to come out guns blazing. I’ve got to get us back on the map. I mean, you saw our QBs. Jonathan Crompton? Really? Peyton Manning isn’t exactly walking through the locker room door.

But admit it. You like it. You need it. Do you really want to be the guy who tries to throw down with Mark Richt? That’s like wrestling a Tibetan Monk.
<SCRIPT src="http://synd.fansnap.com/synd/js/search?clientId=320532980-127719648&num=3&page=1&_category=ncaa-football&_headliner=Florida Gators&_location=&q=&class=fansnap_syndslot"></SCRIPT><SCRIPT type=text/javascript>fansnap_syndslot_get_headliner();fansnap_syndslot_get_category();var fansnap_syndslot_instance = new fansnap_syndslot();var fansnap_script_include = new Element('script');fansnap_script_include.src = fansnap_syndslot_instance.server + '/synd/js/search?' + fansnap_syndslot_instance.params();$('fansnap-instance').insert(fansnap_script_include);</SCRIPT>

Face it, Urban, I’m the most refreshing thing since the Tim Tebow circumcision story broke last fall. The Florida Gators and this conference deserve a better class of antagonistic coaches, and I intend to be that guy.

Be honest: When Phil was the coach, did you really feel challenged? Did you feel validated as a coach for beating a guy who was more familiar with a post-game spread than a spread offense?

I mean, I guess it was nice to beat Grandpa Spurrier now that he has one foot in the tee box, but please don’t tell me that you feel a sense of accomplishment for beating the ghost of Gators past.
You and I both know that you were one more National Championship away from shoving Charlie Weis out of South Bend and fleeing the mullet-headed mouth-breathers filling up the Swamp. With me around, though, you’re having second thoughts. Think of the pride you’ll feel in tangling with my dad’s proven pro-style defense. Kind of overshadows feeling good about torching Hawaii and the Citadel's defense huh?

Sure, you have Nick Saban as a formidable opponent, but he’s out West, and you guys may tangle once a year if all the stars align and everything goes according to plan. I give you the guarantee of a royal rumble every year and early on.

I know I come off a little chirpy, but you’ve got to like that I’m not so eager to kow-tow to the wave of Olympic-caliber sprinters you’re rolling out. Whether you like it or not, you're the Yankees now. You're the man, the establishment. Florida is Cobra-Kai now. You're John Kreese, and Timmy T is Jonny Lawrence. I am Daniel-San, and my dad is Mr. Miyagi.
And you know what, Urban-Myth? You may try to sweep the leg, but I plan on crane-kicking you and Timmy right in the face.

But that's not all, Urbie. I’m coming into your backyard. I’m going after your recruits, and I swear to Pete Carroll that if we are bombing you by 40 and I have all of my timeouts with less than a minute left, I will call all three timeouts while Ed Orgeron power-bombs Albert the Gator and the entire team gets Kiffy with it in the end zone. I have never been more serious about anything in my life.

Anyways, I've got to run. Got a study session on SEC rules and regulations. Nu'Keese and Marsalis send their best.

Subversively yours,

The Kiff

Kiffy be writing his own regulations.
He don't need to study anything.

I don't sense any embarrassment anywhere around the clubhouse. (heh heh)

It's fun to watch.
I have to say I also get a little kick out of how Jim Harbaugh is with Pete Carroll out west.
New kid on the block takes on the HC of the conference champ. Very similar scenario.

L5Y, USC is 4-0 vs SEC, outscoring them 167-48!!!

Bring it on Lane! Fuck what eveyrone's sayin. That's that SC, "Win Forever / I'm In" attitude i'm talkin bout boy!

But it's also a staff that Lane Kiffin says unabashedly can offer recruits something that no other staff in America can match.
"You're getting Tampa's defense, and instead of waiting until you get to the NFL, you're going to get coached just like the best players in the NFL," he said. "And the offense is the same offense we ran when I was at Southern Cal, an offense that's been dynamic and has put a bunch of players in the NFL and gotten a number of players drafted higher than they would have been if they had gone somewhere else.
"We're going to put you in a position from a football standpoint that when you're done playing in three or four years that you'll be better prepared than you will if you had gone anywhere else in the country, and I'll argue that with anybody."
Sit back and enjoy, because one way or the other, this ought to be fun.

--> Kiffin’s Tennessee staff ripping off shirts for recruiting

8:14 am March 2, 2009, by Michael Carvell

Lane Kiffin is first-year coach at Tennessee (AP)

Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin and his staff made an unforgettable impression on some of the Southeast’s top college prospects on Saturday.
More than 100 high school players, including several of Georgia’s elite prospects, attended Tennessee’s Junior Day. Things started off rather routine. “It was just like your normal Junior Day, with coaches and other people from the college talking,” Brookstone tight end Brian Vogler said. “You could see heads bobbing, with eyes falling a little bit. But the second they split us up from the parents, it got so much more intense.”
The prospects were led to the film room, where Kiffin thanked the recruits for making the trip and considering the Volunteers. “Then this other coach [assistant] got up there and said that Tennessee takes special teams very seriously, that it’s a big key to winning,” recalled Northview defensive lineman Denzel McCoy, who has 31 early scholarship offers.
“That coach said they get real fired up on special teams and yelled for everybody to ‘Get up, get on your feet, and get fired up about special teams.’ Then this other coach ripped off his shirt Superman style. It was crazy.”
Many in the crowd weren’t sure how to react. “The coaches told us to stand up, but nobody really knew what to do. We started clapping, sort of like one of those ‘Ah, this feels awkward’ kind of things,” Volger said. “The coaches yelled ‘OK, we’re going to give you another shot. We’ve leaving the room. When we come back in here, we want it really to get crazy.’”
Denzel McCoy (AJC)

Douglass defensive lineman Garrison Smith said the lights in the room dimmed. “This one coach stayed behind and walked to the side of the room. Then he kept slamming the [side] doors, as if the other assistant coaches were trying to break it down. It was like an angry dog or some wild animals were on the other side.”
After a few moments, Smith said the doors swung open and the Tennessee assistants ran into the room. “By now, three or four coaches had their shirts ripped off.” Smith said around 10 Tennessee players, including All-America defensive back Eric Berry of Atlanta and quarterback Jonathan Crompton, ran down from behind the recruits to meet the coaches on the floor. “Eric and the rest of the players were chanting ‘U-T, wild boys … U-T, wild boys … U-T wild boys.’” This time, prospects left their seats and joined the celebration. “We were all jumping up and down together, it was cool,” McCoy said.
After things appeared to calm down, Tennessee recruiting coordinator Ed Orgeron gave a rousing pep talk, which caused the whole scene to repeat itself, only more intense. “The last time, everybody was hyped up and feeling it,” Loganville tailback Storm Johnson said. “People were jumping all over the place. It was rocking. You should’ve seen it. Even the podium got knocked over.”
All four of the players said they never saw Lane Kiffin lose his shirt. “He was on the side, just watching and smiling,” Vogler said.
Garrison Smith (AJC)

The action-packed introduction pleased the prospects, which each said they had never heard or seen anything like it before. “I talked to some of the Tennessee players afterwards, and they said they had never heard or seen anything like that before when they were recruits and visited colleges,” Vogler said with a laugh.
McCoy: “Personally, I liked it … It was kind of crazy, but it was cool. Coach Kiffin is trying to get everyone fired up about Tennessee football, and it worked. He had everyone in that room fired up.”
Smith: “I loved it, especially when that coach ripped off his shirt like The Incredible Hulk. It was high intensity. I enjoyed the whole day. They [Tennessee] definitely moved up on my list.”
Vogler: “It was awesome. I didn’t know how to react at first. I said to myself, ‘Oh my God, these people are crazy.’ Then after talking to them later in the day, I realized that’s just their style. That’s how they go.”

Damn Ducks where do you come up with this stuff. That is really funny and maybe a little off the wall but they are trying to connect with the kids. Can you imagine Bud Wilkinson or Knute Rockne doing something like that? My how the times change.

Chris,
I see that you didn't choose to site those sources. However, I do see that Tennessee has been fortunate enough to get an LOI from David Oku tonight.

Do your unnamed sources still believe that Bryce Brown will commit to Tennessee with Oku in attendance? If so I question their sanity.

That said congrats on Oku. Even though the kid seems like a head case he clearly has a ton of talent.

what do you want me to say ? bryce's mom told me ? i mean come on. its not fact yet obviously , and i did not state it as fact

but the answer is yes, the vols could have them both...maybe even get orson charles tomorrow

you remember kiffin signed bush/white in the same class right? that worked out pretty good for everyone

the truth is none of us know about brown for sure and probably wont until march 16th....i dont pass along all the rumors, there has been so much shit said. im still not totally convinced . id say im 75% confident on brown. one thing that makes me thik hard about it is that right after his visit to UT - USC backed off (maybe kiff called carroll?) and Miami supposedly pulled (maybe bryce called his brother?)

it is making Kiffin look like a genius keeping his name and the Big Orange in the media spotlight for the past couple months. imagine both in the same backfield how much they will be talked about this fall as true freshman. no way brown gets that much exposure from day 1 anyplace else. kiffin has set it up perfectly and i think you are smart enough to know it. now imagine if the vols beat florida - bryce brown will be a household name from the 2nd game of his career and watched every saturday nationally until he goes pro

<!-- entry -->College football: Urban Meyer addresses Lane Kiffin cheating accusations

It's been about a month since Tennessee Coach Lane Kiffin accused Florida Coach Urban Meyer of cheating during the recruiting of Pahokee wide receiver Nu'Keese Richardson, who eventually signed with Tennessee. As you probably remember, the Gators broke no rules, the SEC stepped in and Kiffin publicly apologized.
But Kiffin never apologized to Meyer, who addressed the issue for the first time to Sentinel reporter Andrew Carter. Carter covers the Seminoles in Tallahassee and caught Meyer during his appearance at the Governor's Mansion to celebrate the national title.
Here's how the back-and-forth went down. Meyer was a little evasive on the subject, but his tone gets the point across.
Sentinel: Not sure if you’ve publicly commented about the Lane Kiffin controversy – does that maybe seem a little silly or humorous now in hindsight:
Meyer: “I didn’t find it humorous.”
Sentinel: Not then, I’m sure, but perhaps now?
Meyer: “It’s not humorous. I can think of a few other words that I’m not going to say, but certainly not humorous.”
Sentinel: Have you talked to Kiffin, or has he reached out and apologized:
(Meyer shakes head no).

Sentinel: For the fans, though, that certainly adds a little spice to the rivalry
Meyer: “I’m not going to comment on it any more than I just did. I guess you could say that.”

if you have followed SEC football at all the past 20 yrs one thing is for sure ....the whole meyer/kiffin thing and how they handled it is exactly how it went down for years with fulmer/spurrier

grown men want to call it class vs no class. college football players call it confidence vs chickenshit

now, will it play out the same way on the field? we dont know. but i much prefer being on this end of the giving instead of always taking it and saying 'no comment' like fulmer did

deep down i think you all know kiffin was the PERFECT man for the job.

You don't seem to think LSU is a player in this....why not?

Also, I think you're going to be disappointed in Orson Charles....IF he signs with the Vols instead of FSU or Georgia. That guy is too slow to be a wide receiver and he's not big enough to play tight end. I watched him all season at Plant and he was a very good high school player, but that was because he had physically developed faster than the kids he played against. He does catch the ball with his hands well and he has a nice vertical, so he may be a receiver that can cross the middle with some success. But I think as other kids mature catch up to him physically, Orson will drop back to the rest of the pack.

Obviously Kiffin has brought the USC recruiting "playbook" with him to Tenn.
Let me clue you in on a little recruiting trick that USC uses all the time with a lot of success. They float a false rumor that a recruit is ready to commit in an effort to pressure another recruit to commit.

Sound familiar?

I'd say it isn't nearly as far fetched as your last two scenarios.

Yeah, but Meyer takes out his fustrations on those teams on the field. Foolmer never did. Tenn was get an absolute ass kickin this year. Worse than we beat you down in G-vill 2 years ago. This isn't really a rivalry anymore, we always win now.

I think Charles goes to Georgia, will know in a few hrs

no. dont sound familiar, havent seen this happen...yet

maybe it is this case- maybe sounds like wishful thinking from an Oregon fan

doesnt make any sense that Oku would sign quicker just cause he thinks Brown is going...its not like UT will now back off Brown
