Championship odds.
Warriors 4/5
Cavaliers 3/1
Spurs 8/1
Clippers 20/1
Celtics 20/1
Thunder 30/1
Raptors 40/1
Heat 50/1
Hawks 50/1

Sports books need to have the top 3 teams and then a field bet for the other 27 at about 100 to 1 and skip all the individual teams

The Spurs went into the KD derby knowing it was a longshot at best to acquire him. But they also viewed it as when you get a sit down with one of the best players of this generation, you take it and make your pitch. Also, all along the Spurs planned to go into FA focused mostly on KD and Pau Gasol. So forget all the doom-and-gloom stuff. We're talking about a team coming off a season in which they captured a franchise record for wins. Spurs will be just fine.

Like if Kobe made 60 million in his prime then it isn't going to be as easy for that team to have Pau, Bynum, Odom, Fisher, Ariza/Artest. So then Kobe isn't in the finals in 2009, in his place is the Mavericks and it is Mavs/Magic finals. If this happened for 3-4 years straight then the national TV $ would start to get messed with.

That is what happens when you build your league around stars rather than teams for 35 years.

yea I understand completely.
I guess legislating things fucks up more then just the government .

Kinda like the everyone own a home program.
The original idea was to max out contracts so small market teams could afford to keep players in house but it totally blew up in thier face and now we have this.

And you bring up a great point . This could hurt tv contracts in the future.

This league is way too top heavy.
Give me one good reason to buy Pelicans season tickets?
It can't be done.
Whats the point ?

why do people always whine about the nba being a league with few teams that have a shot to win.

the league has been like that forever and has only increased popularity and will continue to.

look at some of the top leagues in the world. you have maybe 2-4 teams in each league who have a legit shot.

exclude last season with leicester in the premier league which was a one year fluke, only a few teams have a chance and thats the top league in the world.

The NBA is turning into UCONN women's basketball.

Not KDs fault just the way it is.

I think the blame for all this is being unfairly placed on KD.
This is not a KD problem it's either an NBA or a basketball problem.

Oh I wasn't saying this will hurt TV contracts in the future (next TV deal not for 9yrs anyway), but I was saying if the top assets were properly priced then you have more parity and less stars in the conference finals and finals every year and that would hurt national TV revenue. Since parity would hurt the top teams then you would have teams with like 4 or 5 solid guys competing for titles. 10 teams might have a chance to win it all but Durant, LeBron teams could lose in the first round rather easily.

So a baseball style salary cap would probably be a revenue net negative for the league.

He is an expiring contract fwiw. 1yr 11mill left.

Just talent wise it would be a no brainer to take him but it is possible teams say screw it. Again, I'd be surprised if GS didn't cross those t's and dot those i's but we will see.

mavs want him. He has to go because they have to clear MAX space. You can't have 4 max deal players and the rest of your players not be getting pretty much minimum deals

Yes, I know this. I am saying it would be funny if they had trouble unloading him because the other teams wanted to give them a collective "F U".

However, I can't imagine that is the case. Would think they have their ducks in a row, but we'll see.

At the very least what will happen is a team will leverage a 1st rd'er or 2 out of GS because they know the ramifications of the trade. Squeeze them.

You would have to cut the league down to 15 teams or less to even begin to solve this problem but yea too many teams

Curry plays D . Jerry West was pivotal in this one cuz he convinced KD that titles is what is about. Dub Nation running strong!!!!

You don't remember Westbrook and Durant at their press conference being asked about Curry's defense and they both started laughing? Then how the NBA finals game 7 ends? With a timeout to get Curry on Kyrie and it was series over.

Curry gets credit for defense because Klay can play D, because Draymond can play D, and because Igudola, Livingston and Bogut all can play D. That is why in a team sense, yeah Curry can play D. But basketball is a lot of individual breakdowns during a game and that is where Curry gets exposed. Because if you have ever played competitive basketball, your eyes light up when you know someone can't cover you. That is what happens with every star in the league when they see Curry try to stick them. Which is why the Warriors tried to put Klay Thompson on Irving. They know deep down. You can say the shit to the press, but deep down they know he is a liability on defense and everyone in the NBA would say that except for the Warriors.

I like it like it was this past year. 3 or 4 really good teams with a legit chance to win.

One team being above the rest is something we've seen before with the MJ/Pippen/Rodman Bulls and Shaq/Kobe Lakers. I know those teams were challenged but it would've been a legitimate upset if they lost.

1 team being that superior is just kinda lame, I've seen it before.

But obviously I acknowledge no athlete should really care about what my entertainment tastes are and just make whatever decision he wants.

It's a free country, do what you want whether you are Durant, Lebron or whoever. It's your life and only you live it.

But that is a bitch move obviously. Going to the team that beat you that is already a top-tier team.

Smart move to stay with a team that he knows wont win it all?
