Italy vs. Spain
under 16 FIBA
Friday (August 22, 2014)
over 123.5

Italy is 2-0 and allowed just 41 and 27 points. They did score 66 and 85. Now they face Spain who were upset by Russia. The two Spain games have reached 127 and 143. Spain has taken 77 and 78 shots so far and was just 3/27 from outside the arc vs. Russia. These two played back in 2012 (different players but same system) and it ended with 136 points scored. Hopefully, Spain can score some points vs. the Italy defense and we get a game in the mid-120's. This total is available at 3:07am EDT on Friday morning. GL!

Nice. Line was 129.5 for me this morning, so I decided to pass. Very pleased with that decision as the middle I would have been exposed to hit. Happy that you got the win, Dr. T!

The game ends 71-53 (124 points).

comments:

Should've posted Italy -3.5 but it seemed to easy.

I really liked Lithuania over Finland as both were 0-2 and Lithuania was one of the favorites and needed a win. I hoped to see -9.5 but the line was -12.5 and Lithuania won by 25.

Macedonia/Israel
under 16 Europe
Saturday
over 133.5

Both played low scores with weak Norway (117 and 118) but played high totals in other games. Macedonia reached 158 with Slovenia and Israel made it to 149 with Georgia. I won't be shocked to see an under with kids this age but there should be an opportunity to come close to 140 points and get over. This total is available at 3:04am EDT on Satuday. GL!

Amazing call yet again... Israel hit the century mark by themselves!

Israel wins 100-60 (160 points).

Varkeyboy, this game started at 12:45pm eastern. Some books didn't carry the Division B (under 16 FIBA Europe). The line opened at 133.5 but dropped to 132.5 and 133 at the books I saw.

On Sunday, Division A plays again and there are some 2015 European Qulaifers.

Any play on the Arena Bowl tonight? I know you've bet on games involving each team thus far in these playoffs.

It's hard to go against the home team getting +4.5 or more. I saw they were +5.5 earlier. Cleveland has lost just once and that was at Pittsburgh. The home teams have won all the playoff games so far and Cleveland is at home. They are calling this "Destiny vs. Dynasty" as Arizona has won the last two Arena Bowls and have an outstanding QB (Nick Davila) that is hard to go against. Arizona has lost their last three road games but were resting key players. Cleveland QB Shane Austin has done well this year and they have found a way to win. Small play on Cleveland at +4.5 or more and hope to see a 61-60 type of game.

The Arena Bowl ends up like the Super Bowl. I think the two week delay hurt Cleveland and feeling the pressure of the city not winning titles.

Japan vs. Kuwait
FIBA Asia under 18
Kuwait +24.5

Japan is into the quarterfinals in a few days and off a one point win over Kazahstan and a 7 point loss to Iran. This game means nothing in the standings. Their other games include a 19 point win vs. Iraq and a 25 point win vs. Hong Kong (Iraq and HK are similar to Kuwait). The also lost by 9 to Chinese Taipei. Kuwait did lose by over 80 to Iran but other losses were by 29 to Chinese Taipei, by 10 to Kazahstan and by 8 to Hong Kong. Kuwait depends on Hasan for points and rebounds. Others like Maitwali and Almutari are good enough to run up and down the court in a reasonable manner. Japan could win by 30 or so but I think we have a decent chance to see Kuwait stay within 18 to 23 points. GL!

Scotland vs. Belgium
Sunday (August 24, 2014)
FIBA under 16 Europe (Division B)
Scotland +39

Belgium is off a 4 point win vs. England. This is the last game before the next rounds on Tuesday. Scotland lost their first game to England by 43 but other losses were to Romania by 9, Estonia by 19 and they beat Luxemborg by 9 (as all 5 starters had 9 or more). Scotland has the #4 scorer in Division B and two others who are in double figures:

Jackson 14.8
Sirrell 11.8
Lancaster 11.7

Dowling, Jiminez and Nealon can score as well for the underdogs.

Belgium beat Luxumborg by 38, Romania by 22 and Estonia by 17.

I think Belgium wins easily but not by more than 35 so take the points. GL!

Tough loss as Scotland was outscored 28-7 in the 4th and two points were for an unsportsman call. Jackson was the only Scotland player who did well. Sirrell had just 2 points and others failed to score. Final score was 86-45.

USA vs. Finland Preview and Prediction

The basketball version of the World Cup begins Saturday, August 30, 2014. The tournament takes place in different venues in Spain. The USA opens with Finland and here is a preview and prediction for the game.

The USA is led by Coach K and will be without the services of Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Kevin Durant, Kevin Love, Russell Westbrook, Tyson Chandler, Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony and Deron Williams who led the team to the gold medal back in 2012. Here is the roster that has been downsized to 12 players:

USA

C DeMarcus Cousins, Sacramento Kings
C Andre Drummond, Detroit Pistons
C Mason Plumlee, Brooklyn Nets
F/C Anthony Davis, New Orleans Pelicans
F Kenneth Faried, Denver Nuggets
F Rudy Gay, Sacramento Kings
G/F DeMar DeRozan, Toronto Raptors
G James Harden, Houston Rockets
G Klay Thompson, Golden State Warriors
G Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors
G Kyrie Irving, Cleveland Cavaliers
G Derrick Rose, Chicago Bulls

The USA will play an exhibition game on August 26 against Slovenia in Gran Canaria before traveling to Barakaldo to face Finland on Saturday. Here are the USA exhibitons that include wins by 17, 43 and 26 points. The team is young and doesn't have much experience in international basketball.

Beat Brazil 95-78 in Chicago
Beat Dominican Republic 105-63 in NYC
Beat Puerto Rico 112-86 in NYC

Here is Finland's roster. Gerald Lee played at Old Dominion University and Erik Murphy played at Florida and is now on the Cleveland Cavaliers roster.

Shawn Huff
Mikko Koivisto
Petteri Koponen
Tuukka Kotti
Gerald Lee
Antero Lehto
Erik Murphy
Kimmo Muurinen
Hanno Möttölä
Matti Nuutinen
Teemu Rannikko
Sasu Salin

Finland has played a few exhibiton games:

Lost to Germany by 7
Lost to Lithuania by 9
Lost to Australia by 5
Lost to Lithuania by 17
Beat Australia by 6
Lost to Australia by 23
Lost to France by 5

In the opener, I expect the USA to jump ahead early and play all 12 players. Since they have to play again on Sunday, I don't think the Americans will focus on blowing out Finland. The underdogs have played France, Lithuania and Australia so they have played some decent teams in preparation for the World Cup. USA plays a fast game and plays better defense than most teams. I expect the USA to win by 30 to 35 points so I like Finland getting a ton of points. Finland +39 is my pick.

Norway vs. Scotland
under 16 Europe (Division B)
over 125

Scotland has played 4 of their 5 games over this total. Their games with teams (Luxumborg/Romania) that are close to their skill level ended with 145 points. Lancaster and Dowling were able to score close to 10 points vs. these teams. Both teams allowed 78.5 ppg so there was not much defense. Scotland allowed 94, 67, 67, 77 and 86 while Norway allowed 77, 77, 82 and 111(to Georgia). Both have just one win and Norway just beat Luxumborg and took 76 shots (they average close to 70 per game but only shoot 25%).

Norway's top four have averages of 7, 7, 6 and 6 ppg which is hard to believe but they will get opportunities to score on Wednesday. Scotland has Jackson, Sirrell to go with Lancaster and Dowling.

A score of 58-56 won't surprise me but these two get a chance to win another game and score points in doing so.
