carpenter is back this week...and will pitch against the cubs...

ankiel could be activated weds...

the cardinals 'healthy' rotation is the best in the division...

pretty impressive job by larussa without a 3B, closer, and ace starter...

with dewitt reducing payroll...

they will have plenty of room in july to add via a trade...

would not surprise me to see 'em be very aggressive adding a bat and another arm...

larussa will keep 'em there 'wire-to-wire'

Even with one of the MLB's best pitchers on the shelf...the Cardinals are still dominating. Hate to see what they could do with a decent bullpen and established closer!

......and with Lou Brock leading off.

I once witnessed a John Tudor vs Doc Gooden game at Busch in the middle of August in a battle for 1st place.............probably before Viking was even born.

Harden, Zambrano, Lily, Dempster, Marshall

imo...

the brewers starting pitching will prevent 'em from finishing this season like a 'quarter horse'...so i see 'em fading...

the cubs...

i do not like this cubs team at all...

jim hendry ruined the clubhouse when he traded derosa...

&

replaced him with bradley...handing that dh a 3 year deal...for a guy that played 20 or so games in the OF in '08...hillarious...

hendry could have signed either ibanez or abreu...and passed...horrible...

big mistake...

handing dempster that huge contract extension was ridiculous...4 years and 52 million...:):):):):):):):)

and the results have been predictable...he has stunk it up so far...circa '02-03 dempster form...:103631605

replacing wood with gregg...:):):ohno::):)

anyone watching 'rag arm' gregg's performance saturday...could easily see what i have said all along...

its alot different getting the last three outs in front of 40,000+ in the stands...

than the 8,000+ that gregg was used to...

gregg has a short sample size of saves...in which the 'stress' was not even close to what it is now.

miles is below average...

ramirez may be finished for the season...

if the cubs want to rush aram back...

then they are putting his career at risk...

he already has an unstable shoulder capsule...and his zone rating at 3rd base...easily shows that he dives more than the average third baseman...

aram should ask scott rolen how that kind of chronic injury can set a career back...

sure...maybe freel can play some 3rd...but none of this would be an issue with dero on this club...

long assed post here...but simply put...

i blame hendry's 'post-panic mode'...coupled with 'uncle lou's manic panic' for this horseshit roster.

Harden, Zambrano, Lily, Dempster, Marshall

harden 4.54 era
zambrano 4.50 era
lilly 3.27 era
dempster 4.65 era  4yrs and 52 million...hahahahahahhaha
marshall 4.02 era

lohse 4.25 era
waino 3.83 era
piniero 4.17 era
carpenter 0 era
wellemeyer 5.8 era

clearly better?

not with a healthy carpenter...

he deals vs the cubs this week...and if he can bunt the rest of the season w/out incident...

then the cardinals will have the better staff.

Dempster has given his team a chance to win every game he's pitched in. He's gone 6+ innings in all 9 of hit starts too. Not too worried about Dempster. .234 BAA...not bad. 5/8 have been on the road, he's better at home, all 3 of those wins. Road games have been against tough lineups. I think you'll see Dempster's final numbers as very good and not that much different than last year.

Bradley slow start will come around IMO.

What's Derosa hitting? However, Fontenot really floundering.

Season is very early, I don't see why Aram would be finished for season. Healing process is basically 8 to 12 weeks. I think he'll be back shortly after the AS Break.

Horseshit roster? You're nuts. Everything has gone wrong and they're still 21-15.

tell you what, boys. Admittedly I am a Brewer fan, so you can dismiss this if you want, but Milwaukee is for real. Yes, their pitching can be questioned, but Gallardo and Parra are young and will be the foundation of the staff for years (unless the Yankees, Mets, Red Sox or Cubs throw money at them). Suppan and Looper have been there and should eat innings, and Bush has been solid the past two years.
Hoffman is being used wisely, and Todd Coffey and DiFelice look like they are solid set-up guys.
The lineup is made up of guys that have played together for years in the minors. Good team chemistry, with Macha and Randolph guiding them. They are much more patient at the plate and even Kendall is starting to hit to go along with his great game calling.
They just brought up Mat Gamel, who should be another power source if they can find a spot to hide him in the field.
They should be in it til the end, and Hoffman might persuade his old buddy Peavy to join in by July. I like this team.

Brewers are definitely on the rise.

Tony Mar, the Cubs moves had a lot to do with the sale of the team. Couldn't take on any more payroll, and it really hampered them this offseason. This may be the last great run they have left.

But in fact they did take on a higher payroll this season. They took the money they saved on DeRosa and Marquis and gave to Bradley and Miles. It's early to say what their future payrolls will look like but I suspect it will remain consistent with what it is now and will continue to be higher than their division rivals.

out of harden , Zambo and Dempster, at least 2 of those 3 will finish with an era under 4.00......every Cardinal on that list will end up over 4.00 with the possible exception of Carpenter, IF he can stay healthy....Cubs pitchers started off slow and will round into form...Cards pitchers started out well to get those numbers, and THEY TOO will "round into form"....

there is NO COMPARISON in the 2 starting staffs.......

the only pitching problem for the cubs this year (barring major unforseen injuries which can hurt any team) is the bullpen situation

:think2:

fair warning...

i thought you were 'fairly' credible...

your post here is incorrect...

dero was due to make around 5mill this year...

hendry signed bradley for 3 years at 10 mill per...

hendry wanted dero's salary slot for bradley...

then he added to that slot...

there was no payroll reduction by the cubs.

okay...

we have a 100% disagreement here...

no debating a cement slipper...

i will take that wager...

i say wainwright beats you...

he will have an era under 4 this season...

how about a friendly 2 dime bet?

wainwright finishes with an era over 4...i ship you two thousand...

wainwright finishes with an era under 4...you ship me two thousand...

lets set it at a minimum of 140 innings logged for action...

in case he gets hurt...

lets do this bucs.:toast:

Wainwright hasn't had an ERA over 4 in his career barring a two game stint in 05. Bucs for someone who thinks they know bases you are way off thinking the Cubs staff is better. Wellemeyer has been awful to start the season but can't really say the other 4 are below any Cubs pitchers. Zambrano is injured now and will be again. Harden can't pitch a whole season. Cubs lineup is worse than the AAA lineup the Cards are sending out there with Ankiel, Ludwick, and Glaus all on the DL. That is nearly 300 rbi's from last season's team. Cubs may win the division but if they do I would be shocked if the Cards don't push them the whole season. If the Cards make a move to get a 3B this division will be over just like the Vikes said.

milton bradley is low class...

100% pure trash...

the laundry list is long...

but he topped it all off last season...

when he showed what kind of teammate he truly is...

the guy sat in the texas clubhouse until he was due up...

had no regard for his teammates...

he has infected the cubs...and i do not care if he hits .500 after july 1st...

i will still say the same thing...

bradley was a major mistake by hendry.
