It's just not a good analogy Chop, and here's why. In your analogy therx is DirectTV and each thread is a different channel. In my opinion the internet is DirectTV and theRX is just one channel. One of my favorite channels, and I was getting ready to change it because of the trash programming. And so would any sane noobie.

As a forum veteran you pretty much can read a thread title and pretty much know what you are getting into before even clicking the thread?

Like someone post a lock winner and the play loses and has 10 pages.

You know before even clicking on that thread what its going to be about.
Its going to be 50 people calling the OP names, then you are going to have 4 or 5 people defending the OP.
Then the OP is going to cry about people bashing his plays and F this and F that despite the fact that the OP is probably an attention whore that deserves the name calling.

Then you have a thread about racism.
You know good and well thats going to be heated before even clicking.

There are a few exceptions.
Sometimes an innocent thread can go haywire and these are the times where the mods need to step in and restore order.

There is a way to keep the ship tight without sending all its traffic to the RR to die.

The is a balance.

You don't want to be PEEPS place but you don't want to go to the other extreme either.

Yes...there are subjects that a lot of people should avoid but I understand if you feel passionate about something and want to voice an opinion.

Its simple to me to avoid something I see but others get sucked in. All good. Its what mods are here for...get things back on track if need be.

If the attitude you speak of spilled over into all the threads I would agree.
But this is not the case.

Let me put it this way.

If you turned the TV onto the Disney channel and you saw to women eating each other out this would be a problem.
If your kid was watching spongebob square pants and then a commercial comes on for Trojan Condoms instead of Captain Crunch this would be a problem.

But all the stuff I am speaking of is compartmentalized to where if you don't want to see that stuff it can be easily avoided.

I mean your right but its like PI in the NFL. You try to let it go and let the DBs play and eventually everyone is out there holding everyone and you gotta clean it up or its just awful.

Haha, I started posting in here to get away from the Poly Forum. It is pathetic down there. And just two days away the Walkers started following me. Sheriff Joe, Acebb, Willie, rarely ever post here... now they reply to every post I make. I like it much more up here because there are more opinions. The Poly Forum is dead. You basically have 5 Walkers there just waiting to suck the fun and life out of anyone who makes a post.

I stuck to a few threads. The thing I still don't understand is over 90% of the threads did not involve me or any arguing, yet everyone acts as if every thread has been taken over. The arguments over Sterling are entertaining and they brought far more views and posters than most of these threads. Some people like controversy. If you don't like five guys telling each other that they are fucking idiots than there are so many other threads to read. I agree if they started infiltrating most of the threads, but that is not even close to the case. I honestly think people are just upset they were so drawn in to those threads and they couldn't help it. Like watching a car accident. Just entertaining. Not sure what the purpose of moving it is. Now it's stuck in the Poly forum where Sheriff Joe will destroy it.

I'm with Defying on this one, and I'm not a person that espouses banning. We're here to interact, but there as to be some guidelines. The first two threads that were started about the Sterling matter were not intended to be political, but moved there in large part because somebody wanted to prove to the world I'm racist, a classic Ad Hominem approach.

It digressed from there, and they became mostly about childish banter that I don't believe serves the forum well. One person in particular personally attacked every poster that disagreed with him in either thread about any tangent he tried to create.

There actually should be repercussions for making vile inaccurate person attacks with a house of cards. Posters should be held to some minimum standard of decorum.

I can and do get into the gutter with the best of them, but I'm responding to others accordingly. I treat disrespect with mocking disrespect. I prefer respectable discourse, but there are forum members not capable of such and they show their true colors time and time and time again.

As for banning, I have flagged two posts in my 8.5 years here

1) a tout trying to sell his services in the NBA forum who wasn't caught yet
2) an inappropriate over the top racial tirade from a poster who's name I don't recall going off on black QB's (I think he just lost a bet on one)

we can't have a lawless society

and I don't think the threads Defying is citing help bring traffic to theRX, so I disagree with my man Chop

Going through the Threads, the fighting became a Poli Forum War, and that's why we usually don't allow that many of those type of Threads up here in the Offshore Forum. ( religion, politics, etc )

The guy would have a three-way conversation with his mods and hatch a plan to say a particular poster owed his bookie 75K. He would just make it up for the sole purpose of drumming up views and conversation on his main page.
