I do think the Reds have a good shot to get to Lackey today and would consider recommending the game over 9 and Reds TTO 3.5 but I must follow my own rules and not fade the Cubs.
This line closed at 5.5 -136 so there was a bunch of value and it ended up mattering as we got the push rather than a loss like the closing line after the Cubs failed to score in the last four innings after tagging Finnegan for 5 ER in 5 IP.
Tuesday 7/5: 0-0 +$0 PUSH
YTD Record: 34-27 -$1,876.54
I hope someone saw this and was able to cash in... There's no doubt I've left plenty of money on the table this year by not fading the Cubs but that's the price of loyalty and I'm willing to pay it for this special season.

These Cubs man...what happened to them?!?!
These Cubs man...what happened to them?!?!
They were bound to cool off and have a down period or two. They started out on absolute fire. Their pitching from top to bottom was untouchable the majority of the first half of the season. They'll be back and force to be reckoned with before all is said and done. It pains me to say that, but it's the truth. Way too much talent on this club to get beat up like they are now.

Breaking the stereotype of overemotional Cubs fans... I'm not in panic mode even though we now have a losing record over our last 56 games(!). I was chalking most of this up to the ebbs and flows of the 162 game baseball season but this lull has lasted a lot longer than it should have and there are a few issues that can be identified as contributors to the extended slump. YES - this team has weaknesses:
-Slumping SP: After pitching way above their heads early on the starting rotation has gone through some regression and the shorter starts has exacerbated the issues in the bullpen.
-Middle relief: The bridge from starter to end relief (Strop/Rondon) has been tough. And even our back two guys have struggled although Hector has blown several saves on ONE bad pitch which is pretty damn unlucky and I can't see that continuing. Theo will address this issue at the deadline and add to the bullpen.
-Offensive consistency: Too many times have we been held to a couple runs against inferior pitching. For some reason these young guys really like to slump at the same time.
-Injuries: Let's not forget we've had injuries to Schwarber, Soler, La Stella, Fowler, Heyward, Monteo, Ross and more... Fowler and Soler are getting closer to returning which should help the offense pick itself up.
-Situational hitting: The Cubs stats with RISP are BRUTAL during this stretch... we blink and they are already 0/7 with RISP again in what feels like every game. Luckily, I chalk most of this up to variance and don't believe this will continue. The clutch hits should start reappearing soon.
This is correct... as I mentioned above they have been going through some regression but most of the issues can be addressed or will work themselves out over time. The team you see on the field now won't be the team you'll see as we get late into the season. I'm not worried about any postseason implications at all at this point.
