As far as learning the technical terms, investopedia is good. Take a look at the drop-down menus on their front page such as Dictionary, Articles, Tutorial, etc.

Even wikipedia has some good articles.

It's a lot to learn. Maybe I'll put together a list of the most common terms and acronyms that a beginner should know.

Cut and paste this link:

Tech stocks have been particularly strong during the last 4 weeks of this rally, and they will be the first to be abandoned, especially if the dollar shows any weakness during the upcoming retreat.

Nice job Oilcan, that is the name of the game, get in low. I almost added to my FAZ position on Friday afternoon when it was below $9 but held off, I am up to my neck in FAZ and wanted it to show me something before adding. Hopefully this is the beginning of a nice run up. I hit the "crackpipe" hard this morning, adding positions in SRS, SDS, and DXD to go with my FAZ. This will either end very well or I will get crushed. Charts indicated that this was due, hopefully the Fed/Treasury lets this play out.

Nice plays guys.

Yeah OIL, I'm concerned about holding overnight as well. I figure I'll just hold on and ride the wave.

R.i.p. Faz

I am ready to capitulate on this POS. It is dead and is never coming back. Up well over 30% yesterday, down 21% today (back to where it was yesterday.) Decay has killed this. A week or two ago this crossed paths with FAS at around 9.50ish, than crossed again around 9.15ish, now looking like next cross will be around 8.50ish. We will see what it does tomorrow, but I am prepared to take my medicine.

Don't sell it just yet. COF just took a huge dump in AH after their earnings release. Remember what has been working in this bear market. They are buying the rumor (in anticipation of good reports while covering shorts) and selling the news (outright selling and shorting when the report comes out). Most of the financials (big boys at least) have already reported, with WFC and MS on deck tomorrow (reason for today's runup in financials). They will sell the shit out of the financials tomorrow I bet and even if they don't, it won't be long from now until FAZ roars! No guts, no glory. The big catalyst (for FAS, UYG, XLF) are now gone. Just be patient ..... our time will come very soon! Sell in may and go away will NEVER ring more true than this year! The people I trust are still projecting around Dow 5k as the ultimate bottom. :toast:

I agree, just venting. Still can't believe that I allowed myself to get into this spot. I have always been very disciplined, just got caught chasing this thing down. I believe that the downtrend started yesterday and will continue down into the abyss, just need to remind myself that nothing goes straight up or down. I have rode this damn thing down from 42, what is another 9 bucks, right? I am averaged in at $26 pps. Thanks for the info.:toast:

DesertNole, if it's any consolation I was right there with you. I had to finally sell and only make short-time investments (for now). It's very hard for me, and a lot of other people, to let go of a losing investment. It gives me the idea that I have failed (which I have). However, we shouldn't let that stop us from letting go.

We talk ourselves into thinking "this will turn around any time now, it has had resistance at 40 for multiple times. It can't go much lower and I will average above water when it turns." There comes a time when we must say that we have lost enough and it's time to step back. I'm not saying that time is now. Only you can make that decision and it should be based upon sound research.

I was thinking that FAZ was really going to take off this week with the earnings coming. I waited from 9.80 to 10.99 yesterday to buy just to make sure it would still go up. Then we hit today and it sinks lower. At least I made a quick $1,000 by putting a stop in before it went below 10.99.

Good luck on your decisions.

Notice that even though decay has taken place you can still get a good return on your investment:

fas

FAS almost quadrupled in one month.
