73 years old & i do not want to depart yet as i have a few health issues that has slowed me down a bit, but i have made a big adjustment in my diet, lowering my BP down to 122/62 & also lowering my glucose count from something like 128 down to around 90 or so. I did this by quitting drinking regular soda pop like pepsi or coke & cut way back on fast foods & just watched my sugar intake. The end result was the best visit i have ever had with my cardiologist, after losing 15-20 pounds to down around 175 or 180 or so. I lost my wife 6/17/2011 in a housefire,[hot ashtray was emptied of CIGARETTES] she was only 57 when the good lord took her, it has made me think about life quite differently than what i used to. I still work part time around 30 hours a week as a consultant/buyer for a pre-owned auto dealer, most of what i do is on the computer, but it keeps me active & around much younger people. Yes you slow down as you get to be my age, but try to eat healthy, stay active & think young, as i listen to music on the radio & smart phone from the 70's, i live alone in a 7 room townhouse & the first thing i do when i enter my home is to turn on my stereo radio to a station that play's the 70's music, & i actually take my smart phone to the bathroom & listen to iheart radio as they play music from the 70's, as the first thing i do is take a shower when i get home from work around 6:00pm. The only thing i can add is to live today & don't worry about tomorrow, as you only live one life & there are no replays, god bless & gl.

I have the exact same issue. If its an actual phobia with a name, I'm the poster boy. I'm 38 and i'm in great shape. I constantly dwell on the inevitable though. I just can't come to terms with the fact that I'm an old dude now. I see good looking girls in bars and they say "yes sir" and shit like that to me.

I think my issues have a lot to do with "not sewing all my oats" when i was supposed to. I had to work hard when my peers were all partying. I thought it would make me more of a man, but perhaps its made me more of a head case.

Good Luck man but rest assured that you are not alone with your fear.

Damn buddy, I think you just nailed it. I grew up dirt poor and had to work to help out at home. Spent a lot of my youth working when people that age were partying and goofing around. I mean I hooked up with a lot of fine chics in my life. Most of them within the past few years. I know a lot of guys probably wouldn't even have had that but I still feel like I could have hooked up even more. Not just that but just basically living a carefree life and have some fun, travel.

I mean I guess I can make up for lost time now. I'm still young enough and look great. Maybe that's what I will do.

Again, I think you just nailed it. Felt like I grew up too fast. Times were tough, real tough. Now when I should be living it up I just dwell on the past. Time to go out and have some fun. Starting with my first trip ever to Vegas.

This is going to be me SUMMER OF JAGUARA.

99% of us would turn back the clock if we could....like to think that the older you get, the wiser you become....

I'm just happy that after 61 years, everything still works....and after 61 years of life, I suscribe to the Readers Digest advice of "Laughter is the best medicine".....and I don't mind laughing at myself at times...

Great news because I want you to be laughing when I collect my Tiger bet from you ! It shouldn't be too much longer now !:103631605

I wonder if it's a phobia. I'm in my late 20's. The idea of getting old scares the crap out of me. I think about it often.

I'm just wondering what it feels like when you are 40. How bout 50? And in your 60's? Is it like constant pain and sickness and aching or does that not come till in your 60's or 70's?

I take very good care of myself, eat right and exercise. Hopefully that helps but it's still inevitable isn't it?

I guess nobody here can help my fear of getting old so I'll settle for some responses on how it feels like when you're in your 40's, 50', 60's. What is the mind and especially the body like.

You should use that fear of growing old as motivation to live it up now while you still can. Just party, travel, go places and have fun and when your old you will have no regrets. I think having regrets is worse than growing old. http://search.mywebsearch.com/myweb...t=RR&searchfor=Define Privilege&tpr=jrel1&id=

Interesting read.

I'll be 42 in August. I dreaded turning 40...and had no problem turning 30.

I think I'm similar to CoachLT in that I act like a child most of the time. Enjoying what you do and are doing is very important.

W/ my current job (military officer), I have to behave and act professional...I don't think I could have done it in my younger years (but I was a full-time firefighter back then - which is a license to behave like a child your entire life!).

Anyhow, I run a lot - usually - 40 to 60 miles a week (give or take). I consider myself to be in pretty good shape. The last two times I took the physical exam (given by the fire department) I had the top score on the cardio-vascular stress test among all of the firefighters AND police officers in the city (somewhere around 3,000 people). I was in my late 30's the last time I took the test (37 I think).

I ran a marathon (26.2 miles) in 2 hour 58 minutes in late 2010, which is an average of 6:49 per mile. I've run 14 marathons in my life and that was the fastest...after turning 40. I'm shooting for 2:55 this fall.

I have aches and pains occasionally, but nothing unusual. I do worry about having a heart attack (I've seen a ton of them from my paramedic/firefighter years) and I've had friends have them (who lived and died).

Time waits for no man! We are all getting older....just make sure you take care of yourself.

Like Betal & VD said...try to live stress free. It's hard to do sometimes, but try not to sweat small things.

Been hearing alot of commercials on the radio lately about testostrone treatments. Claims to help you lose body fat, increase labido and feel young.

Has anyone tried it?

Was walking down the Walmart isle last weekend and saw the shit in a pill. The commercial on the radio I think requires you going in and getting the pharmaceutical top grade injection shot.

Anyone care to comment?

Don't be afraid of pain in old age. You can always fly to the Netherlands for a fix
or go parachuting & forget (especially with Alzheimers) to pull the string.

Don't be afraid of death. It's only the beginning of an endless love affair.

Fear & stress won't do anything for you, so cast them off.

Ugh I'll be 34 next week, cant believe it. I feel great though, can run just as fast as I always have (or so i think!) I saw someone mentioned tennis earlier in this thread. I teach tennis and am a competitive player.. when I play those young guys in their early 20's I can definatly tell a difference. They can get to just about any ball.. don't think I could even do that when i was their age although speed was never my strong suit. At this age I still feel like I have my youth but I can tell it is starting to slip away.. damn!
